Orlando Brewing is Florida's only certified organic brewery. In fact, it is one of only a handful in the entire country. Being organic means that all ingredients used in making their products are grown without the use of insecticides, bioengineering, or irradiation. President John Cheek believes "this is the right way to make beer. It keeps us honest." No fillers or adjuncts are used and all their beers are made in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516. This law, which is well known but no longer in force in Germany, specifies that beer can only be made with Barley, Hops, Water, and Yeast. The organic certification comes from the US Department of Agriculture and involves a multi step process to receive the right to display the certification on their labels. With more than a dozen taps always flowing in their Tap Room, Orlando Brewing serves some of the cleanest, freshest, and tastiest beers you'll ever try! As a testimony to their brewing prowess, two of the first beers they ever made, Blonde Ale and Pale Ale, are still among their most popular. They have expanded to include a wide range of styles, including a red, porter, stout, brown ale, IPA and more. In addition, they usually have one or two seasonal beers available, such as a Maibock, Oktoberfest, or Doppelbock. This month they introduce their latest seasonal, Miami Wiess, a hefenwiezen style summer ale. As surprising as it may seem, the water in Central Florida is ideal for beer making. It has been scientifically analyzed and found to be comparable to that of Burton-on-Trent in England, where many great English ales are brewed. The water comes from the Florida aquifer, an underground reservoir of fresh water that contains high levels of calcium. This "hard" water produces beers with a clean finish and little after taste. As anyone with a water softener can attest, "soft" water feels slick when washing, like you still have soap on you no matter how many times you rinse. Beer made with soft water does the same thing to your mouth and tongue. The organic, or green, theme of John's company extends beyond the brewing process. The company utilizes reusable plastic six-pack holders instead of throwaway cardboard. They ship their bottles in returnable plastic milk crate type containers. They are also in the planning stages of putting in a solar array on the roof of the brewery to generate their own power. Orlando Brewing also produces organic coffee and BBQ sauce. The sauce is made with the brewery's own unfermented beer, which gives it a malty sweetness. Both coffee and BBQ sauce are available in the brewery's gift shop. Orlando Brewing currently distributes their products in over 80 Central Florida establishments, including many restaurants and bars. The brewery and Tap Room are open daily, Mon-Thur 3-10 pm, Fri & Sat noon till late, and Sunday noon to 9 pm. They also have free live music on Friday and Saturday night as well as free Wi-Fi. The gift shop in the Tap Room has a variety of brewery shirts, glassware, labels and other breweriana for sale. You can also purchase 6 packs, growlers, and even kegs of their products on site. The brewery is located at 1301 Atlanta Ave., across the tracks from the historic Orlando railroad station. While visiting the Orlando area for a mini-vacation over the weekend, I had the opportunity to stop at this location of ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. As a long time customer of locations in the Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Vero Beach areas, I know the brand and enjoy the competitive prices. At about 3:45 p.m. on June 5th, I had the opportunity to meet Arthur Maille, an ABC wine consultant. Long story short, I was staying at the Parc Soleil by Hilton a few blocks away and needed to stock my refrigerator for the weekend. I didn't feel like paying "per drink" hotel prices and since my suite had a full kitchen, why not use the refrigerator? I needed a few bottles of red wine and some Bacardi rum. I went with a Bacardi black rum at a sale price of $18.99 for the 1.75 lire and a regular bottle of Bacardi rum at $18.99 on sale. Arthur suggested the Anticipation red wine as it was on sale "BOGO free" at a final price of $11.50 per bottle and a bottle of Hart & McGarry Cabernet Sauvignon at $12.99 a bottle. I later found the two wine selections by Arthur to be great choices. The Bacardi is a life long favorite and didn't require a lot of assistance. Although offered a wine sample, I declined as I had my wife and three kids in the car as the driver. My cashier was Shawn. He inquired about my ABC rewards card - which for some reason I've never properly activated - and questioned whether I found everything I was looking for. Shawn even had time to answer a "cash back" question for the customer behind me. Seems like she wanted cash back along with her couple dollar purchase. Clean store, plenty of parking and an overall positive experience. A strong 4-star rating for this particular visit to ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. /s/ William E. I have lived in the different boroughs in New York and Jersey, and whoever wrote that nasty review needs to eat somewhere else, because they ain't got any taste! I mean look at the other places they said to eat at. What about mama Mia's awesome food? Did That guy think to even mention that in his review? Racist?!?! What's wrong, they didn't get something for free when they complained? I wouldn't take my family anywhere else to get pizza. We get our pizza on Friday nights and we got to get our wings on Saturday nights. The owners brother has been working there forever, or at least as long as we've been eating there (about 8 years). He cracks us up, and my kids love going there. I also bring people in from work to eat pizza for lunch. I wish i was mama mia because if someone was talkin smack like that about my place and i found out about it... i'd take care of that punk straight up italian style! Whoever wrote that whack review needs to just stay home and eat some nasty frozen grocery store pizza. stop takin up space at my favorite pizza shop, maybe the rest of us who actually know something about good pizza can get served faster. i also live in belle isle, and i'm hoping i ain't got neighbors that messed up! Its nice livin on the water but some of y'all just crazy!
My boyfriend and I went to TGI Friday's for dinner. Let me first say that I always go looking to try something new, but my safe meal is the parmesan crusted chicken. Anyway, I'm looking at the menu for a while debating on a few things, long story short I wanted my safe meal. The waiter "G" TOLD me my order. I don't care if a thousand women one after another come and order parm chicken, as a server you are never suppose to predict their order or tell them what they are ordering. Then later on he forgot what kind of soda I had ordered as if it didn't matter. I've been a server and I never forgot an order or kept them waiting for a refill. This guy was just so arrogant and not funny at all, though he sure thought he was. There was no respect for the patron here and as I looked around, servers carrying on full conversations and jokes with each other in full view of hungry patrons. I know it's suppose to be friday everyday in there, but that's for customers to have a good time, not watch as they get mediocre service and someone else has fun! However, the food was really good! I'd call ahead and order it for pick up, specially the cheesecake, awesome! Props to the chefs for the mash potatoes too!
I can seriously not believe how good this place is. Driving back to downtown from Lowe's my husband and I passed the place and as usual said - "we have to try that place one day"...well today was the day and we were both blown away as was my mother who we got a piece of Flounder. We had gator tail, catfish, flounder, scallops, onion rings, collard greens and fried okra because we figured let's try it all since we are here. There wasn't one thing that was not fabulous. With the exception of a handful of places, Orlando hasn't exactly been a great or even good culinary experience for me so this was a very pleasant surprise. The girl behind the counter was super nice and helpful, it appears to maybe be family run? All I know is it was absolutely delicious and we are already making plans to go back with friends. Let me also mention it was quint and clean inside. Wow!
The Beacham downtown is the new great place for concerts. The new sound stage is amazing! There are ample amount of bars to get drinks from, so no long lines, and four of which you never have to leave sight of the stage. The staff is friendly and prompt. In fact, I even witnessed a guy being rude to one of the female bartenders, but she took the high road and was cordial to the guy despite his rudeness. Though the venue was packed that night, there was still plenty of room to walk around. There's nothing worse than being in a club where you can't move without feeling like you're being accosted by someone or being pickpocketed. Definitely a club worth checking out, I will certainly be putting The Beacham in my rotation downtown. From the looks of their website, they're bringing in some great bands, too so I know me and my friends will be venturing their again many times.
This place is great, everyone was friendly, warm it just feels like going home to Moms. I went for lunch on a Saturday from the moment I walked in I knew this was a place I'd like to spend time at. As soon as you open the door you are greeted with a smile and a warm "hello, please grab a seat and I'll be right over with a menu". My server was professional yet I felt like I had made a new friend, she suggested an ice cold Amber Bock and homemade fried green tomatoes-- yummmmmmmmm. I was with 2 friends, we ordered the special of the day Taco Salad, Mini Burgers and a Steak and Gorgonzola Salad everyone had a wonderful lunch. The homemade ranch dressing was to die for. We were told by our server Erica that the Triple Layer Chocolate Cake was the best ever, she was right I have never had a more decadent delicious chocolate treat. We will be back!!!
Some of the best I've ever had. The house salad is fresh cut lettuce and tomatoes and the house dressing is wonderful. Most places don't bother with the simple things like this, but it makes all the difference in the world. I knew I was in for a treat when I ordered the Dentici' Genovese. Snapper sautéed in light butter sauce with onions, capers, garlic, olives, and pine nuts over pasta. It was amazing! My wife got the ravioli, and I snagged one in exchange for a bite of snapper and noodles- homemade and delicious! The servings are very generous and the quality is out of this world. It's a small place, and I am shocked there's not a line out the door, even on a Monday night. Best kept secret of the area!
I travel quite often around Florida and dine in many establishments but I have to strongly say that Cricketers Arms Pub and Eatery is the best English Pub in Florida. It is a very relaxing atmosphere where I have enjoyed many afternoons sitting watching English football and enjoying some of the best beers that are hand drawn and from England. The food is always made fresh and I can honestly say is very good. I have never not enjoyed my meal at Cricketers Arms. I would recommend this establishment to anyone and everyone. If you are looking for great food, great beer and an awesome relaxed atmosphere then Cricketers Arms Pub and Eatery is your place to be.
I came here with a few friends after I heard that they were under new management. We had an awesome time! They've got great happy hour specials and lots of TVs for the games. Also, they're willing to change the TVs to whatever game you want, which is not very common on I-Drive in my experience. We tried the BloodHound Hot BBQ wings and the BloodHound Nachos... They were both great. Also, if you've never played Whirlyball, it's a blast. It's like a combination of bumper cars and basketball. So much fun and you'll want to keep playing again and again. I would highly recommend this place and we plan on coming back again and again.
