BEWARE! Listed below are the grievances we have filed with the Better Business Bureau for Schoen Builders. We would like to have our home fixed, the mold remediated and all out of pocket expenses reimbursed –OR– a full refund issued by Schoen Builders and they can then take ownership of the house and mess they’ve left us with.1. Schoen Builders does not honor their warranty. Our house had a one year warranty and Schoen Builders has not repaired the issues and damages we’ve had with the house. 2. Our home has mold on every level within the subfloors and joists due to substandard building and lack of construction project management by Schoen Builders. Our family is living in a health hazard and we cannot sell the home as is. Schoen Builders has been asked to remedy the situation and they have not. 3. All hardwood floors in our home are buckling, cupping and splitting due to the excess amount of moisture in the subfloor which was absorbed by the hardwood flooring. 4. There are structural issues throughout our entire house. Water leaks from a second story deck and into the office below, down the wall and into the floor when the snow melts. The garage ceiling leaks from the shower above. We cannot use our lower basement because the air quality is “unacceptable” per the mold testing and reports. There is exposed mold growing on all exposed joists in the basement. As a result of structural issues, there are secondary issues such as carpenter ants as a result of water leaks in the home and numerous mice which entered through vents that were not fully sealed by the exterior stone mason. 5. The cost of the bid given to build our home was misleading and inaccurate. Schoen gave us a low building bid to entice our business. Once the contract was signed and the building process began, we realized everything quoted was the cheapest materials possible and some items weren’t even possible for the price bid. 6. Schoen Builders did not build our home within the timeframe stated per contract. 7. We were charged erroneous charges that we did not approve.8. We were lied to about issues we experienced. For example, after we moved into our house we discovered we had low water pressure in the master shower, to the extent that the specialty fixtures (shower jets, etc,) we had purchased did not work. We were told that it was because other people on the street were taking a shower at that time and also that it was the most water pressure the city allowed. We had our water pressure tested and discovered we had excellent water pressure, but Schoen Builder’s plumber had failed to adequately plumb our house based upon the square footage and the distance the water had to travel. Schoen told us it was “fine” and refused to fix it. We were forced to hire a plumber to redo the water lines and pay the cost out of pocket. Once the lines were plumbed by an independent, professional plumber the water fixtures worked fine. 9. Once Schoen Builders was paid in full they did not return to finish our punch list or address any of the issues that later arose10. Defamation of Character. We learned after the build about comments the builder made about us to suppliers and contractors, which were lies and also crude. During the build he had made negative comments to us about our neighbors on our street, which were previous clients of his, and we found all of this to be unprofessional and immature.
