This place is a joke. i am not sure which is worse, being put down or being stuck in a cage because you are selfish in who you allow to have forever homes with. This is the short version. I can give you the full story if you would like. They feel they are God and can judge who is best suited for each animal even if they are a good match but would rather keep the animal in a cage then give them a home with an indoor, amazing and loving family. 3 of their staff members agreed that we were a perfect match for the dog who no one else wants but still they would not let us have him. I will never donate, stand behind or adopt from this place again. The staff in the office are rude and ignorant (all 4 times we were there) as well. They are not knowledgeable either. One said a dog was a year old and the paper work said 2-3 years old. Then she said the dog was not heartworm positive but the paperwork said he was. They are more of a negative to these animals then a positive. I guess, very sadly, the way they turn people away for animals that are amazing homes explains why some of these animals are still there waiting for a home years later. You people make me sick what you are doing to these animals playing God to them. There is a BIG DIFFERENCE between making sure they are a good match and RUINING THE DOGS LIFE. By the way, to the lady who told the Elder lady in there with Dementia she was going to be a bad owner and refused to allow her to have her dog even after she paid for it was disgusting. If I were the lady I would press charges against the humane society. If you did this to my mother, I would be. YOUR ORGANIZATION IS SO SAD.
I met my dog here and lost him. When I got him I fell in love. They told me he ran away from his last owner and they didn't want him back. I didnt think much of it because I thought most pounds were full of strays. We had him for 3 years. He was a lab who my whole family got close to. yes he got away once in a while and was like hydeni. I thought he could be on dog shows cuz could run super fast and jump high. He was the sweetest dog and never harmed any one. One day he got away and this pound got him. They put him asleep and told me that they can't lend him out cuz he's been there too many times as being a runner. They took him away from me 2 years ago I never got to tell him good bye. They had no shame at all and didn't give me any warning. So I rate them 1 star for giving us the best dog ever and taking him away from us. Such a waste of a great dog
We drove from Crystal River to visit and look for a dog. We found one but wanted to see if the dog we had would get along with it, We were told we would have to come back with papers on our dog to prove vacinations. The collar tag was not good enough. In order to make sure the dog would be there the next day we would have to leave a $25 deposit which we were told would be refundable. We came back the next day with all the paperwork and were told we had no proof our dog was taking heartguard, even though the papers showed negative heartworm test in Jan 2013. We were then told that until we could adopt the dog, a home visit would be necessary. OK if you want to make the 40 mi. drive one way, but we do not intend to make the trip again, and again. A "Sonny" then told us we could not have our $25 deposit back, because we changed our mind. Primarily due to the attitude, especially of this Sonny. The dog never left the shelter and we just got swindled out of $25 . Would not recommend this place to anyone
