Javier is a mad genius. That would be the whole review, but maybe I should elaborate. We went in on a Sunday thinking we'd just ask some questions, buy what was recommended, and plant everything ourselves. Instead, Javier happened to be working up front that day. After asking questions about what we liked and then making suggestions based on the season as well as our tastes. He then told us to just bring our flower boxes on one of the days he was working, and he would arrange a box for us. He was so knowledgeable that we decided to trust him, and that paid off.I showed up at 7:10 on a Thursday with my flower boxes, just as they were beginning to close. However, when I showed up, Javier remembered me and my tastes. Instead of dismissing me since he was in the process of closing up, he took my flower boxes and in an impressive five-minute act, proceeded to lay down the potting soil and pick out an arrangement of flowers and complementary plants that looked amazing. He also made some custom handles out of shopping bags so I could carry the flowers home. And while he was doing that, he managed to attend to a persistent customer who wanted details on the origins of the orchids in the store. And by the way, he answered all her questions. For his efficient and masterful work, I recommend the entire shop. Their selection is great and their employees helpful. A little expensive? Sure, but the quality more than makes up for it.
If you want to have SPECTACULAR outdoor plants on your deck at a very reasonable price, go immediately to NY Plant Shed on 96th and Broadway, and ask for JAVIER. Don't settle for anyone else. Lots of people work there with varying personality types from friendly to hostile, bright to dull; but Javier is not only a plant expert, he is an artist. You may think that you know what you want and how you want to design your pots or boxes, but just ask Javier for his ideas. This man has vision. I've had patio pots designed for me by top florists in three states over the years, but NO ONE did a better job than Javier at this neighborhood plant shop! While watching his work I discovered that the third floor of this place also turns out rather impressive floral designs, including roses, orchids, etc., for delivery all over NYC. The owner, Jay, didn't seem phased by how awed I was with the work they did for me today. I guess he hears gushing all the time.
Spent my weekend looking for plants in the Union Square Market and decided to stop by the Plant Shed to pick up new pots. They have a great array of plants, pots etc and the shop is very well kept. This was also when I met Javier and the positive recommendations on this site were spot on; not only was he super helpful (carrying all my pots and soil to a location I could easily pick up a cab), he was very keen to help me find solutions fora variety of questions. He took the time to locate the best pot for the type of plant I had purchased else where but was also candid with his advice on what would work or not (even if it meant spending less in the store). Definitely worth a visit for those new to gardening.
I ordered flowers online in the morning to be delivered that evening for a friend that lived in Brooklyn. It was delivered on time (6 PM) when I chose for it to be delivered in the 5-9 PM time slot. I wasn't sure if the delivery would make it on time because the address was almost an hour away from Plant Shed but I was relieved that it did! My friend was thrilled when she received them. Additionally, I forgot to include the Floor # in the address when I had placed the order online. I emailed their customer service and they quickly confirmed the change and sent me a return email with the updated receipt.I'll definitely be coming back here in the future!
Highly Recommend! My children bought me a beautiful succulent plant for Mothers Day. The ceramic bowl they were in and the plants are beautiful. As per the instructions I watered on the 10th day after receiving. I started to notice fruit flies all over the place. As it turns out I overwatered. However I did call Plant Shed to ask what to do and they immediately said No Problem we will replace for you. They sent a new magnificent replacement the very next day. They were a pleasure to work with. The quality of product is outstanding.Thank you
My husband recently came here and got the PRETTIEST cut flowers ever. I'm not a floral expert at all, but even to my untrained eye, I could immediately tell that these flowers looked healthier, fresher, and more vibrant than flowers from the corner bodega, whole foods, that kind of thing. It was to the point where I asked him if there was something "different" about the bouquet. I guess there really is a subtle but noticeable difference in aesthetics and quality, depending on where you buy cut flowers from. Very impressed.
Everything in here is organized nicely and neatly. You'll notice so many pretty plants and flowers as you walk in the main level. And I love that they have sooo many different kinds of orchids, as this is my absolute favorite flower. The second floor has a huge selection of vases! It was very impressive. The clerks kinda hang around chit-chatting with each other, but if you ask them a question, they immediately and happily come over to help you out. They are all very knowledgeable.
My husband called Plant Shed from California and ordered a dozen long stem red roses to be delivered to me in New York. They are/were spectacular. The flowers I received were beautiful from day 1 and still are 10 days later! I have received a lot of flowers in my lifetime and generally am disappointed in the quality and longevity, but this arrangement is a real exception. Anytime I need flowers in NYC, or someone asks for a recommendation, I will gladly send them to Plant Shed.
Went in to buy some single stem flowers for some hair pieces I was making for a bachelorette party. They were so nice and helpful in suggesting the type of flowers I should use for this project and I even walked out of there with a plant too! I didn't feel pressured to buy anything at any moment and they just seemed happy to share their knowledge with me. I'll definitely be back and recommend them to anyone looking for plants or flowers!
My cat had attempted to murder one of my larger succulents during the night so I went to Plant Shed to get some suggestions on how to try and salvage the plant and new pot/soil suggestions. The staff was incredibly helpful pointing out soil to get and showing me the best kind of pot. The selection was huge and the prices were pretty good for NYC. It was a very enjoyable experience and I'm much more hopeful about my succulents success.
