Newport Cafe

Wow great food, the best clam chowder ever!! The waitress at Mo"s recommended this place :) I am so glad she did as it is a small cafe appearing diner. We had steamer clams that were so fresh they were almost talking, also delicious shrimp and crab cocktails, we were so stuffed when we left that we brought back to the hotel strawberry shortcake that was to die for. Prices are extremely reasonable. The menu had a big selection of delights. A woman next to us had a big plate of deep fried cod that she said was delicious! Staff was wonderful, funny and entertaining, we will be back for sure. They had a big varied menu I think we will drive the 22 miles back Thursday to have breakfast and get some of that luscious clam chowder to bring back to eastern Oregon with us!!

Pretty good food very friendly service and food came fast but It was also 5:30 am and I was the only customer.

My niece and her friends were recently visiting and had gone to eat at Newport Cafe with their children. Some of the staff were not only rude to them, but also took over an hour and a half to get their food. When they went to pay using a pre-paid credit card, it was run wrong 3 times. They asked if there was an ATM on the premises and told no. They tried to pay by check but were told they couldn't. The police were called on my niece and her friends, and she called me at 10:00 pm to bring money or they would go to jail. While I was on my way, the credit card was run again in front of an officer, and they found out the staff had been doing it wrong. The card paid. There was no apology from any of the staff, they were handed their boxes of food and told to leave. All around I don't think the staff handled this situation very well. I wish they had been more patient before involving police and jumping to the wrong conclusions, or at least apologized for the misunderstanding. It was not a good experience for me or them.
