Far Country Animal Hospital
2701 N Liahona Dr, Palmer, AK 99645
We used to love this clinic. Then they changed to a walk-in basis only about the same time that most of their staff left. Recently, my dog that was ill was told by the vet to come in for a recheck. When I took him there, we waited over 2 1/2 hours to be seen. Meantime "some" people had been given appointments and we left when someone who was a friend of a friend was allowed to "walk" in ahead of our suffering dog because they had arranged with an employee to "walk in" for a vet check up and immunizations. There were no emergencies ahead of us. I will only visit there again to get my pet records and take him somewhere where they put the animals first.
Very warm and attentive clinic from our interaction with the front desk, the vet techs and then both Dr. Wares who treated our injured puppy, professionally and expeditiously which we appreciate more than you will ever know!! We were given a price range for services which when all said and done was significantly less than the lowest quoted price. We felt very comfortable leaving our baby overnight in the very capable hands of their care team after consulting with Dr. Ware who came in on his time off to perform surgery at a late hour. Awesome job to you all and thank you from the bottoms of our hearts! Terry, Lisa and Rebel ❤️
We have been taking our dog Merlin to this clinic for the past 5 years. We have nothing but praise for all the staff! We have never felt they only wanted our money! From regular vet visits, dental care, and also an emergency situation, we have always been impressed with the caring attitude and expertise of the staff!
I've been to Far Country twice. Both under terrible circumstances. My regular vet was not available both times, as it was after hours. My dog was hit by a unknown vehicle at the end of march, she was rushed to our regular vet, but they were unable to provide overnight care for her, we are talking severely bruised and damaged lungs and liver. Not to mention a dislocated hip. so reluctantly we brought her back to Far Country, as my vet said they could provide overnight care. Upon arrival, as I am already a complete wreck, this is my baby. I am greeted by a very nice young lady who asks me for my information. But is interrupted by another young girl named Sierra ( I will not be able to forget her name as she made me very upset.) starts to say and not quietly " you need to have them sign emergency paperwork, did you not see how labored her breathing is?" as someone who was in this situation first had, maybe it was something that she wanted us to be aware of. However, it made me even more panicked as we had just transported her there and i was wondering if i would loose her. to me it was very unprofessional. the doctor who was on call however was amazing, let me call and ask how she was doing, and always had helpful information. Again when it came time to get my dog, the bill was extremely high. Yes they provide you with estimates to make the shock and awe less. but her over night stay was just shy of what we had to pay for her surgery. I don't know if this is just my luck, but I do not bring my dog here unless its an emergency and I have absolutely no other choice. I feel as though taking my pet in to a facility for her well being should be a family feel, & I just don't get that from far country
If you want a place that cares more about taking your money rather than caring for your pet, you have found it. After I shared my rather horrible experience with this clinic with friends, I found out that others had virtually identical experiences. I have had other pets that needed to be euthanized and it was done sensitively and humanely. This vet gave the dog a huge dose of sedative so that the dog toppled over. I was left with the distinct impression that they wanted to just get me out of there so they could put somebody else in the room. Avoid this place like the plague.
Dear Kathleen, we are very concerned about the incident you described, this is not the level of service and care we strive to provide to every patient and every client at every visit, but especially at the time of losing a pet. We would very much like to know more about your experience and any circumstances that surrounded it. Although this experience will likely remain with you for some time to come, please accept our offer to try to make this better in whatever way we can. Please contact our office to speak to Cassandra, the Practice Manager.
I would never go back here. I had to take my very sick small dog there and I was new to the area. The staff was friendly but the doctors cared more about the money than giving my husband and I the privacy to say good bye to our dying 17 yr old baby girl. They did not even close the office-treatment door - er had to close it to stop the people watching our pain. I will miss my baby girl so much, but I would never never never go back to this office again. I have had to put several dogs to sleep and have never been treated with so much disrepect and without compassion as I did at this office. After speaking to my co-workers I found that several of them had similar experiences there. That is when I wanted to post this for others to see.
I am very sorry for you loss. We try very hard to make the experience of eutanizine a pet as painless as possible. I am unfamiliar with the details of you case, but I assure you the things you describe are not typical of the services we provide and not the way I would like you to experience our facility. If you would like to discuss this with me so that I can help resolve this, or any problem you have with Far Country Animal Hospital, I am happy to talk with you.
The entire staff at Far Country is amazing. They always go above and beyond to make sure your pets are happy. You can usually even get in same day, without having to pay for an 'emergency' visit!! The vets are all extremely good with animals, AND with owners. The ladies up at the front are excellent. I can't say enough good things about Far Country. I wont take my pets any place else!
