Carino Nurseries, a third generation family run business, was founded by the A. F Carino in 1946. In the beginning, the nursery was used primarily to supply planting stock for the reclaimed areas of the Carino surface mining operations. As time went on, it gradually developed into one of the largest commercial barefoot seedling nurseries in the country. Also in 1946, Mr. Carino began his fresh-cut Christmas tree operation by planting Scotch pine seedlings on areas of the various mining properties, which were not disturbed by the mining. At one time, Carino Nurseries was one of the ten largest growers of Christmas trees in the United States. Carino Nurseries is located in Indiana County, Penn.
