As an advocate of small business and entrepreneurship, I found David Markovitz of Boat Lift Marine Center in Osage Beach to install a lift for a boat I purchased this spring. I was referred to David and his business through word of mouth and failed to inquire further of his body of work. The lift failed after only 2 months of use, causing damage to both my boat and our dock. Upon failure of the lift, it was rendered useless.I attempted to reconcile the issue with David and work towards a fair and equitable solution for both of us. David was unwilling to acknowledge any fault and deferred the lift failure to improper use (i.e. user-error). Open to the idea that I could have misused my lift, I had others in the lift business come by to take a look at the damage. Upon receiving a second and third opinion, I have concluded that my role in the incident was limited and the fault is with David and Boat Lift Marine Center. After receiving these additional opinions, I proposed to David that we each admit 50% fault and split the resulting costs evenly. David declined, insisting that he played no role in the incident and as such would not be willing to work with me to resolve the issue. As an avid family of boaters who have been coming to the lake for nearly 20 years, owning multiple boats / lifts during that time, I have never felt more slighted and taken advantage of than when I worked with David. Although, I have concluded that it is not worth the time or money to pursue any legal action, I urge you to please save yourself the trouble and purchase a lift elsewhere. I knew David Markovitz as a neighbor, and if he was not willing to work fairly with me, I would not recommend anyone doing business with Boat Lift Marine Center in Osage Beach.
