Terrible! I called in the morning to make a reservation, went to check in later that night around 10 pm with my 2 young kids and 4 hours from home and they had me marked as a no show! Took almost an hour to get it figured out and handled, the girl at the desk was very nice gave me a free night because I was calling to find a different place. Room was dirty, dirty toilet paper in bathroom and dirt every where. Next morning I go to desk and a different girl was there explained what happened and to make sure I had a room for this night. She tried charging me an extra night because I wasn't supposed to get a free room! I debated it and ended up signing a receipt for one night... Get home she charged me for another night that I was not even there for! I have been calling for 3 days now and the manager will not call me back!

In response to your post to the Oscoda Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as all of the travel sites you took the time to find, I have the following information to offer all who will read this. You called the resort and asked the Desk Clerk to check the Lounge, as you thought you had left your wallet in there. He did that, but did not find it anywhere and that is why he stated to you that he did not find your wallet. He decided to look up your room number and check that for you, in which case he did find it in a drawer, with over $500.00 in cash in it. He called you back to let you know about it, and you asked him to mail it to you. He did make the decision that was not confirmed by me that we could not mail your wallet back to you. He made this decision because he was worried about sending it with that much cash in it to you. His decision was not the same one I would have made, however, I was not consulted and therefore what happened was unfortunate. However, I would like to state that you left your wallet in our room. It was not our mistake, and I think you are very lucky that i have honest staff and your wallet was returned to you with every dollar still in it. That was a significant amount of cash and I would be greatful if I had left my wallet somewhere, that someone found it and kept it safe for me with that much money in it. I did feel bad that you had to drive back to Oscoda to get it, however, I'm not sure why you feel I should give you something for free when you're the one who left your personal belongings here at my resort. Especially something that significant.Respectfully,Catherine EberhardtOwnerWoodland Pines Resort
We went during the off-season for a quick overnight, and since many of the resorts are closed, we ended up here. The price was reasonable. The room was fine. It's budget-y. Zero frills, but none expected. The front desk at check-in was fine. The bar/restaurant was great. A little pricey for cheap wine and fried stuff, but the overwhelmed bartenders did well (there was a private party going on at the resort at the same time.)We didn't use the pool area, but understand that it is popular among locals as well as visitors. We slept okay, but there was ALOT of noise from our neighbors. We had a nice, but unremarkable breakfast, toured the lakefront cottages and left.As we left, we thought, sure, we'll come back. Then, after our 3.5 hour drive back home, I couldn't find my wallet. This is where Woodland Pines went from ok to never again. I called immediately, and spoke with a man at the front desk. I described my wallet thoroughly, down to the color of thread. He said there was no wallet. Within 3 minutes, while I was on the phone with my credit card company, the man called back and said yes, we have your wallet. I asked if they could overnight it. I offered to pay for it. He said, with authority, that the owner would not approve that and it couldn't be done. My only option, he said, was to drive back up there and get it. I told him it was a 3-hour drive and his response was that the wallet would be in the night deposit box. He gave me a cell phone for a night manager. I decided to wait until the morning because driving in the country without identification and money is dumb. I took the day off of work, and drove up to the hotel to get my wallet. When I arrived, I was greeted by the owner and a front desk person who said, we were wondering if you were coming up. I told her about the drive, the day off, the stress and asked that they change their policy to mail people their belongings. I told her of my conversations with her night person, and all she said was, "of course we could have mailed it." As I stood there, tears in my eyes, for the lost day of work and the stress of driving without my wallet through a part of Michigan I wasn't familiar with, she looked at me and said, "sorry." She offered me nothing for my trouble. Nothing. Not even a cup of coffee, not even a $5 breakfast on the house. Those were the least things she could have done. She could have offered me a complimentary night to make up for the $50 in gas I spent that day and the 7 hours in my car. She offered me nothing. In fact, she chided me for not calling at 7 a.m. before I got on the road to drive to Oscoda on the day off that it turns out I never needed to take. That night, I wrote her a note through their webpage requesting that they call to talk about the situation. Had that call come, I'm sure we would have come to a reasonable conclusion. No call ever came. The owner needs to wake up. She needs to train her staff better. She needs to put herself in the shoes of her customers and treat them with even a shred of dignity when her staff's mistakes have inconvenienced her customers. I wouldn't stay here again. I wouldn't recommend it. I would hope that the city's chamber of commerce would read this and work with her to make this "resort" live even moderately up to its name.
