A Health Hazard

My friend ordered take-out here, she complained about the automatic 6% gratuity on a take-out order, she felt like she was being taken advantage of by the extremely rude waiter and asked a waitress if this 6% charge was indeed valid. The waitress said that it was not, and that it was definitely a mistake. The above mentioned waiter took offense when my friend asked to speak to a manager, and told her not to order from there anymore. She proceeded to eat with her mother and brother, and all of them got violently sick. The symptoms indicate that it could only be food poisoning. So God only knows what the waiter did to the food. Someone could have died because of an angry waiter. The Health Department has been notified, and the remainder of the food has been sent out for testing. You have been warned.

50% deal sounds good

however, the service here is just bad. I like the food for this price, and have been going to Zen for years. but every time I'm there, I have to wait for a long time for my food, and they always miss our order. and they want you to pay 15% tips (even if they missed your order). Make sure you pay more 14%, or they would run out the store, insult you and ask you for that $1 tips. after such unpleasant experience, I think i'm going to try other restaurant around.

Great value, good food

I'm a big fan of this place - its can be a little cozy at times, and on Friday nights there is usually a 20 minute wait, but its well worth it.

Sushi is 50% off (if you order over $10) and they have a bar in the restaurant too so you can order drinks while you wait also. The menu features classic sushi and inside-out sushi, and also have other Japanese foods like chicken katsu.

Its a fun place even for groups, but see if you can get a reservation in advance.

Worst service ever

Had dinner here last night. This was our second time here, and it will be our LAST time as well. We waited over 45 minutes for our food! People who sat down after us got their food way before we did. And not only that, two of the waiters had the nerve to try to hand us our check even though our food never came! I called over our waiter to ask where our food was, and the first words out of his mouth were ""You want your check?"" Are you kidding me?! And when our food finally did come, my girlfriend was given the WRONG order! Unbelievable!! And to top things off, the pork in here katsu curry was as flat as ham!

Not bad, Not good

Someone told me that Sushi Lounge on St. Marks and Ave A is the same place: same owner, same menu. Zen Sushi is good, nothing spectacular, all the sushi tastes like theres a little wasabi in it. The 50% of deal is good, but it only works because their sushi is expensive, most of the rolls are $8-12, so if you want to save money you end up getting the regular rolls, priced at $3-5. I live in Brooklyn and the sushi here is definitely better (at $2.50 for regular rolls). If you are craving sushi and are in the area, stop by. I've only had sushi there so try something else on their menu and write a review.

Have been meaning to review this place for a while..

I've only gotten sushi so far at this place, and I love the 50% off deal. This place is cheap and fantastic..! Will keep coming back.

Good Place

The sushi is pretty cheap & free, though the portions are kind of small. After ten there are two buck pints of kirin or something, that's pretty cool for the village. And the waitresses occasionally hit japanese giggly mode which totally cracks me up. Like many village places, the patio is a little ridiculous though.

Noodle-riffic!

I had a craving for noodles, and my favorite joint was closed, so I tried Zen. I had an excellent bowl of ramen with miso broth, full of scallions and very flavorful. My only complaint is that there was only a VERY small piece of meat in a $8 bowl of soup, but I guess that's 'authentic.' I also had a spicy tuna roll, quite fresh and satisfying...ACTUALLY spicy, unlike many rolls with lackluster flavor. I will certainly go again.

Rockin' Raw fish

The 50% off sushi is an excellent treat for anybody into cheap and really good and tasty sushi. They tend to have all sorts of specails, and a lot of Japanese cus. which really speaks volumes about how good the food is.

Great Sushi

This is my favorite sushi restaurant. I must have eaten here like 50 times in the last few years. The sushi are always fresh and delicious, and most importantly, not over-priced. The people are friendly and knowledgeable. They serve standard fare, so none of those neo-sushi or monster-sushi stuff.
