        About Search Results

YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.

        Tips & Advice

How long does it take to get the title of a used car?

Ideally, when purchasing a used car, you should have the title in hand before driving off in the vehicle. While the laws vary from state to state, many states stipulate that buyers shouldn't take ownership of a used car unless they've received the title. Keep in mind that even if you've paid for a used car, you don't really own it unless you're in possession of the title. And you can't be sure if the person selling the car is the rightful owner unless you've seen the title.

Can a used car be driven without plates?

State laws dictate that cars tapped for road use should have visible license plates. However, many states have provisions that give drivers a couple of months to obtain plates for cars that have been recently purchased or leased. This allows you to legally drive your newly purchased used car even though it is without plates.

What are the disadvantages of buying a used car?

There are a couple of disadvantages of buying a used car. The first has to do with reliability; since used cars have been previously owned, they might be less dependable than new cars in certain circumstances. Also, new cars come with generous warranty coverage, which  isn't offered with many used cars. Manufacturer-backed certified pre-owned cars are the exception to this rule; these used cars come with warranty coverage that is comparable to that offered by by new vehicles.

What are the benefits of buying a used car?

Buying a used car provides a huge financial benefit to car shoppers. New cars can lose nearly 20 percent of their value to depreciation after just one year of ownership. For this reason, even a one-year-old used car can be significantly more affordable than a comparable new model. Used cars also come with lower sales tax and registration fees, and they are less expensive to insure than comparable new models.

What are the benefits of buying from a used-car dealer?

There are certain benefits that come with buying a used car from a dealer. The dealer will typically handle all of the paperwork related to registration and title transfer, and the dealer will calculate applicable sales tax. This is a convenient perk, and it will save you time. Also, if you're looking to finance the car, the dealer may be able to provide you with affordable options. If the used car is part of a manufacturer-backed certified pre-owned program, it will be sold with a warranty that can help shield you from expensive repairs. Also, certified pre-owned cars must pass a rigorous inspection to be included in the program, and this helps you avoid vehicles that might develop serious reliability problems down the road.

Are taxes due when buying a used car?

If you're buying a used car, you'll usually have to pay sales tax that's imposed by your state. If the car is being purchased from a dealership, the dealer will assist you with calculating the amount of the tax due. If you're purchasing from a private party, you'll have to make the calculation yourself. While most states charge sales tax on cars, a couple of states do not impose this tax: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, Oregon, and New Hampshire. If a sales tax is charged, the rate can range from 2 percent to 7 percent.

What are some steps to take after buying a used car

        1. Take the car to the DMV to get it licensed and registered. This is required by law, so take care of this as soon as possible.
        2. Purchase auto insurance for the vehicle. The law also requires you to get insurance coverage for your vehicle, though you have leeway when it comes to the extent of your coverage. The good news is that insurance for a used car is less expensive than insurance for a comparable new vehicle.
        3. Take the car to a mechanic for a thorough inspection and tune-up. Ideally, you should have a mechanic give the used car a quick inspection prior to purchase to see if there were any major problems lurking. Now it's time to have the car inspected and serviced in a more comprehensive way. During this service visit, filters and fluids can be changed if necessary, brakes can be checked, and minor repairs can be made. This will ensure that your newly purchased used car is safe and ready for road use.

When buying a used car, what is a reasonable number of miles it should have?

It's a good idea to seek out cars that have less than 100,000 miles; overall, the less miles a car has, the better. Also, keep in mind that city miles produce more wear and tear than highway miles, due to the stress that stop-and-go traffic can put on a vehicle. For this reason, a car that's acquired most of its mileage in city driving will often tend to be in poorer shape than a car that's spent most of its life on the highway.

How much should you haggle for a used car?

You can save money by haggling for a used car, but to do it successfully, it's important to have a sense of what similar cars are selling for in your region. This will give you an idea of what kind of price you can ask for in your negotiation with the car dealer. Sites such as Edmunds and True Car provide pricing information that you can use to get an idea of what used cars are selling for in your neighborhood.

How can you negotiate a good price with a car dealer?

If you want to negotiate a deal with a car dealer know what you want going in, understand the market value of the car, and have a budget. If a dealer will not negotiate, simply go to their competition (even between dealers of the same brand)--someone will lower the rate to get you into the car. Be sure to shop late in the year or at year-end sales when dealers are purging inventory for the new models. here are also many places to shop online and get a new car without even leaving your home.

This company has treated me wonderfully time and time again. They are a no frills, no "diagnostic fee" bs company. They are prompt, efficient, and professional. Ive brought my car in asking them to diagnose issues, and they do so without any problems. Other times, ive brought my vehicle to them asking them to perform specific tasks (back out a stripped bolt on the block and replace belt tensioner with customer provided one) and they do so without issue. Seems like as long as you arent a princess wanting an engine swap, theyll do it!

Dropped off my car to these thieves over the weekend through their drop off box. Received a call on Monday stating what was wrong with my car. They came up with a Bill of $2200.00 which I gave them the go ahead to repair. When I received my car the car still had a check engine light on which they got someone right away to clear the codes. Not even a few minutes after I left the car started making noises that it never made before. I stopped at a gas station and the car started hesitating to start took me about 2 minutes for it to start. Took the car back in the same day I got it and a phone call now stating that something else is wrong in the car. Biggest scammers, Liars and rip-offs I have ever met do not take your vehicle in to them!!!

Martin Honda ruined my brand new CRV and refuses to replace it. My first oil change resulted a leak that drained every ounce of oil from my engine. This has taken years and miles off my brand new engine. The general manager refuses to call me back and is hiding behind his service manager. I have bought all my brand new Hondas from Martin for the last 17 years. Not one person up the chain of command has even apologized. Despicable.

Walked in on a Tuesday at 5:00 in the evening for just an oil change and was told I would not be able to get service until the following Saturday or Sunday. So I went to jiffy lube and they took me that day

Use to always go to them. Now today after making an appointment Thursday for a work truck that I need in 15 hrs to drive 200 miles, they call and say they can't do it. Last night when we called to see if it was done since it had been there already for over 5 hours, they said they didn't get to it but would first thing today knowing it was needed for work. Now no one is open and we are put in a very DANGEROUS position!

I had put in a vehicle request online and was called by Julian in the Internet Department. He set me up to meet with the Honda Manager Michael. When I got there, Michael greeted me and was very nice. A women Tiffany then took me out on a test drive in the Honda Accord it is a really nice car. There is a camera in the side mirror and you can see on the screen if there is a car in your blind spot. The car came with remote start too. My lease payment is good and I'm a happy customer. New building and the place and bathrooms were spotless.

I called around to different stores for tire pricing and had a good feel about Palumbo's the price was competitive and they had the tires in stock. We made the appointment and went to Palumbo's for the set of tires. We arrived about 45 min ahead of our appointment (finished our lunch early). They drove our car into the shop right away. The 4 tires were installed and our car was completed BEFORE our original appointment time. Professional , courteous & prompt. Angela T.

        Finding An Auto Repair Professional

There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.

        Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.

That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.

A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.

        Understanding When There's An Issue

It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.

In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.

Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.

        Doing Your Own Auto Repair

Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.

        Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.

Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.

In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.

For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.

        Avoiding Scams
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.

While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.

Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.

The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.

By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
