If you are reading reviews for potential dance studios first decide what it is you are looking for in a studio. No matter how many reviews you read understand that ALL studios will have pros and cons. TDC really does provide ALL students no matter the level a chance to perform. They have some really special people as part of their office staff who promote a positive environment. TDC will expose your child to conventions, competitions, local performances, and multiple studio bonding activities. Other than the younger classes or specialty classes there are little to no recreation classes to dance for fun, therefore if you choose TDC most likely your child will be exposed to competition and it is a great place to get your feet wet. If your child really desires to be part of a really competitive dance studio and is an advance level dancer or would like to be this studio may not be the best fit. This is a smaller studio which routines primarily compete in beginner and intermediate levels of competition. While nothing is wrong with competing in these levels as they are for students who are NEW to the dance world who take few hours a week in dance. The amount of time and money you are going to spend to compete at this level at TDC may become questionable over time if true competition is your first priority. Most of the choreography is done by one person (the owner) therefore multiple routines have the same moves that are recycled quite frequently. Another con is that the teaching staff has a very high turnover therefore the chance to build student teacher relationships that truly promotes growth over time is minimal. Additionally other than one staff member who works there part time, the teaching staff nice as they are, have little dance education credentials. Dance bios are essentially résumés so read them and decide if you are OK with paying an instructor to teach your child and being responsible for your child’s dance education. While previously traveling and performing with professional dance companies and/ or a degree in dance education does not automatically make you a good instructor, it may assist with bringing something a little extra to a very expensive time consuming extracurricular activity. Overall the studio has great potential, good parents, good kids and good intentions. The studio is a great way to be a part of an extended family and offers many opportunities to see your child on the dance stage, however if exposing your dancer to a truly dance technique focused dance education by multiple qualified experienced staff with innovative choreography in ALL genres of dance this studio may fall short of your expectations.

Our kids dance on the competition team and enjoy it most of the time. The team is large and its hard for your child to stand out but they are the best team we have saw in our area. The instruction is excellent and the teachers are good. Studio is modrn an clean. Studio has new dance store connected to it but some items are overpriced. We are switching to another studio next year cause there's alot of gossip among the favoured parents. The teachers try to keep this secret but some of the parents are gossip queens so it always gets out. One student was having an attitude problem and they blamed it on the parents??? It wasn't a home problem it was a studio problem. The best dancers get preferential treatment and all the students are aware of it. Some of the wealthier parents also try to buy favour by giving elaborate gifts for holidays and other occasions. I think the studio should limit gifts from students and parents. It puts them at an unfair advantage and no matter what anyone says about being fair to everyone if one child gives all her teachers gifts those students are favored. Our family can't compete with all that. Teachers also talk about their favourite students in front of other students. One example is when my daughters wanted to do different things one of the star dancers couldn't do it either, but the dance was changed just so the star dancer COULD do it. Instead of giving another girl a chance the star dancer was automatically given the lead and it was changed so she could do it. It didn't matter that other girls could do the easier part too. The star must be the star! My husband tried to address some of the unfair favoritism in a nice way with one of the teachers but of course he was in the wrong and then he was chided about how to parent our child better. They don't post a pyramid like the one Abby Lee Miller uses but the dancer hierarchy exists in secret and is obvious when you see the same five girls in the spotlight for every dance. The owner is nice but the favouritism has caused our girls to come home in tears and that is not what I'm paying for. If not for the great instruction I would give 1 star.
My daughter has been dancing at The Dance Company for the last four years. The amount of growth I’ve seen in her during that time has been beyond remarkable and it’s truly due to the dedication of the teachers and staff at TDC. My daughter was given a chance to “shine” that she may not have received at other studios and as a result has developed a passion/love and ability for dance that even has me in awe. Ms. Charyl (the owner) has a special skill for identifying the unique strengths in each of her students and bringing them out so that each child gets the chance to push themselves beyond even what they think is possible . Under her direction not only has my daughter become a skilled dancer but I’ve seen her develop a self confidence and dedication that carries over into other areas of her life as well. The staff at TDC also treats the kids as their family – it’s one of the few places that I can drop my child off and know that she will be watched after and protected as if I was there. From Grams (Ms. Charyl’s mom), to the front office staff to the dance instructors to the students – my daughter truly does feel like she has an extended family. Ms. Charyl even arranges outing for the kids to get together and bond outside of the studio. As a result, my daughter has friendships with other dancers she has bonded with that I know will last a lifetime. Ms. Charyl also requires the kids to show the same commitment to academics as well. Kids can’t participate in the competition teams unless they are maintaining their grades in school and she even has them bring in their report cards!!! All in all – I couldn’t ask for a better dance studio to send my daughter to (as evidenced by this book of a review – smile).
My daughter has danced at Miller Street for seven years. She started out at the Providence studio in Charlotte taking regular classes, but eventually wanted to dance competitively. She joined the Competition Team at the Baxter Village location in Ft. Mill, S.C. three years ago and absolutely loves it. Miller Street is so much more than a dance studio - it is a safe and nurturing place where our daughter has learned many valuable life lessons: acts of service, a love for her community and those in need, the importance of honesty, integrity, hard work, perseverance, teamwork, respect, personal responsibility, patience, and having a positive attitude. While our daughter has learned to dance from some of the best instructors in the business, she has also made friends and grown to love being a part of the competition team. Miller Street Dance Academy has become her home away from home. The teachers and staff are highly professional, and the studio is well-maintained. In the words of my husband, the studio is managed like a well-oiled machine. Students and parents are expected to behave kindly toward one another - gossip simply is not tolerated. This expectation creates a wonderful, inviting environment where dancers and their families truly feel welcome and part of a team. Our Competition Team has received various awards, but one of the proudest moments for me as a parent, was the award the team received for good sportsmanship this year at Nationals! My daughter loves being a part of this amazing dance studio, and as a Mom, I am so thankful that I can entrust her to such amazing and talented dance professionals! I highly recommend Miller Street Dance Academy and just can't say enough great things about them!
Our daughter started at The Dance Company the day the studio opened...it has been an amazing experience for her. Her individual growth has blown us away!!! Her technique and skills have advanced beyond our expectations. Our son is also involved in B-Boy and Hip Hop Classes at TDC. His confidence has grown, and he is more and more comfortable each time he performs. TDC gives all of the dancers the opportunity to take classes that will help them grow as both individuals and on a team. This proper mix of classes is what we believe has helped our children build on the dance skills they have mastered and encourages them to continue to grow. In addition to advancing their dance skills, our children now have a HUGE extended family at TDC. They are looked out for and loved by the owner, staff and other TDC Parents. The atmosphere is one that is full of support for ALL dancers regardless of their level or number of years dancing. The dancers truly care for one another and want to see each other succeed and will help each other do so. We highly recommend TDC for your dancer.
My daughter was taking dance at another studio and upon the recommendation of a very good friend we joined the TDC family and that is just what we are at TDC, A FAMILY. Ms Charyl, the owner is very friendly and cares about all of her dancers and calls each of them by name. Gram (Ms. Charyl mother,) shares her wisdom not only with us as parents, but all of our children are her grandchildren. I know that if I have to leave my child she is safe and I don't have to worry about her. TDC exudes energy and a spirit of togetherness, which I felt I did not have at our previous studio. When you walk in the studio you would not know the difference between those of us that have been there one year and those that have been there since the doors open. My daughter's love for dance is apparent, from the time we get there until the time I have to coax her into leaving, because she has to see the big girls dance. Make Your Dancer's Dream Come True at The Dance Company.
Steps N Motion is an awesome dance Studio. Steps N Motion is first of all a fun, welcoming studio. My child felt comfortable there from the first visit. The experience of making friends outside her school and neighborhood circle has been enriching for her, and her fellow dancers have become some of her closest friends. The teachers are talented, knowledgeable and encouraging, and know how to bring out the best in each and every student. My daughter is on the competition team, which has provided many opportunities for personal growth, not to mention travel and lots of fun. But we also have friends who are in the recreational program who are extremely happy with their experience. The experience of dancing at Steps N Motion has helped to mold my daughter into the talented, gracious young lady that she is today. If you want a really good dance experience for your child, go with StepsNMotion. You will be happy you did!
I am a grandmother of 10 and 7 of my grandchildren danced at The Dance Company last year. Four in the competition program and 3 in the recreational program. This is a great, family oriented studio. My granddaughters have been on the competition team for 3 years and they get better and better each year. The owner, Miss Charyl is loving and caring to each and every student in her studio. She cares about their grades and listens to any problems they might have in or out of the studio. Her mom (Gram) is a big part of the studio. She is also very loving and caring to all the students. Any problems with costumes just ask Gram and she will help you. One of my granddaughters danced with Miss Charyl before she opened her own studio and she has continued to grow unbelievably at TDC. If you want your child to dance at a loving and caring studio this is the place to be.
TDC is part of our extended family! What a wonderful environment our daughter has had to grow and to thrive as a dancer and as an individual! We have been a part of The Dance Company since day one and cannot imagine being at any other studio. The family atmosphere and genuine friendships developed between families and dancers makes this studio THE place to be! Miss Charyl is absolutely wonderful in the way that she works with the dancers, encouraging them to give and be their best. She is thorough in her communication with parents and always provides an open door and line of communication. The office staff at TDC is second to none. Gramm and the office assistants make it possible for us as parents to leave our children and know that they are in safe hands! What a wonderful place to be a part of.
After relocating to the Charlotte area we made it our quest to find a studio that was as close to a perfect match for our daughter. She was on a competition team in another state and therefore we hoped to maintain her level of dance. After visitng with several other studios we happily seleced Steps and thus began our two year love for its staff and students. She has been in receipt of outstanding instruction and technique. With their guidance she has taken on other forms of dance to which she previously hadn't taken an interest in. The staff offered not only strength in the art of dance but in commitment, character and comraderie. I would suggest that everyone take a moment to visit and see what makes this studio a step above.
