Flatbread and Buffalo... Yum!

I was in town for a meeting and was told by the concierge to try a new restaurant on the famed International Drive called Funky Monkey. I thought she was joking, but she assured me I would enjoy it. I am so glad I took her up on this one. I almost didn't go when the taxi driver was telling me about all of the places to dine around there, but I took it as a sign when he dropped me off basically at their front door! The hostess was very pleasant and directed me to the bar. My sever suggested a Pinot Noir (I believe it was called Saintsberry) after asking about my likes and dislikes. I wanted a mixed drink, but they only have beer and wine. I have to admit the Pinot Noir was very good though. I ordered two specials, the flatbread to start and the bison short ribs for dinner. The flatbread was light and crispy and had several meats on top with light cheese (aparently they change them all the time). This thing was HUGE and was really enough to feed me, but I had already ordered the bison ribs based on the glowing review of the server. I have never had them before, but now I am on a mission to find them where I live!!! They were so tender, juicy and delicious. The only problem was the portions... after the flatbread and then eating the bison with mashed potatoes I thought I was going to bust! Next month I am back in Orlando with my family and will definately make the trip back. I want to have a few people with me so I can sample more food! I will follow up, lord willing, when i return from that trip!

Slow, unprofessional, and RUDE!

Slow, unprofessional, and RUDE!

I met 4 other girlfriends here for dinner after work on a Thursday night. When I arrived, the only other patrons were a family of 3 seated at a table and a group of about 7 adults standing near the bar. My group sat for at least 20 minutes before a server approached to even ask for our drink order. The entire time we were waiting, 4-5 servers were standing in cluster only about 7 feet away chit chatting and occasionally glancing over at us. Finally, a young waitress from the group of servers walked past our table and we asked her if we could order our drinks. Three of us ordered a glass of wine, and the other girls ordered water. When the waitress asked ""sparkling or flat?"", one girl said ""Just regular water."" Apparently ordering ""regular water"" means a bottle of still water and charged to everyone's tab.

The food took quite a while to come out, but overall, it tasted decent. My friend thought the pine nuts were burnt, and the blue cheese on my flatbread was lumped into 2 globs in 2 corners rather than spread evenly. When the checks came, we noticed that we were all charged for ""BLT"" which is the bottle of still water she imposed on us. I took my check up to the bar to bring it to her attention and she said she would take care of it. When she came back to the table, we explained that plain ice water was never offered (even when ordered!) and that she took it up herself to fill all of our glasses with the bottled stuff. She seemed annoyed but took our checks to make the adjustments. When she returned, she had placed the entire charge for the bottle of water on one girl's check and suddenly added 20% gratuity to all of ours. When my friend said she had simply ordered regular water and not bottled, the waitress, in a hostile tone, snapped, ""Well you drank it."" We asked to speak to the Manager.

At this point, we were already 25 minutes into trying to sort out the checks. The Manager (Steve?) walked over and we tried to explain that none of us ordered the bottled water, just plain water. We then asked why our ""adjusted"" checks suddenly included an automatic 20% gratuity when the original check did not. He explained that they automatically added that to parties of 5 or more. We countered back that it wasn't on our original checks and it conveniently appeared when the bottled water was being removed. I said 20% was pretty presumptuous considering we sat for over 20 minutes without being approached by a server. The manager curtly replied that that wasn't true because he sat us himself. We called him on this lie (he sat none of us!) and pointed out that he was one of the 4-5 just standing around the entire time we waited. When we asked for his card, he ignored us and stormed away. 5-10 minutes later, our waitress approached and tried to justify the water fiasco when the manager reappeared by her side. He sent her away and told us he was only doing his job ""investigating"" our claim and that is was his duty to ""question"" us. We again complained about the 20% gratuity and he said he would fix the checks. After another 15 minutes, the correct checks finally arrived and we could not wait to get as far away from that place and Steve and Katie as we could. The ridiculous amount of time spent trying to get our checks fixed ended up costing us all more money for parking.

I have never encountered such attitude and nastiness from both server and manager for trying to clear up a situation. All said and done, it really felt like they are running a con by charging you for plain old water, and if you dare question it, don't be surprised to find added gratuity to compensate for them removing the water charge.

Steve and Katie- you should both be ashamed of yourselves for treating customers this way. We were as polite and patient as possible and you two were classless jerks. I sincerely hope you find jobs that don't put you in contact with the public. You have no business bein
