Michael Nugent DDS

Dental Examination
Basically, the dental exam is a fact-finding mission to give Dr. Nugent all the diagnostic information so that he can give recommendations on your dental needs. This is a very detailed dental visit.
X-rays
Here is another example of someone getting a “free exam and X-ray”. This patient was a friend of a patient and had gone to a dental clinic near her work. The clinic advertised “free exam and x-rays” for a new patients. She was told she had seven cavities and she was concerned. Her friend recommended she come see me for a second opinion. The patient came to me and I did a limited exam and 4 bite-wing x-rays. In my opinion there was NO DECAY present. There was minor staining but I used my cavity detecting laser and verified the stains were not decay.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral Cancer screening: Dr. Nugent or the hygienist will check for lumps, red or white patches or recurring sore areas. Screening for early changes in the oral tissue can help discover suspicious lesions sooner. When found early, oral cancers have an 80 to 90 % survival rate.

Teeth Cleaning
Dr. Nugent understands that dental care needs change with age. Many seniors may need more restorative dental care and more frequent dental cleanings due to dry mouth, side effects of medications, systemic diseases, and lack of manual dexterity to brush teeth properly. Elderly dental patients often suffer dental pain that can be prevented by regular dental visits.

Fillings
Amalgam Fillings (silver/metal fillings) have an extremely long history in dentistry. Dr Nugent rarely uses amalgams anymore because of the tremendous advancements of composite fillings and the fact that amalgams are not cosmetic. However, in certain situations amalgams fillings will work better.
Veneers
Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain bonded onto the front of your teeth. The veneers will change the color, size and shape. Veneers are typically used on teeth that are chipped, discolored, not proportional, unevenly spaced or crooked. Little or no anesthesia is needed. Veneers are very durable and can last up to twenty years. They are resistant to staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking.
Crowns
A Dental Crown is used to replace large missing tooth structure with a very strong porcelain. A crown can even improve the cosmetics of the tooth. There are many benefits of a crown. However, the downside is that a crown can take multiple visits. Until now!
Bridges
Dental bridges are non-removable appliances that use your existing teeth as anchors and have fake teeth between those anchors. A bridge can fill in missing spaces, retain facial shape, prevent teeth from shifting, restore chewing surfaces, and rebuild your smile.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are necessary when the dental pulp (nerve) is injured, diseased and ultimately dies. The most common causes of pulp death are extensive decay, deep fillings, trauma, cracks in the tooth and periodontal (gum) disease. The necrotic pulp tissue must be removed and the inside of the tooth sterilized. Then the inside of the tooth is sealed and then a final restoration can be performed.

Deep Cleaning
More price gouging and unbundling of fees as the Corporate office is going to charge 40 dollars to irrigate the gum tissue with Chlorhexidine. At my office this anti-bacterial irrigation is included with the Deep Cleaning fee. Furthermore, the Corporate Clinic is going to charge 118 dollars for putting an antibiotic pellet into the gum tissue. My office charges 34 dollars for this treatment. Lastly, my bone graft fee is 275 and the Clinic is charging 480. The Corporate Treatment plan is full of bull crap up charges and is pathetic.

Dentures
Gum Disease is caused by plaque and bacteria. Gum disease is much worse with ill-fitting dentures, tobacco use, and poor diets. Also, some diseases like anemia, cancer, and diabetes can accelerate gum disease. Gum disease is the leading factor of tooth loss.

Dental Implants
This patient is the Father of a local Orthodontist. He fractured some teeth and needed dental implants. This was a very technical case and there was a lot of added stress because I was working on the Father of a local Orthodontist. This Orthodontist refers a lot of patients to my office because she trusts me with her patients.

Tooth Extractions
For Dr. Nugent: Fast and less invasive protocol for tooth extraction. Plus, huge safety factor as the Cube can not cut soft tissue.
Bone Grafting
Lisa’s relative went to a dental chain a mile from my office and they did a “free” consult. His free visit lasted 15 minutes and he got presented with a HUGE treatment plan. The treatment plan is sickening. He got a free initial exam but yet they are going to charge the patient a “consult fee per session” of 156 dollars each time he comes to the office. Then the Corporate Dentist wants to do Advanced Bone Surgery with Guided Tissue Regeneration and Bone Grafting. This is FREAKING NUTS!!!!

Cosmetic Dentistry
In the course of routine dentistry or even cosmetic dentistry the gum tissue may be in the way. Dr. Nugent can easily use his laser to painlessly remove the tissue. In conjunction with, sometimes the gum tissue covers the teeth and creates poor cosmetic proportions and the appearance of short, fat teeth. Simply removing the excess gum tissue will allow for more cosmetic proportions.
