I used to get a yearly service call for airconditioning in my last house in south Texas. In 1.5 hrs the system would be evaluated for freon pressures (high and low side), they would check the inside and outside controls, cooling capability, and the outside system would be cleaned up so the cooling fins were clear. All of this would be done for about $300.00.

For this terrible service call, the only problem was worn out bearings in the fan outside. The fan needed to be replaced. They arrived at 1 pm (an hour after they said they would be there in a few minutes) and left after 4 pm, and charged almost $700.00. The first thing the technician did when arriving was to take a personal call about his divorce ... all the while he was charging us. He went up on the roof and continued his personal call while sitting down beside the airconditioning unit. 30 min later he had not done any work at all. The original estimate of work by this man's supervisor was 30 minutes. I planned this into whether we would accept the services. I would have chosen a different company if I knew the work would be done so slowly.

Being unhappy about this service I told him this was taking much longer than I had been led to believe. I asked how much longer it would take and what was this going to cost. He said he didn't know and would have to find out from the office about charges. I then called the office, explained my dissatisfaction. and asked for an estimate. They said they couldn't give me one. I said "do you mean to tell me you don't know the hourly rate?". They said it was $110.00/hr. We were charged $150.00/hr. We said to the office we wanted to talk to his supervisor because we weren't sure the work was done properly ... but they did not let us. We did get various discounts because of all that I have explained (after his supervisior called him). At the end of all this, the technician did not even check his work. I know that because the airconditioner was still off after he left.

Who Not to Call with Plumbing Problems. . . . . . .
Recently, my father had some plumbing issues with one of his bathrooms. We called a septic company to drain the septic, the bathroom seemed to work okay, but continued to occasionally back up. With the holidays approaching and family coming to visit, we needed this taken care of so we called Ken’s Plumbing & Heating Enterprises. We explained the problem and they sent out a technician. When the technician arrived, we immediately showed him the trap to the bathroom, which was slightly rusty. Instead of messing with the rusted trap, he proceeded to snake the toilet as well as snake through the roof. The total cost came out to $250.00. Unfortunately, the repair did not fix our problem and we continued to have issues with the bathroom. The morning of the 31st (1 day later), we called Ken’s Plumbing & Heating, again, and they told us that they do not warranty septic, drains, and/or their work. In addition, because it was New Year’s Eve, we would be charged a holiday charge (double pay) to have a technician out to re-service the repair they never fixed the first time. Since when has New Year’s Eve been considered a holiday? Anyhow, I explained to Ken’s Plumbing that we never told them it was a septic/drain issue, we called a plumber to take care of the problem and they didn’t. They stated that they probably could not get ahold of anyone. Basically, we were SOL. Our issue needed to be taken care of so we called Roto-Rooter. Roto-Rooter immediately came out fixed the problem and used the trap, which was pointed out to the other tech at Ken’s Plumbing but he disregarded. Not only did Roto-Rooter charge us less and warranted their work for 6 months, they fixed the problem the first time. Long story short, if you have ANY plumbing problems/needs call someone who warranties their work, who will do it right, and not be rude!
