Virginia State Police, operational for more than 75 years, is a state department that provides law enforcement and other regulatory services, such as crime prevention and investigations, patrolling, drug enforcement and control, and traffic regulation and investigations. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Virginia State Police is affiliated with the Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and Virginia Department of Emergency Management. Virginia State Police intervenes in cases of domestic violence and provides information and assistance to victims. Its investigators interview people, gather documents and evaluate facts related to various crimes.
