Location- This is my favorite Kerbey location. It's the original and the charm of a house-turned-restaurant makes the small size worth it. And here, you miss a lot of the student crowd. The service is hit or miss, but if you can get Joy as your server, do! She's great. Food- Order the Kerbey Queso (or Cowboy Queso). Just do it. I go with my super-picky sister who doesn't eat pico de gallo or guacamole so we get both on the side. It's perfect because then there's more of everything. The salsa that comes with it isn't spectacular by itself, but alongside the queso it's perfect. The chipotle chicken pasta is awesome. (This might be a seasonal item... I don't think it's on the menu right now) The shredded chicken quesadillas and tacos are decent. The pancakes are thick, heavy ones- not like light, fluffy IHOP pancakes. These guys have serious substance. I like the apple whole wheat and lemon poppyseed! Even if I'm not ordering breakfast, I'll get a pancake on the side. The turkey and avocado sandwich is delicious. The chocolate coffee is good- and you get two free refills. The iced coffee is pretty good too. It's cold brewed which is a plus, and I've never been able to finish the whole glass. When I first moved to Austin I wasn't completely impressed with Kerbey Lane, but now I go regularly because they're open 24 hours, the queso is awesome, and the ambiance is great!
We recently had our rehearsal dinner here, and every guest is raving about the quality of the food. Usually, when restaurants cook for a large number of people, the quality of the food is compromised. At Castle Hill, they were able to cook every beef tenderloin and fish to perfection and that…
4. Zocalo Cafe
while their food is ""standard"" dishes: enchiladas, tacos ect, they create unique ways to deliver: example instead of regular soft taco enchiladas, they stack crispy chalupas on top of eachother with goodies smushed in between YUM!
9. Counter Cafe
It is a very friendly a homely place. I felt comfortable and at ease. The food is great and the service is even better. Now some things are a little expensive, but they have things for people like me with a very tight budget. I give it a thumbs up.
10. Cafe Josie
My mom, dad & grandmother were in town last weekend and wanted to have ""a nice dinner"". So, my wife & I took them to Cafe Josie. We'd never been there, but it had been well received on Citysearch & in The Fearless Critic Austin Restaurant Guide. I made reservations for 7:00 pm on Saturday. …
We ordered a cake for a relative's 80th birthday party, which turned out to be fantastic. All of the family loved the beautiful design which topped the cake, and were also very impressed by the chocolate cake itself- moist, not overly sweet (which is always a concern with a heavily decorated cak…
12. Food 4 Fitness
I am busy and have a fast paced lifestyle that leaves me with little time to prepare healthy lunch(sometimes dinner) foods. Food for Fitness is located in the center of downtown Austin so close and convenient. The employees are kind and helpful. The food is great; fresh full and well balanced me…
13. 24 Diner
Chicken and Waffles, Meatloaf Sandwich (add an egg, bacon and avocado to it) and biscuits/gravy (which is only available on the weekends) are my favorites. Come hungry. To beat the crowds, be here before 8am weekends, by 6am weekdays.
People call me the queso queen because of my love of the ooey gooey cheesy goodness. I have to say that Maudie's hands down is my favorite queso of all time. Seriously. Try it!\r \r I love everything about this place! Spicy salsa, delicious margaritas, even great breakfast tacos! If youre…
28. Magnolia Cafe
Got turned around near mopac (at rush hour -- heaven forbid). Ended up in stand-still traffic for so long that we decided to exit the highway. Saw The Magnolia Cafe and wanted to spend some time there while waiting for traffic to die down. I got the Greek Salad and it was excellent! I think my b…
The service was indifferent, but the drinks were tasty. Atmosphere was funky and open. Fun (and old) hip-hop playing was a nice change as background noise for my computer work. Hooray for high-speed & free wi-fi! Just watch the time, or the parking nazis will be quick to ticket your car. Pa…
30. Austin Java
We go here at lease once a week- everything is awesome!! We brings the dogs outside on the patio. Love the tortilla soup and peanut chicken sandwich- the tuna sandwich is a bit dry but other than that everything rocks.
This place has been on radar for more than a year now. The last time I tried to go here, I couldn't even get into the parking lot. Now that I've actually gotten to sit down and eat, I get it. Courteous employees greet you and grab your name for a seat. Once we sat down, our waiter Saul constantly checked on us. He answered the few questions we had and we ordered the Joey Rocha, the Chicharrones, some Menudo, and a Chorizo and egg taco. The carne guisada is tender and moist, but the gravy/sauce it sits in is Heaven. I could eat that alone with the fresh flour tortillas. I wish the chicharrones were crispy but the salsa it sits in makes up for what I wanted. The menudo hit the spot as it was savory and just went down easy. The chorizo bled grease but had so much flavor. No complaints as long as I can sit down and eat.
Dear Family Man This place is good for a light moment with your wife or partner once in a while may be once in 2 years...bring kids n file bankruptcy. The cakes are cold...stale cream, mediocre assortment and expensive hot n cold bevs. Great place to sit chat relax outside the cafe overlooking the lake. If you like looking at college kids reading, browsing, may be studying, playing card games or simply whiling away their precious time by all means feel free to come and waste your money and time ..... I would rather go to the new whole foods where they have abundant assortment of fresh deserts and are sweet to sample if you are confused. Service is mediocre as well and most young people working here are not well trained on the contents of their deserts.
Kenny's Coffee House is great for getting a bite to eat or a quick coffee - especially for those of us who live in Wells Branch. Their breakfast tacos are great and reasonably priced, but I think La Brissa's tacos are a little better, and they have homemade salsa. I have also tried their breakfast platters, like eggs and biscuits and gravy - it's all pretty good. I like that their coffee is freshly roasted, not shipped in. The iced coffee and espresso drinks I've had have been very good. It's a plus that they have wifi if you need to get a little work done. I do have to say that if I didn't live in Wells Branch, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit Kenny's, but it's definitely worth going if you live nearby. Support local biz!
Elizabeth Street Cafe is a French-Vietnamese Fusion restaurant. They have everything from pho, bahn mi, and bun to crepes, macaroons, and tartlets. The food was fresh, tasty, and very well made. I had the Keffir Fried Chicken vermicelli bowl which was delicious. If you like spicy drinks, try the Saigon Morning punch. It's made with fresh jalapenos and definitely has a kick when you drink it (Definitely use the straw or your lips will be burning).
We ordered the Croque Madame and the Huevos Rancheros for breakfast: the former is a local interpretation on a soft fresh bun and it was delicious. The giant side of lame boring fries that comes with it was not worth the calories to consume. The Huevos were very good according to my dining partner. The iced tea was freshly brewed and tasty.
Love this Starbucks location (almost as much as I love Starbucks!). It's always clean and the staff is friendly. I've never had to wait in line very long here and my drink has come out quickly each time. One of my biggest complains with some locations is how understaffed they seem - I don't feel like this is the case at all here.
Our first time and we were disappointed. The waiting area is small and in the bar, which makes it hard for them to keep track of who came fist. (Yes others were seated that had com in after us) Not enough wait staff to keep up with the tables or the food orders. Food was barley warm but we ate it anyway as to not waste food.
Fantastic little gem. Food was great (Migas, Chorizo), homemade tortillas, and FRIENDLY staff. Definitely recommend and will be coming back when we're in town againQ!Fantastic little gem. Food was great (Migas, Chorizo), homemade tortillas, and FRIENDLY staff. Definitely recommend and will be coming back!!!
One word: amazing. Two words: food coma. I'd do it all again though! I'm not one to write reviews regularly, but when I do, it's because I've had an epic experience (good or bad) that I feel compelled to share. And in this case, I couldn't help but chime in on all the love for Kerbey Lane Cafe!
