We met Dr. Cohen and his team when we were on vacation and our 15-year-old Jack Russell was in distress. We truly thought we would be saying our good-byes to our furry friend. We phoned the veterinary clinic closest to where we were staying and they were "too busy", so we called THIS wonderful clinic and not only could they see us, but they called back 15 minutes after we booked an appointment to let us know they had a cancellation and we could come in right away.
Dr. Cohen and his compassionate staff were phenomenal. They were able to stabilize our dog and make her comfortable. Once we returned to AZ, out little girl improved and is still with us. We understand she is a senior dog and we are into bonus days, but if it were not for Dr. Cohen and his team we would have already said our farewell.

Seriously Awesome Vet!

This is pretty much my pets second home. I seriously do not have the words to describe the care you get from everyone here. This is a pet owners/lovers place and you will know from the moment you walk in the door. I have been a client here for over a year now and will never go anywhere else. I live over 25 miles from here but can tell you that it is worth it. Found them on the Internet if you can believe that then 2 other people I met randomly recommended Dr. Cohen so it was fate. My boys and even one I had to put to rest all love it there. Everyone there is awesome and super friendly and for sure will never steer you in the wrong direction. Dr. Cohen is really a genius. Seriously, folks, he has that kind of IQ but the nicest guy you'll ever want to meet. When I see him when I come in with my crazy dogs, he always has a joke or a way about him that makes you feel you are safe and in the best hands. He is a multi-pet owner himself and knows the many breeds in and out. He also is certified as a specialist and one of the best vets to ever come out of the veterinary school at UCDavis, plus he rides motorcycles so you know he must be very cool. Dr. Cohen even tweets so check him out @NewportVet.

This place is seriously awesome and I honestly can say I love coming there. It really is as good as it gets.

Take your diabetic cat to Dr. Jeffrey Cohen!

I tell everyone I know who has a diabetic cat to take their cat to Dr. Jeffrey Cohen at Newport Beach Veterinary Hospital.

We rescued Oscar, who is half Ocicat and half Manx at 4 months old. Of course we brought him to Dr. Jeffrey Cohen. In 1999, we moved to Oregon for 18 months on business. While there, we took Oscar to a local vet to have his annual shots and annual teeth cleaning.
I was horrified to get a call from the vet, advising me that they had removed one of Oscar's front saber teeth and wanted permission to remove others.
I told them 'No'. I was alarmed that they would remove a tooth and I questioned the necessity since Oscar was only a few years old.

When I returned home and took Oscar to see Dr Jeffrey Cohen he told me that Oscar's teeth looked fine.
Oscar is now almost 14 years old and hasn't lost a tooth under Dr. Cohen's care.

Here's a perfect example of Dr. Jeffrey Cohen being on the cutting edge of what is going on in veterinarian medicine:
In June of 2009, Oscar became diabetic and was taking insulin shots twice a day. Dr. Cohen suggested that we try a new diabetic reversal diet.
Oscar went on the diet and later Deborah Cohen was elated to inform us that Oscar's diabetes was officially reversed!
That's right! Officially reversed!

Oscar is totally off insulin and runs around the house like a kitten!
It is such a tremendous joy not to have to give my cat insulin shots twice a day!

I don't know who is more appreciative, me or Oscar!

Dr. Cohen is a great Veterinarian!

My husband and I won't go anywhere else but Newport Beach Vet Hospital. We tried a couple of places closer to home when we moved from Newport Beach to San Juan Capistrano, but the care wasn't as good. Not even close. Dr. Cohen, Deborah, and the staff in Newport Beach go above and beyond the call of kindness and proficiency. Dr. Cohen literally saved one of our cats when the cat was nearly dead--still & not breathing. Dr. Cohen and his wife are an amazing, kind, patient, gentle, and gifted team and Deborah stays with our pets overnight when they have surgery or are sick so we can sleep. I cannot say enough great things about this place. In a sentence, we drive a half hour in traffic for up to an hour in order to have our pets seen by the skilled Dr. Cohen (and yes, we have jobs and full lives, too. So, an hour is precious time). What does that say about this place? WORTH IT!

MY 5 STAR PICK! Dr. Cohen is a GEM!

I have sent folks to Dr Cohen exclusively for several years because he is incredibly smart, willing to work with people, and a great (famous) vet. Several friends and co-workers have come to me with dilemmas that they could not afford a certain surgery on their cat/dog and were looking at putting the animal down. Everyone has always called me back advising how wonderful Dr. Cohen & staff were, working with them even on the most complex and expensive surgeries and cancer treatments. More importantly everyone is thrilled he was just really a nice guy who loved animals. One friend could not believe his dog liked him as he has bitten his last 2 vets! In this world of large vet clinics with a dozen or more vets on staff who appear to be impersonal and basically just a business - it is refreshing to find this small practice who treat you and your pet as though they matter and truly seem to care about the clients and animals. I will always be taking my dogs and cats to Dr Cohen and have found him very knowledgeable and experienced and wonderfully human. And I realize I am probably the client from hell sometimes when I'm upset about a sick pet and he was still nice and his staff always make me calm! You''l be safe with these people.

Cool to go here.

I've been super happy w/ this vet for the little dude. Cohen is a crack up for a smart guy. I'm shocked that parking has never been an issue w/ it's location on Coast Highway and that damn construction.

Every single staff member there has always been great. As in they actually seem to enjoy working there. I don't even get that at the doctor I've been going to since I was 13.

Probably the best part is that they are very good, complete but not pushy about anything when lil buddy needs to go get a booster or what not.

So basically I like my vet better than I like my own primary care givers. Sweet. Hmmm.... I wonder what they'd charge to take care of me.....

The Best Of The Best

I have to confess that Dr. Cohen is the ONLY vet that I have used since 1970. At that time, I had a cat who was difficult to treat and I was told by several vets that I should put him down. Dr. Cohen saved the day and the cat lived to be 18 years old, thanks to Dr. Cohen.

He is an excellent diagnostician, much of his work is from other vets who don't have his training or expertise or even really care about the pet or the owners. Everyone that I have referred to him have made him their permanent vet. When I drop one of the dog's off for anything, I know that they are in the best possible hands. I trust him implicitly.

The staff is courteous, professional and quick to ask if you would like coffee while you wait. I only wish that I could find a physician for myself that I felt as comfortable with and trust like Dr. Cohen

We always feel at home here!

The people at Newport Vet were so helpful when we left our regular vet after another vet told us the first vet had misdiagnosed our little dog (complicated). The second vet told us Dr. Cohen was the smartest vet around! We stay and keep using Dr. Cohen for the professionalism and knowledge of the doctor. They have responded quickly to all my concerns and questions about my dog's health. They were compassionate and gave us our options with our cat also. Their clinic is sparkling clean, high-tech capabilities but friendly. All of the people are nice, capable and attentive to both pets and their owners. I highly recommend this vet clinic. Dr. Cohen really listened to what I was saying. I truly felt like he cared, and more important, he is smart and knows what he's talking about! I had a bad experience elsewhere where the vet was nice but turned out he wasn't smart. At Newport Beach Vet, they were willing to work with us and get our pets the best care they needed.

Dr. Cohen is a GREAT VET and SUPER HUMAN BEING!

Dr. Cohen is a true SAINT!: Dr. Cohen has been helping me with my cats for over 13 years now. I can't tell you how much he has meant to the lives of so many unwanted and unloved animals in our community as well as those lucky ones that are family members. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be able to afford helping any of these poor souls from spaying and neutering to dental care. He has never turned me away even though he is always very busy with other patients; when I come in on my ""emergencies"" to see him on his already previously booked schedule but he is so worth it! You get a specialist veterinarian for the price of a regular one. The girls at the front desk are always helpful and do their best to keep up with his hectic schedule. I love Dr. Cohen and his staff and hope he's around forever.

My cat and I love this vet!

My experiences with this vet have been excellent. I went to so-called ""cat experts"" at ""cat clinics"" only to find they are not really experts but just confine their services to cats. Does anyone know this? I was referred to Dr. Cohen by a ""dog person"" who said he was a real specialist-type vet. This was lucky for me and my cat. My cat had been throwing up off and on for more than 2 months and after a few thousand $'s with the ""cat clinics"" and limited results, the good doctor here has my cat back to himself. It turns out my boss uses this vet, too and raves about him also for her Pug dog.

This Doctor is Smart, Hardworking, Dedicated professional.

I haven't had a pet of any kind for many years and I took my dog to various vets over the last 8 months until I was told (wrongly) by a local guy that my Labrador Retriever had hip problems called dysplasia. My dog had never had a problem walking, running or jumping for the ball. My breeder far away in San Diego recommended I get another opinion and to go see "Dr. Jeff Cohen in Newport Beach" and then I asked another Lab person and they said "Dr. Cohen in Newport Beach"---seems they have an amazing reputation. I really enjoyed the experience--the staff was great and although they were very busy, they served me coffee and helped ease my mind. This doctor couldn't have been better! The other vet's x-rays were not straight and Dr. Cohen showed me easily on his x-rays that my dogs hips were okay and just to be sure, Dr.Cohen sent them off to a place to be certified and they came back "Excellent." When I think that another vet wanted my pooch to have unnecessary and expensive surgery she didn't need---aaaargh! This is now my regular veterinarian forever and my dog loves going in to this place. I'm just so happy I found Dr. Jeff Cohen and his great team.

it's been 3 weeks and still no word!

I have been to this once in the past for xrays of hips on our BC. The office is very clean and the staff are very friendly. We did not meet with Dr. Cohen as there really was no need at that time. Recently we went in for more xrays, hips and knees and back as our BC at times would limp. Again very clean office and a great front office staff. This time we did meet with Dr. Cohen was very polite and gave us the time of day where our dog was concerned. Upon several xrays the Dr. reccomended blood work so i agreed even though our pet does see our regular vet on a regular basis.

He also wanted to send the knee xray to be read by a radiologist. Well 3 weeks have past and no follow up from the doctor, or his office about the knee xray or the blood work. We dropped over 800.00 and feel that we probably paid for several phone bills of the good doctor, so why were we not given a call? I could not tell you, i have called the office twice and still no info on the expensive tests given by the good doctor. no news can be good news, and it can be neglected news as well. Maybe there is a good reason, I do not know but i probably would not go back or reccomend for the lack of follow. We also drove all the way from San Diego not that that means much, but we thought we were getting the best. The "YOU get what you pay for" is not always the truth.

Still waiting in San Diego!

claimed iconBusiness Response03/21/2009

We very much appreciate that this client came AGAIN from San Diego to see us. We appreciate the kind things said about our hospital and Dr. Cohen. In fact, this owner was represented an "agent" (the actual owner did NOT come to our hospital) and it was the agent that we communicated with that the many radiographs (X-Rays) would be sent to a Specialist Radiologist at the OFA (Orthopedic Foundations for Animal) for a detailed review even after Dr. Cohen gave his opinion and reviewed the X-Rays in detail with the agent. We took many radiographs of damaged joint WITHOUT ANESTHESIA the pet would likely have been given elsewhere saving the owner hundreds of dollars. The agent was indeed advised it would take several weeks to get results from OFA but it was worthwhile and the agent agreed. Dr. Cohen wanted all the results from the various laboratory tests and x-ray reports before recommending a course of action which could have varied from anything from surgery to conservative medication care. We did indeed convey this information initially to the agent sent by the owner and again when calls came into our front office staff. We absolutely understand the anxiety pet owners feel but this was a chronic condition going on for months (maybe years) untreated. Dr. Cohen did indeed follow through when all the information came in from the radiologist, recommending a course of treatment, and sent copies of all records, data, & reports to the owner. We are sorry if there perhaps was a miscommunication between the actual owner of the pet and their agent(?) but it would have not been in the best interest of the pet to make decisions on only part of the information. Best wishes for the ongoing health and joy of this beloved dog.

My dogs recommend this great veterinarian and I have to agree!

Was referred to this vet by several friends and I was planning on making an appointment to go meet him. Unfortunately, before that could happen, I came home from work and found the smaller of my two dogs (a Weiner Dog) had swallowed a rawhide chewy stix and was choking. Although it was after closing when I arrived, the ladies at the front desk waited for me and the vet's wife greeted me, took my dog Sadie to the back where they took some Xrays to see the thing was stuck way down her throat. Dr. Cohen showed me the problem and thoroughly explained everything about retrieving the chewy with some kind of video grabber and then proceeded to get it out, saving my dog's life. I saw the pictures of her throat and they were pretty bad. The next day, my dog went home, ""happy as a clam"" with a ""Princess"" bow on. It's so comforting to have someone to turn to to help your dog in a crisis (or not) that instantly knows what to do, helps you unselfishly, and is a pleasure to do business with. I'll never forget Dr. Cohen and his employees. If you need a wonderful vet, whether or not your pet's life depends upon it, go see Dr. Jeff Cohen in Newport.

Expertise and Compassion:Highly Recommend

The setting is designer and beautiful. The salt water aquarium is amazing. This vet hospital is spotless and smells of fresh flowers. The clients are always so pleased to be there waiting for Dr. Cohen. Many of them have come from a distance or another hospital sent them to see Dr. Cohen. Everyone raves about this vet. The staff served me a glass of wine one afternoon and chatted with me at length when I was so nervous awaiting my pet""s test results. Dr. Cohen is so kind and so knowledgeable but he never makes you feel stupid or pressures you to do procedures you don't want to do. Dr. Cohen always gives you options for your pet's care. Dr. Cohen really cares about us and he always makes me laugh. I have 3 pets (2 dogs and a cat) and I spend a fair amount of time at his hospital and I can't recommend this vet highly enough.

Highly Recommend Newport Beach Pet Hospital

Dr. Jeffrey Cohen is a great vet and his hospital is a cool place for pets. His hospital is nicer than the doctor where we take our kids. After trying all the vets in the area, my wife and I are so happy we found this place and have been taking our two dogs and cat there for almost 5 years now. No place compares. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Best Veterinarian in Orange County!

Dr. Jeff Cohen is a Specialist in Veterinary Internal Medicine and a brilliant doctor. He works amazing hours and really cares about his patients. He recently saved a second pet of mine--after moving out of the area and taking my pet elsewhere, I returned to Dr. Cohen who knew what to do within minutes. His hospital is small but beautiful and the staff is amazing, too. Thank you just isn't enough for all that Dr.Cohen has done for my family. G.S.
