The stylists at Rama Braiding did an excellent job on my hair,my braids are very tight and neat. However, this is the only positive thing I can say about my experience. My stylist was not friendly and I was not greeted when I walked in the door, they all stared at me like I was an alien from another planet. One of the stylist tried to blow dry my hair (which was not even wet) without a heat protectant and they wanted my payment up front so they could get the kind of hair I wanted. (shouldnt they have had it in the salon already since I called 2 days ahead of time to let them know what kind of hair i wanted and style). Not to mention my stylist did not say one word to me or even attempt to make conversation until she realized I had an iphone and asked to use my charger, smh. Once she was done my hair she did not say "thank you, OR have a nice day". Rama is well worth it if you are willing to get your hair done somewhere where they know how to braid and want great quality, skill. However, if you are looking for friendly respectable customer service take your money elsewhere.

I went to Rama's today. They did an okay job on my Senegalese twist. The lady was a good braider, but she didn't do what I asked. It's not the size I wanted. I told them I didn't want big braids in the middle. Guess what, I have big braids in the middle. Some of the braids in the back are short and it looks like they will come loose soon. Overall, this place is okay. I would say don't try your luck here. I feel like I overpaid because of the big braids in the middle and short braids in the back. They do braid tight and I had to keep letting them know that I wanted all my hair in the braid. In the back half of my hair is out the braid. I noticed in the back she got a little careless. I'm not from Philly, but I've been to most of the African Braiding shops on N 5th Street, and I half were not good. I'll try South Philly next time. I won't go here again!
I had a fairly good experience at Rama I have been going to this salon for years; however there are a few things that I will never become accustomed to. 1 being I was quoted a price in person one day, and then when I returned to actually have services done another price was quoted. Secondly, the stylists are not customers service oriented (my braided was very kind) but the rest of the women speak in their dialect which can be somewhat offensive towards those who are not natives. The women also stare as someone mentioned previously luckily I'm not easily offended. In all I had a good experience at Rama and my braids were very neat and tight.
This salon is the best. Tru is very welcoming, she will hold a conversation with you the whole time. She tells you how to maintain your hair and what products you should use. She is very gifted in her hairstyles. My hair was very damaged and I've been avoiding a haircut for about a year now. Eventually I built up the courage to cut it. Tru did an amazing job and it is not a short as I expected. All of my hair length is still there. I received plenty of compliments on my hair. Right now I have my hair in a style called Rakes and I couldn't be happier, it looks brilliant. Tru is highly recommended.

I can't judge how great Tru is as a stylist because she didn't show up at her shop to our appointment. Granted, I was running errand and forgot my phone. There were 2 women sitting in her shop and one of them gave me the phone. Tru called to let me know the situation. I was understanding. Considering our appointment was at 12, received a call at 11:26, arrived at the shop and live across town like she does, I would have made it right for the customer, offering a discount.
The main reason why I gave 2 stars is because the cleanness somewhat and that they work with you in price. Other then that if you like uneven lengths and different braid size and bring your kids to work with them running all around you and hovering over you while eating their food then i say go for it. I also feel like my braids are going to unravel because they are not secure! I will never go here again!
I love this shop and everyone who works here. When you come in to get your hair done, they make you feel like family while they are doing your hair and teaching you how to better care for your hair in between visits. I encourage anyone who is looking for a great hair care experience to come to La Pearl...I promise you will be far from disappointed.
I called Tru at the last minute for my baby shower (2 days before). I was close to my due date and she was so nice she came all the way to New York from Philly to do my hair. She gave me touching cornrows and I was done in time for my baby shower. I had my son 4 days later. My hair lasted for 6 weeks.
