We have been going here for years with a variety of dogs and their needs. Dr Carolynn Hamm has been absolutely outstanding with the care of our Rottweiler and mixed breed dog. We recently had a procedure done that warranted special care; Dr Carolynn along with Certified Vet Tech Jerry looked after our Rotty with exceptional care, compassion and understanding. I could not be more thankful for them and the entire staff at Pewaukee Vet. This is a common experience with other Veterinarians and support staff at this clinic and I would not trust my dogs to anyone else. Thank you all so very much!
Have been using this vet ever since I moved to the Pewaukee/Waukesha area and couldn't be more pleased. They have always had a very friendly and helpful staff and the doctors are very helpful and knowledgeable. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because in the past few years the prices have seemed to of gone up quite a bit compared to when we first started coming, but we do continue to come due to the outstanding service.
My Great Pyrenees, Maya, almost died due what we think was a blood clot. The flesh on her leg became necrotic and the flesh kept dying. The ER vet believed she would die.
But .... God provided the most incredible team of people to heal and love my dog through it.
The staff here go beyond what could reasonably be expected. They actually care deeply for the animals entrusted to their care.
Dr Nick, thank you for not giving up on my girl. All the staff helped with her being able to go home and I'm so grateful.

My dog and I love this clinic. In the years I've gone there, I've had to wait for an available room a few times, but a clinic that is that busy must be doing something right to keep the clients coming! I feel like they have everything in one place- boarding (and she can get a haircut while there too!), dental cleanings, a holistic doctor, etc. It's worth the drive!

Pewaukee Veterinary Service is far too busy for our liking. We waited about 50 minutes PAST our scheduled appointment , and 55 after we had arrived, before our pet was seen. After 30 minutes in the waiting room, we were taken to an exam room and waited another twenty minutes. I had to let our puppy chew on a rubber key chain b/c he was getting so restless. When the vet tech finally came in all that was said was, ""sorry we're a little backed up."" The lobby was empty when we got there, and when we left there was one person at the desk and again the waiting room was empty, yet they were too busy to see us at the scheduled time or let us know if there were an emergency and there'd be a bit of time before we were seen. Other vets have given us the option to reschedule when that situation has arisen. Our time was of no concern.
Then when he had a reaction to his vaccines I was put on hold for ten minutes and had to hang up and call back to be able to speak with someone. I was told to bring him back in because of his size. Had he been a larger dog they said he would have been ok vomiting once. They were prompt with seeing him when we got there, and very concerened once we were in the exam room, though they seemed confused. He was given a shot of benedryl and what I was told was 'asprin for dogs.' I was told we were not being charged for an office visit, but for the medications. I called today to discuss the bill, and was told the only thing they could take off was the office visit. We were told we were not being charged for that.
Every othere office we have talked with said they do not charge for those medications when it is needed due to an allergic reaction. My sister's dog had a more severe reaction and her veterinary office did not charge anything when we had to take him back in.
We discussed it and decided this office, though the waiting room had always been empty when we were there, they were too busy to see us on time. The billing just reaffirmed our decision. They are friendly, and I am sure the doctors are very capable and kind, however when I hear from multiple friends and offices that in the situation we had, it would have been handled differently I am certain we made the right decision to switch to a more personable office.
Brought my (then) 1 yr old border collie in because she was moving slowly, wasn't running, and was huffing a lot. After a workup including X-rays, it was determined she had a back issue. I got several options, including surgery, physical therapy, acupuncture, and medications. I was given benefits and drawbacks of each. I chose PT and acupuncture. It worked great. My dog is now five, with full mobility, and shows no signs of distress with her previous injury.
I haven't found anyone else in the area that offers this range of services. I received a CD of her X-rays for my own records, as well as an online records access and online scheduling. With multiple doctors, you can choose the treatment optiosn you want. They have the equipment that they do not need to out-source much of anything. Their late evening hours are very helpful. Now that I've moved from Pewaukee to St Francis, I could go to any number of vets nearby.
I'll go the extra distance for PVS.
I have been with this clinic for 10 years and thru 4 dogs. Referred there when the last vet couldn't figure out problem and PVS had the equipment. He had cancer, the vet transfused his own dogs blood to get our dog thru surgery. He bought us 3 months. The care and empathy was outstanding! Our second dog had problems after hours - called vet at home, monitored and advised him 1 hr later I was going to emerg clinic. 20 minutes and one xray later, my vet was standing with the staff to tell me they had to do surgery to save my dog's life and he was scrubbing in to help. Wow beyond what I would have expected! Their expertise, all staff are caring, is why I send all my friends and coworkers there. Beyond care anywhere else! would HIGHLY recommend their skills are way above the rest!
PVS is by far the best veterinary clinic in the area. As a loyal customer since the early 1980's, I would never think of going anywhere else. Dr. Jeff Schuett has been my K-9's primary physician and has provided nothing but stellar service over the years. Thanks to their thorough yearly checks, my current K-9's anaplasmosis was detected, treated and monitored. PVS' staff is friendly and well trained. Follow up communication after diagnosis has always been prompt and they even call to see how she's doing! Wish my own doctor did that! They keep abreast of the latest technology and offer services that are beyond compare. All said, PVS offers doctors that are leading the curve on the latest technology, employ more than competent staff and have really good treats... my dog wanted me to add that!
New to this online review thing. We never do this but wanted to share our recent experience & how much we appreciate all PVS does for us and our pets over the years. We have alot of pets and all have been there one time or another to see the docs - if it isn't due to our lab eating our kids toys then our cat needs stitches. It's always something. The staff was wonderful when we called in a panic recently about our golden - got us in right away even though they had no appointments available. Ended up she needed surgery which they did the same day and their staff helped us every step of the way until she could go home. They even called to follow-up how she was doing & if we had any questions. She's fine now and no worse for wear (no more jumping off our deck for a while) - we have many friends we referred and now go to them. They really do care-great group of people. We'll be back for annual exams next month!

Had gotten quote to do dental work on our cat. Two days before, the appointment, they call and give us another quote 40% higher than a quote, already competative with other locations. Said ""we are just trying to be honest"". Really?!?!?! Honesty is giving a quote and then increasing it right before you come in!?!? NO - honesty is honoring the quote they provided.at the time of consult. After reading other reviews here and other locations, I am glad we are cancelling and going elsewhere. LOUSY way to run a business. Staff less than impressive

I've been bringing my pets to PVS for over 12 years. We have seen multiple vets at PVS over the years and all but one has been totally awesome with my babies. One benefit of PVS is that if you like a vet that is conservative and cautious, you will find them here. If you prefer a vet that is up on the latest treatments and experimental medicine, you will find them here. If you want a vet that prescribes natural remedies, you will find them here. Their hydrotherapy, accupuncture, and massage therapy programs are awesome. There are few places that offer as many services as PVS. And the staff is fabulous. They never make you feel like your inconveniencing them and they will go out of their way to accomodate you. My babies are extremely important to me and I would not trust anyone else with their care.

This is a new nice-looking facility, BUT DO NOT BE FOOLED. My dog died (2010) due to an over-confident and inept vet who did not take my dogs condition seriously enough to take the necessary precautions before surgery. My dog was also not monitored closely post- surgery; internal bleeding was not discovered until it was too late to do anything about it. All I can do is tell my story and try to prevent someone else from experiencing this awful heartbreak. This absolutely should not have happened. This was a young dog. I regret ever walking through their door. I would give them a NO STAR rating if I could, but it's required to post. My pet's life was not valued by this vet, he not only showed no compassion, he showed complete indifference to a dying dog and couldn't get the dog and us out of his facility fast enough. HUGE THUMBS DOWN for Pewaukee Veterinary Service!

My healthy 8 year old 35 lb. bulldog died after getting vaccinated by a doctor at PVS in 2005. 2 days later she couldn't hold her head upright. She defecated in her sleep. She was dead within 10 days and a necropsy performed at UW-Madison Veterinary Hospitals showed she died of an autoimmune reaction. The lining around her brain was swollen, as were her tonsils.
A newer PVS doctor (my current vet there had relocateed) talked my husband into allowing her to be vaccinated with several vaccines including bordetella even though she was never boarded and for years she'd been getting limited vaccination for rabies only. Bulldogs are notoriously sensitive to meds. Two days after vaccination (for rabies, distemper, bordatella and lepto, I believe) I called PVS and explained her symptoms. I was told was probably having an allergic reaction and I should give her benadryl. She got worse and died several days later. I called PVS several times during that week she was ill but once she died they denied that I ever called and hadn't recorded my concerns in her chart. I had phone records of several calls for several minutes each. PVS said I could try to sue the maker of the vaccines if I wanted.
Now I have two 5-year-old bulldogs. My currrent vet, a bulldog specialist in Woodstock IL, said after hearing my story that she could have been saved with a shot that can reverse the effects of the vaccine reaction. He's seen this before in his long veterinary career esp. in bulldogs and other health-fragile breeds.
I trusted PVS but they were building a new hospital at that time and all they care about is money! PVS is arrogant, overpriced, and certainly won't admit fault when they hurt or kill your beloved pet, because in the end ""she's just property"".

Being new in the area,we were looking for a vet close to home and professional. When my wife told me what they wanted to do andinsisted on doing we got a $230.00 bill for 1 visit,2 unneeded tests run,2 heartworm pills and some ear solution.I called my vet back home who stated that his cost would have been $150.00 and those tests were most likely unnecessary.I will obviously not go back and will never recommend such a place to do business with.
