NOTE: If you get a ticket, be sure to contact a lawyer to handle the traffic offense. If you get a “deferred” or “continued” sentence for a traffic offense, that offense will not be placed on your permanent driver’s record and will not be subject to public view. That is because technically a deferred sentence or a continued sentence is not really a conviction. Because your driver’s record only lists convictions, it is important to resolve traffic offenses in a manner that will not affect your license or your insurance. A deferred sentence is not a conviction!

Fraud
Mail fraud involves a scheme to defraud or to obtain money or property by false or fraudulent pretenses or promises that uses the U.S. Mails or other delivery services such as FedEx or UPS. The scheme does not have to be successful to be a crime.
Robbery
Conspiracy is nothing more than an “agreement” to commit a crime. To be convicted of conspiracy, the prosecution must prove the agreement and prove a substantial step (or overt act) was taken in furtherance of the agreement. However, the “overt act” does not have to be illegal. (For example, it is legal to own a car, but if a car is purchased as part of an agreement to commit a robbery, then purchasing the car might also be an overt act.)
Burglary
First degree burglary, domestic assault, and assault and battery. After evidence presented at preliminary hearing, case settled with burglary dismissed and misdemeanor deferred sentence on the remaining counts.*
White Collar Crimes

Assault
Even if you are innocent, do NOT resist arrest. It will only add more charges and make your legal situation more difficult for your lawyer. Do NOT touch or threaten the officer, as the police will add “assault & battery on an officer” charges, which alone carries significant punishment. Do NOT “run” under any circumstances. If you run, innocent or not, the jury can be told you fled the scene.

Money Laundering
Acquittal on 106 Counts of Fraud & Money Laundering: Bob Wyatt and Gloyd McCoy were engaged to represent a grain elevator operator previously charged with and convicted of 106 counts of uttering forged securities and engaging in illegal monetary transactions (effectively money laundering). On behalf of the client, we sought habeas corpus relief and were granted a new trial. At this re-trial, the jury convicted again, but the trial judge released the client on bond pending appeal because of the issues raised by Wyatt. Client appealed again, this time with the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals directing a Judgment of Acquittal (“not guilty”) — meaning that the client is a free man and the government cannot try him again. United States v. Hunt, 456 F.3d 1255 (10th Cir.2006). *
Kidnapping
