I recently ordered a cake for an event and picked the cake style from their catalog or actual photos. We always support local businesses and were excited to learn of the new ownership. The cake looked like something one would make during a Wilton baking class. The cake we chose was to look like a pink present with a big white ribbon and a very large white bow laid on the top of the box which was the focal point of the cake. It was a box cake. There were to be little pearls scattered all over the box. First it wasn't a box at all. The corners of the box weren't crisp. They were rounded and bumpy. The pink fondant which was covering the cake was bumpy and with many flaws. The white ribbon and bow were rolled so thin that you could see the pink through it. The focal point of the cake was a big white ribbon bow and the ribbon fondant was so thin that by the time it came home it had collapsed and cracked. How embarrassing to present this during my daughter s baby shower. When we cut the cake opened the filling was stacked so thick that the layers fell apart. It was layered so sloppy inside. In addition the filling stopped roughly 2" from the cakes edge. The two layers weren't even trimmed to one uniform size. The bottom layer was about 1/2 smaller than the top and they filled the gap with butter cream. I have ordered so many fondant cakes in the past. The filling usually meets butter cream close to the cakes edge about 1/4 to 1/2" in. The butter cream touches the filling in the layers and keeps the fondant uniform. My daughter picked it up for me because I was home preparing for our guests. Trust me if I would have gone myself to pick up the cake, I would have never left the store with it. $200.00 for two 8 cakes (one fondant and one butter cream) and 20 cupcakes. Would have done better with a supermarket bakery.I am a fair lady and always give one an opportunity to redeem themselves. I called there so upset and discussed the cake with the owner. She said nothing. She took $20.00 off the bill. In their eyes, I'm guessing they rolled out a quality cake. Maybe they don't know any better. Not sure but I will share this...If you are getting a butter cream cake done, I wouldn't hesitate and suggest this bakery. One of the two cakes we purchased was a butter cream birthday cake. The cake was beautiful and tasty. It too had way too much filling but I could live with that with a butter cream cake. Cupcakes, they were okay too. But save yourself disappointment and do not order a fondant cake from them. What you pick out from their catalog will not be delivered. Quite frankly I don't believe they made any of the cakes photographed in their catalog. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
I only wish I could give a lower score than 1 star. My issue is with their customer service. I tried to use a Groupon and I was treated like I was some evil person trying to steal from them. I am assuming the person who talked to me was the "owner". She was patronizing, borderline rude. If you do not want business via "coupons" do NOT issue them. There are too many cupcake/bakeries in the area. I got my Groupon refunded. I needed cupcakes for a last minute celebration dinner, I drove to sweet! @ Waterford Lakes where they actually treat customers like the appreciated them (even when you use a coupon).
