Car Accident Aftermath »
No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.

All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
How much is a quality trustworthy mechanic worth? PRICELESS!I’ve been relying on Lam from J&L Auto to service my 2002 Saturn for over the past 7 years and have always been impressed with the consistent quality of workmanship my car has received. I take pride in keeping my car which has over 150K miles running great and attribute this mainly to the outstanding service I get from J&L Auto. What is most exceptional about this business is that never once have I been recommended services to my aging car for which it did not need. On the contrary, Lam has suggested only the necessary repairs costing much less then the excessive recommendations I always got from the national chain store mechanics and quick lube chains who do nothing more then up sell service that is displayed from their computer screen. Thankfully, I started going to J&L Auto through a recommendation from my Uncle after being told I needed over $700 in repairs to my engine from a well known retail auto chain. It turned out my car needed little more work then a routine tune-up which was a fraction of the cost. Ever since then, I continue to trust Lam and J&L Auto for their expert and HONEST advice for all repairs and routine maintenance on my car.
To my dismay my new (used) mini van ran into a big problem shortly after purchasing it from a local dealership. I was recommended to this auto shop but was very anxious bc my car came with a warranty that I had heard not so great reviews about. Well that was a lot of needless worry . Everyone on the staff I dealt with was courteous and professional. They were the ones who dealt with my warranty company, I was kept updated throughout all the repairs, everything was done on a timely basis, and I was even offered a ride home and they offered me help if I needed to figure out how to secure a rental car during repairs as well. Devin, the owner made me feel like my family's new vehicle was in the best hands possible and I'm relieved that this was the shop I walked into. It's been a bit of time now and I can say that the van has been running in top condition since I've gotten it back. I'm so grateful to them for giving me a stress free experience and getting me safely back in the road and would not hesitate to recommend Joe Pirrone Transmissions to anyone who is in need of transmission work and looking for someone trustworthy to deal with.
i had a crazy situation with my 02 ford explorer.. i went to joe because my aunt had two of her cars fixed there before and they worked good for her. i bought the car like a year ago, and first i started havin problems wit the 4x4 during the winter. joe got that fixed for me with my warranty company with no issues. a few months later, my trans started actin crazy when i was drivin on the highway. i took it back to joe and lucky for me my warranty company still had coverage but they didn't want to pay the full price joe got me as much as he could from the warranty people, and dropped the price for me so i could get my car back for work. they didn't really have to drop me price for me if they didnt want to but its good to kno that theirs people still around that understand the problems we got in the economy. i told joe id write him a review on here and i always forgot until now but i just wanted to thank them again for doin a good job on my baby and workin with me money wise. id tell anyone i know to use them. thanks again guys. you got a satisfied customer rite here
For the last 3 years I have been taking my car to Pep Boys, and they have been nickle and dime'ing me to death. The last time I took it to PB they told me it was going to cost over $2K to replace just my a/c unit in the car because it had a hole in it. I said no way! My friend told me about Dillon's Auto Repair so I deiced to give him a try. I usually don't write reviews but for the service, experience, friendliness and the cost I just had to leave this review. Took my car (with no appointment) and asked him to look the whole car over as I am an Uber driver and did not want to break down. With-in 2 days he had my car inspected, my a/c unit fixed and my over heating problem all done. Now for 3 YEARS PB was never able to do all of that in 2 days! And for the price I paid I highly recommend Dillon's Auto. I have found a new doctor for my car and I couldn't be happier! Thank you so much to the team at Dillon's Auto Repair Shop! (Would of given more stars if I could of)
A friend of mine recommended I go here as he previously took his car to get fixed. My AC was not working properly and I've had so many different mechanic throw different prices at me that were astronomical. Jon ( one of the shop operators) looked at my car and after a series a questions, determined what my car needed. He even talked me thru what the problem was in layman's term so that I could understand what the heck was happening. I just needed a recharge and did not need any additional work done like these other guys had told me. Jon didn't take Advantage of me not knowing anything about cars and straight up helped me. On top of that, he didn't charge the crazy prices either. It was afforded and fair for the work he did. Now I bring my car to Jon if I have any issues! You'd be a fool not to!
Dom has helped me with 5 of my vehicles over the past 10 years. Everything from simple oil changes and replacing brake pads to installing towing hitch systems, exhaust systems, power steering, suspensions, blown head gaskets, electrical, transmissions, radiators, air conditioning, heating, alternators and ignition systems. He has been working on automobiles since he was a young boy. He is extremely knowledgeable and doesn't mess around. If you need a job done on your vehicle, no matter what year, make or model, Dom can get it done. His prices are great and his location is easy to get to from all of the major roads, highways and boulevards in Philadelphia. I highly recommend Dom and Tom Auto Repair Service. Give them a call.
In my experience, Doan's is an exceptionally honest, skilled, and fast repair shop that charges reasonable prices. When I was in their shop on October 26, 2015, they turned away a more profitable customer who wanted to go ahead of me, but Doans' would not let them because I had arrived first. Other repair shops have made me wait so they could do the more profitable repair that came in after mine. That October 26 experience is yet more compelling evidence that Doan's has integrity. Doan's shop is very clean; it is almost as if they have a maid who cleans it every day. You would think that any auto repair shop would be covered with dirt and oil. I told Doan's owner that I would post a good review for him, so here it is.
They might be really good mechanics but they are also quite rude! Their parking area was full so I (yes knowingly) parked a little bit in front of the bay area hoping to get a quick word with their receptionist and ask her where to park my car. The main mechanic walks in and irritatedly asks about a car blocking the bay. When I told him my problem, he rudely tells me why can't I just park on the grass! Plus when I told hi my car may be having battery issues (I have had this problem before!) again he rudely says "who said this?" I may not know a lot about cars but I know MY car. After being subjected to such rudeness I won't come to this place again. They may have the expertise, just not basic human decency!!
I'm so thankful for Sigismondi's service. Last month I purchased a used car and there has been trouble with the ABS light appearing while I drive. Not really sure what was going on, they were recommended by a friend who stated they were keen on a vehicle's electrical systems. I'm glad I gave them a chance. Without being pushy, the owner Joe gave me insight on why the ABS light may be appearing and a quick description of what must be done to correct the problem. His knowledge of these automotive issues put my mind at ease. Also, the repair wasn't as costly as I expected. I will be returning and recommend anyone in the Philadelphia area to stop by this wonderful shop.
This shop is a wonderful place to go for Auto repair. I am a woman and I was treated with the upmost respect, they found issues with my vehicle after I gave a list of things I needed to be repair. I gotten a great price for the repairs and all the workmanship was done by one mechanic. He was polite and very knowledgeable about the condition my vehicle was in. I trusted his knowledge and skills. They completed the repairs promptly and my vehicle is driving really well. I recommend this shop for great service and respect for their customers. I trust them and will stay loyal to this shop.
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
