I am 57 years old and have studied many forms of martial arts since I was 12 at many different schools around CA, most recently with Master An in Vista/Oceanside. All of my teachers have been very good at their particular style, but few have possessed the skills and personality to work well with both young children and the older more experienced students as Master An and his family at ATMA. I have watched many of Master An’s young children classes and was VERY impressed how nice he was while also teaching the needed discipline, all the while having fun. I also took many private lessons with Master An and realized the depth of his skills and knowledge, and he always pushed me and all adult students to our limits and somehow always made it fun. I rank Master An as my favorite Martial Arts Instructor ever…and his very nice wife and young children are equally a pleasure to be around. I highly recommend ATMA and An’s Taekwondo to kids of all ages. (2 to 102 years old)

The three classes a week I take at Key Martial Arts are some of the best hours of my week! My husband and I went looking for a martial arts program for our boys (ages 8, 6, and 2), and he convinced me that it would be better if we took karate as a family. OK, I was skeptical. I am almost 40, have allowed myself to slip into bad shape, and I really (I mean really) hate to work out. I took Tae Kwon Do back in my 20s, and liked it well enough, but that was a long time ago, and I was in way better shape. Not to mention I already felt so over committed how in the world was I going to fit yet another thing into my schedule? And would I be able to enjoy the monotony of doing the same thing, over and over, week after week? I am so glad I let my hubby talk me into taking classes, because I could not have been more wrong! From the first class I knew this was going to be different. Sensei Matt is a phenomenal instructor. No two classes are ever the same, I get a fantastic workout each time, and to top it off it is so much fun! No kidding, I feel like a little kid getting let out for recess each time I go to class. While we repeat the skills we learn over and over, Sensei Matt utilizes so many different teaching methods that it never, ever seems monotonous. And I am constantly improving. I have learned more in just 1 month at Key than I learned in one year taking Tae Kwon Do. I'm not just learning a bunch of punches and kicks that I perform in the air with no idea about how to apply them or why I'm even doing them. Sensei Matt weaves in history, anatomy, physics, and real life scenarios to bring it all together. (Not to mention, he is a really, really nice guy. I never feel intimidated or self conscious, because he provides instruction without being critical.) And I never feel as if attending class is an imposition. In fact, I would be very cranky if I had to miss a day. I am totally able to clear my mind and let the stress of the day just go away. It is therapy for the body and mind. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the kids. They are doing great! Their skills are improving every day, and my husband and I really appreciate the lessons about discipline, responsibility, accountability, and respect that Sensei Matt incorporates into every class. Our two-year-old is still watching from the sidelines, but even he enjoys coming to the dojo to watch Mom and Dad or his big brothers. We plan to start him in lessons as soon as he is ready. I cannot rave enough about Key Martial Art for adults and kids!
This is a top notch studio. The studio is always very clean and you are treated like a family member every time you walk in not just the first time you visit. The atmosphere is comfortable no matter the level you are at. The instructor is extremely qualified and is extremely knowledgeable in martial arts of all forms. He instructs with humbleness and not arrogance. He demands that you try but understands we are there to learn. I was at a different place for close to a year and have learned more from this instructor and my skill level has increased more in the first month than the entire year at the other. I highly recommend that anyone interested in learning martial arts but learning not all the extraneous and useless techniques that some teach, but to learn skill that is both practical and useful in any situation, come learn from these guys, you will not find a more top notch instructor or studio any where else. My confidence alone has soared along with my skill level. I do not give compliments lightly so my rating of 5 *s is deserved!!
Just started workin' out here because it's right down the street from my house and it's been great! The guys are really cool and the atmosphere is really kick back yet intense when it's time to get intense. Lots of drilling and sparring. There are 3 black belts teaching jits at this gym, Corey, Michio, and Kevin and they all seem to be really down-to-earth and knowledgeable guys. Charlie's (one of Michio's brown belts) a really knowledgeable jiu jitsu guy as well. On top of all the great instruction they've got afternoon classes, night classes, weekend classes, mma classes, striking classes, stretching, etc. They've got everything you need to learn a great martial art and get in phenomenal shape. Lookin' forward to gettin' on the mat and learnin' some shoooooshhhhiiiiittttzzzzuuuuuu!
Coming from a personal training and wrestling background this is hands down the best place to train in North County. The fitness classes will get you ripped. Full of functional training and crazy core workouts. I also train Jiu Jitsu and couldn't be more impressed. Including world-class instructors, friendly training atmosphere and available classes for every experience level. I highly recommend taking a free class and finding out for yourself.
New Cardio Boxing Classes with trainer, Nancy Saroyan are kick a**! This studio is a martial arts gem (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) with the best professional trainers, but now are adding more cross training. I went to my first Cardio Boxing class on Wednesday morning, and was very impressed with the studio...clean and airy, and Nancy was fantastic! She is a strong professional boxing coach---with high contagious enthusiasm, eye for detail in body positioning and encouragement galore!! This class is a must for an athlete's strength and cardio training, or just like me...wanta have F U N and work out HARD with great supervision, serious coaching skills---and bonus---- if you work hard ---you WILL SEE the results!! GIVE THIS A TRY, WHY NOT!! Put boxing on your athletic repertoire...you will NOT lose---- only GAIN new abilities you never thought you had! See ya there!
