I have two Siberian Huskys both over 1 year old. I wanted to look into training and my friend told me about Hollywood Dog Training School. He has a great dane who had a great experience there, so I gave them a call.
I spoke with Rick who said I could stop by anytime with or without my dogs to see a demonstration.
I took both my dogs (Nanook and Neeko). Rick had one of his trainers show me another siberian husky that had been trained there previously and was currently boarding there. I think her name was Nikki. Even though the Nikki was trained over a year previously, she still knew ""all the moves"" and looked great. She did off leash heel, sit, sit stay, down, down stay, and recall. It was awesome. I signed up my dogs the same day.
My main goal was to be able to hike in the mountains with my huskies with no leash. I knew from researching, and almost every piece of literature that I read advised ""never take a husky off leash"" as they are born and bred to RUN. I decided to sign them up for training with a ""lets see how it goes"" attitude. I was hoping, but not expecting to be able to hike off leash.
My dogs were in training for about two months. They were trained by Mia and then by Diana. I visted them almost weekly and saw their progress. The trainers were awesome with the dogs! Both dogs were super happy and they really loved and respected their trainers, who loved the dogs as well :-)
Nanook and Neeko learned on and off leash, heel, sit, stay, down, and come, with different variations. They also learned NO. I couldn't believe how good they looked.
Before they came home, I had several lessons with Diana for both dogs. The dogs were ready, but she wanted to make sure that I was ready to handle them as well before they could come home. She didn't just tell me what to do, she explained why I was doing it and what the dogs were seeing from me.
On delivery day, Diana brought Nanook and Neeko to my home. I wanted to see how I would handle them on our hikes so we went to the mountain. I was a little nervous when the leashes came off but Diana was 100% confident and the dogs could sense that as well.
Both dogs did awesome! They never got more than 30 feet ahead of me without looking back for me. Nanook and Neeko had 1000 times more fun than they did on their leash. They were able to chase birds, rabbits and run to their hearts content. They both came immediately when I would call or blow my whistle. I was amazed. I am 100% confident that I will have no problems with them at all. It was also a ton easier for me, not having to struggle with two dogs on a leash.
I am so happy that I signed them up and it was worth every penny. I would recommend it to everyone!!

Being new to Los Angeles with a 7 month old German Shepard, we knew she was needing some training, but, had a dilemma on who?..I researched several different trainers in the area, and after a year of research and continued struggles of dealing with my precious Shepard, I decided on Hollywood Dog Training School. My husband and I had a weekend where Maggie spent a weekend with us out of town as she had many weekends, however this particular weekend we had left her crate behind, and when we left her in the hotel room, she commenced to tear up 2 bed pillows and a remote control (picture attached)
After such weekend we made a visit to HDTS, we expected to see the school and take Maggie home and make a decision to bring her back later,???????..NO we saw the School and a demonstration and let Maggie begin her transformation immediately!!
Rick and his trainers are so in tune with the dogs they train it is amazing to see how they work with each dog! Diana was Maggie?s trainer and she was the absolute perfect trainer for Maggie. Diana may only be a minute big, but she can handle any size dog, and she does it with skill, love and ease! But training our dog was not all we got from HDTS. They trained us, as well as made sure we were confidant in what our dog had learned and how to continue in the disciplines we both had learned. There isn?t a price you can put on the feeling you get from having a happy trained dog. We will be forever grateful for Rick impressing on us the importance to let our dog ?work? as she was intended to do! All I can say now is THANK YOU Rick and Diana!

I rescued my Irish setter from a shelter a few years and he was never trained. It was getting to the point where I had to do something with Shamus!!! Ever since I took him to Hollywood Dog Training School, he is now a properly behaved animal. :) I don't even have to lock him up anymore when I have guests come over!

I have been going here for years now. My dog loves the atmosphere and always comes home in a good mood. Where other dog walkers/groomers treat their ""clients"" just as a meal ticket, Johnny and Ty truly take an interest in knowing and caring for the the dogs in their care. I recommend them to everyone who cares about their pet. You really get your money

We left our two dogs for 9 days including July 4th.
The 8 month old Lab was happy to see us/ had learned the command ""down"" and if you know Labs they are very very
excitable but she was wagging tail and joyful but not hysterical as if anxious to ""lets-get-outta-here"". She was bathed and seemed to like her handler very much.
The 14 y/o Rhodesian Ridgeback/Sharpei mix is 80 lbs
with abandonment issues. The two dogs were in side by
side runs for company and were happy to be back with us.
These two dogs jump for joy and become a bit hysterical when we leave the house for a couple of hours so we were very happy about their calm.
The entire staff is genuinely efficient and helpful/ friendly.
Would absolutely recommend them and will happily
have our dogs stay again.
We feel very lucky to have found HDTS and it is the best investment we made for our dog.
We feed Hasko holistic food and the staff was eager to oblige. Hasko had a hot spot on his tail and they called me first then took him to the vet. Hasko gets to play with the other dogs when not in training.
We especially feel safe and secure with the staff and the owner Rick Karl who runs a tight ship. Rick and his staff are detail oriented and make the best effort to make sure the dogs are safe while boarding.
Anyone who is a responsible dog owner will be grateful to take their dog to HDTS. We recommend them highly.
I have searched high and low for an affordable kennel with a great reputation - and this is it! My high-maintenance goober was well taken care of while I scurried off to Las Vegas this year. Upon my return, I found that he did not want to leave when I went to pick him up. Seems he was so happy there, going back home with me was just not in the cards!
Everyone is friendly, and extremely helpful! And if you're looking for a leash or tug-toy - they have those for sale in their lobby at prices MUCH lower than your standard pet suppy superstore. You can't go wrong here!

My lab terrier mix was suspended from doggie daycare because he was aggressive with the other dogs and would not respond appropriately to staff commands. It was highly suggested that we seek training for him. My husband had heard about Hollywood Dog Training School through a friend and had heard stories that sounded similar to the diffiiculties we had with Roscoe. Although I was highly against sending him away to be trained, once I made a visit there I knew this was the place for him. We brought him back the next day and he remained there for six weeks. We visited him several times and while he was happy to see us and as loving as ever he seemed very happy with his buddies at HDTS. The staff is so caring and understand each dog individually. Our trainer, Diana commanded Roscoe""s respect and ours as well. She was so patient with me, each time I came for my obedience training, as I felt I was not 'the quickest to get it trainee' they ever had. Now whenever I am walking him I am so proud that I am also a graduate of HDTS and that he responds so naturally to my commands. When I took him back to daycare they said they could see 100 percent change in his behavior.

My dog Riley just graduated from Hollywood Dog Training and now one week later I am writing this review with gratitude and the highest praise for HDT. Riley, while being a wonderful dog at home had developed a bad (and scary) habit of running away from me on our daily hikes out in the Tujunga Wash. I had the choice to walk him on leash, while he pulled and cried out to play with the other dogs or let him off the leash and risk him disappearing for hours. I was referred to HDT by a former client who came across me while I was frantically searching for Riley one morning. She said, ?Call Rick Karl at Hollywood Dog Training ? trust me, it?ll change your life!?
I called Rick that afternoon and after he explained the program and told me that Riley would have to be ?in board? for up to 8 weeks, I had two fears ? 1) entrusting my beloved dog to other people for two months and 2) I didn?t want my playful, loving, exuberant dog to become a ?robo-dog? that dutifully marched along next to me ? I wanted Riley to be able to have fun and enjoy a full life ? I just wanted him to come back when I called him. Rick assured me all would be well and upon my first visit after 10 days ? I knew he was right. Watching Riley interact with his trainer Diana was a joy ? he bounced and pranced and wagged his tail whenever she asked him to do anything ? he enjoyed the work! And I could really tell that the whole staff from owner Rick to trainers Diana and Sarita to the kennel and front desk staff seem to really love what they do and take good care of the animals in their charge.
After six weeks ? I started my lessons with Riley and I can?t say enough about Diana. Her enthusiasm and confidence in her skill really shines through and we all really had fun learning together. Our training including field trips to the dog park and to the Empire Mall and finally a home visit where Diana joined us out in the Wash and I was able to confidently let my dog loose to run and play. Diana made sure that both Riley and I had the tools we need to handle any situation. Just this morning we were out on our hike and I spotted a girl I know walking her rather out of control shepherd mix on a leash ? he was pulling and dragging and lunging ? Riley ran toward him to play but I blew my magic whistle, he turned on a dime, circled around me and heeled perfectly as we walked by. The girl said,?Wow, that?s impressive, I?m jealous!? and I said, ?Call Hollywood Dog Training, Trust me it will change your life!?

A friend recommended Rick at Hollywood Dog Training, she had great results with three dogs. I went with my year and a half old jindo rescue to check it out. the kennels were clean, the staff happy and helpful. I signed up and 4 weeks later i had a happy and well trained dog. our walks are a pleasure. I found Rick and his staff very caring and real animal lovers.

I used these guys about 2 years ago. So why am I taking the time to write a review now? Because I miss them sooooo much! I'm no longer living in CA and I've had to board my cats twice at the only place I knew of around where I live now. I just dropped my cats off today and I am absolutely traumatized, so I finally searched for some other places because I am NEVER going back to Rob Cary Pet Resort.
Hollywood Dog Training School (aside from their anti-feline name) were so good to me and my 2 best buddies! At least, there was one girl there (whose name I forget - SORRY!) who you could tell absolutely adored cats and loved her job. And she was extremely kind to me as well. Overall, because of her, I was very happy with HDTS and I wish I had them where I'm living now! :o(
Experienced staff, big place for dogs to run and play.
Everybody is extremly nice, polite . I like the place because it's not concrete and fake grass like most daycares.
Training and grooming is also available.
I just moved to the other part of the city and don't find anything as good as this place. So I drive because my dog loves this place and I feel safe when I leave my dog there.
Experienced, professonal staff, very nice people.
The best place, excellent service.
Great place for dogs to play, run under supervision.
I moved to the other part of LA and don't find anything close to it.
It is an hour drive now but I take my dog there because he likes it and I feel safe.
Training and grooming is also great.

I left my very happy and healthy 7 year old small dog just for the weekend and he died within a few days. They pretended like they had no idea what happened to him, which is scary to think that your pet would be under such little, if any, supervision. Please be careful, I don't want this to happen to anyone else. They showed no remorse regarding the situation.

If my dogs could write this review they would give four paws up! I have two Yorkies, both have been trained at HDTS -- best investment ever, I feel so comfortable boarding my babies with their second family. We have also been able to take advantage of the new doggy daycare, where we are regulars. Do not hesitate to bring your babies too, the only better place for them to be is with you; and everyone at HDTS will answer your crazy doggy parent questions without passing judgement.
I adopted an abandoned year old lab. She had been dumped on the road and had little manners. I had so much difficulty in handling her I thought I might have to find her a new home. Then I was referred to Rick at Hollywood Dog Training, within 6 weeks the staff had taught her manners and obedience. A wonderful dog emerged, she is now an angel. The staff is wonderful and caring. They listen to you and are always there for you. Maggie goes to their Doggie Day Care and has a blast. It gives her a chance to run, play and socialize under excellent supervision. I can't recommend them enough, they are lifesavers. When my daughter went into hospital on an emergency and someone needed to take care of Maggie they went to the house and collected her for me.
