I lived there for 1 full year and here are the pro and cons of Park Place:Pro-Nice, Clean Fountain Park. You can play Pokemon Go there.Relatively new building. Lots of doors for some reason.Con-ROACHES. A 2in roach fell on top of me while I was sleeping. In another instance, a 1.5in bug fell on my girlfriend while she was sleeping. Hidden Fees. Apparently there is a random $125 fee for moving out. Paid it anyways because I moved to a better establishment. There is also a 10% late payment fee.Management. They were very nice when they were showing me the apartment. Not very friendly when you are a renter. This is consistent with other reviewers.Noise. I lived next to the garage. Cars are always revving up at 1:00am. I woke up to it even though I am a deep sleeper.Misled my coworker. They told her that there was a free one month promotion. When she renewed for lease, they told her the promotion was over. Coworker lost $1400 on the mix up.Note to future renters: Good luck! Beware of roaches in the vents and/or while you sleep.
My friend Shelby that is currently staying here with her husband and their 2 kids, a 3 month old and a 1 year old. Her family has been without Air Condition since April of this year. They have made numerous attempts in contacting management to have their AC fixed. Since April, the management office has had their maintenance team come out to fix the problem and it was not resolved. They also had someone from corporate come out a few days ago to fix the problem and it was still not resolved. They had addressed to the management office of they could switch to another apartment that has AC and was told they would need to pay a move fee of $300. This is not right and unfair to this family
Overall I would like to give River Mews a 5-star. We had ups and downs during our stay but mostly it was good. Old management is really good whereas new hires I don't like them much. Place is clean, quite and safe. The only problem I had was bathrooms are small but that is my personal opinion. If you have any maintenance request they never gave us any problem, you ask for maintenance and mostly within same day it is done. Signing lease and move-out was simple and easy. Would definitely recommend it to my friends. :)
Ditto to everything Samuel.david below said. I'm paying $1,200/month to listen to what sounds like a herd of elephants walking over my head. I get NO sleep at all here. The thumping overhead starts at 10:00pm every night and starts back up at 7:30am...even on weekends. I complained to the office and they said it was "just apartment living Mrs. Mann, you will just have to get used to it". STAY away from Park Place...not worth the money!!
Worst place I have ever rented from. Roach problems, mold in the closets. Had other apartments flood into mine 3 times, making the carpet smell so bad that it made my husband, myself and my 2 pets sick. When we finally moved they tried to nail us with a $900 bill for ripping out the carpet and installing a new one. Now I get to fight them over that while it marks my credit. Stay away from Monarch Crossing/ aka Morgan Properties in Newport News, VA!!
So often people only take the time to express their concerns about a business on a review. I believe that a standout place deserves the same time. Park Place Apartments in Oyster Point City Center is one of those places. The location speaks for itself, with an abundance of dining and shopping options within walking distance. I've lived all over Newport News and have never felt safer than I do walking around Oyster Point. The buildings require a key entry and parking is gated to further ensure safety. The complex has all the facilities you would look for in a luxury apartment, and added activities to make renters feel at home. The ladies at the leasing office are very pleasant and welcoming, while the maintenance staff is efficient and eager to assist. When we moved in, the apartment was spotless--not a mark on the walls or a stain on the carpet. The rental prices may seem expensive at first glance, but are actually quite comparable to other luxury apartments in Newport News. Plus, they offer discounts to certain employers and on specific units. I certainly recommend Park Place, and I find it disappointing to see so many unhappy reviews. Apartment living can be tough. I always choose the top floor to prevent having someone heavy footed above me, but if you do, you have to understand that there's only so much the leasing office can do to help. We have neighbors on both sides of our apartment, and rarely ever hear anything. As I mentioned, only those with an issue generally take the time to post a review. If you are tired of mediocre apartment living, give Park Place a call. You will be impressed.
I have been living at Park Place for 4 years and my rent has stayed the same . I have enjoyed living here and have had no problems with the office staff .
For the cost of rent ($1300), this place is not worth it. Every night I was kept up late from the neighbors above us. After making several complaints the office said they could do nothing about it. There always seemed to be construction or loud events outside that residents were never warned of. The people in the office give you the run-around, going back on things they tell you and conveniently "forgetting" times you contacted them about issues. Moving out was the worst experience I have ever had with an apartment complex, and I have lived in several. You must give 60 days notice and then they will charge you for every little thing that isn't cleaned exactly how they liked. I scrubbed my bathroom with bleach until it was perfect, but I'm being charged $100 because they found a hair in the bathroom and there was a drip under the sink in the kitchen. The whole experience has been infuriating. They only want your money, and will find any way to get it. I have warned all of my friends and family about this place, and I am determined to let everyone know about these issues so they aren't miserable like I was! The shops nearby are nice but the limited parking and all of the other issues hardly make it worth it.
I would NOT recommend this place - have been here less than two months and its awful !! When signing for keys - made to change apartments - no for warning at all- very unprofessional and a real pain with setting up utilities and changing addresses that were all set for other apt. ! A/C and dishwasher broke within first 2 weeks, have to keep A/C at 71 just to maintain comfort ,noise from residents above us unbearable - notified office ............ no change. No designated parking - they make it seem when inquiring about apt , that there are enough spaces in the internal lot for 2 cars per apt - count the number of apt.s and spaces yourself - lucky to even find parking at times. And as for security - a total joke - front door to building locked but all people have to do is walk around to OPEN parking lot - parking lot gate SUPPOSE to close at 8 pm at night. Have lived heer 6 weeks and complained to office twice about gate not closing. This am discovered two of our bicycles were stolen- lock cut and bikes gone sometime between 7/11/13 and 7/14/2013. My advice choose else where - you will be happy you did!!!!!!!!!!
Been living here since Nov 2012 and hadn't discovered a leak in our ceiling until December when water started dripping through a hole in the the ceiling every time we would shower. Did notice that there was prior ceiling damage that was poorly patched up. We called about the water leak which they came out and recaulked the tub and it seemed like the leak stopped for a while until we noticed it again the next month which again I called and complained of the leak and the ever growing hole that was taken place in our ceiling. They did the same motions of re-caulking the tub which did not stop the leak. After the 3rd or 4th call and the maintenance men doing the same routine I called the main office to express my dis satisfaction and concern. They seemed to want to help and came out to the apartment to look at the leak. Then left it to the maintenance man to fix the problem. The same men who were not doing the job right in the first place. By this time it was Feb 2013 and all this time the leak in the ceiling was taken place. The maintenance man said he was waiting on a part or materials and that he'd be in the following Friday. It is now April 2013 and had not heard from that maintenance man until I called to complain of something else. We'd see the same maintenance man outside and the office staff (whenever we'd pay rent) who did not express any concern on the leak that was still taking place. The maintenance man surely knew that he did not fix the problem and yet would smile and say hi to my husband whenever he'd see him. The office staff did not do a follow up to see if the job was taken care of. The 2nd thing I called to complain about was a leak in a faucet that started to take place. After waiting about a day I called the maintenance line to see why they hadn't come out to fix it yet knowing that this leak is costing my husband and I extra $. They told me it is a routine check and it could take a maintenance man up to 72 hrs to come out and fix it. How can a leak be a routine check when it is costing us money and THEY ARE NOT GOING TO HELP US PAY THE WATER BILL. After hearing this I called the office to express my dissatisfaction with everything. I called earlier that same week to have someone fix my ac unit which worked fine for a few hours after they came to repair it and then stopped working. (The maintenance man walked right past the hole in our ceiling to repair this) This time the office staff did the same routine came out to apartment made the maintenance man re-caulk the tub and fix the leaky faucet. They also had a plumber who found out why the leak in the ceiling was taking place and instead of having the plumber fix it. They allow the same maintenance man to fix the problem. Let's see if this works. My ac unit was also looked at and again it worked for 3hrs and stopped. Please save yourself a headache and move somewhere worth your money. These people push the blame onto everyone else. Office Staff blame maintenance department yet do not follow up on jobs to make sure they are done and done correctly (Isn't that an Apartment Manager's Job?) or put bad memory to blame. But explain to me how can someone say they are going to be back to fix something and then after seeing us plenty of times how can it not jog their memory. Simply put the maintenance men do not care. It is not my job to call and keep on calling to have them fix problems that they know they had not fixed. But it seems like that is what I have to do to get something fixed around here. Not only is this a problem but some nights the neighbors blare music all night even on weekdays. I've woken up to neighbors yelling and fighting at 5 or 6 in the morning. Can hear it all through my bedroom wall. Sometimes my son's room smells of cigarette smoke and pot. Do not move here this place is not worth your time and especially not worth your money.
