This place had a great first impression with me: -seemed crowded, but we got seats with NO wait -decor and atmosphere was intriguing (Tex-Mex theme) -tortilla-makers are out in the open so you can watch them crank 'em out! I ordered the pork sandwich and did not like it...I was almost disgusted cause of the chunks of fat were just so huge....I guess that's not their most-prized dish, BUT I could totally go back for more 'corn cake'! delish! My friends ordered the Taco special and they thought it was decent but we were all so full from the chips they serve before the meal that we took the rest to go! Better than leaving hungry, though! If you don't like being embarrassed on your birthday, don't go here! Other than that, I would go back again, and the 'sopapillas' that they serve as the birthday dessert are DELICIOUS!
We go to El Jefe 2-3 times per month. The food is always delicious. Every meal we have tried has been wonderfully flavorful and rich. The spicy dishes are authentically spicy... no blanding down for the American palate here! We have been to the Taqueria in Kennett numerous times, but the meals are not as evenly tasteful there. (The only exception is the green salsa). The only complaint I have with El Jefe is that the service is incredibly slow on drinks and drink refills. (even on the alcohol, which you would think they'd realize would make them more money?!) If you are ordering spicy food, get water to stand next to your magarita!
I ordered the chicken chimichanga and got a stuffed chicken burrito swimming in an indistinguishable tasteless sause. The dish was not bad, but it was not even close to a chimichanga or mexican for that matter. Through in something that makes feel more authintic or change the name!
