Great haircuts for 8 years now

Nicky listens to what I want and takes that style and makes it look good.

I don't even trust what I want anymore. I just tell him to do what he thinks is best.

He knows I can't afford color so he advises me on the color I should choose if I insist on doing it myself.

His haircuts are easy to maintain. He cuts the hair so it falls exactly where it's supposed to. He makes me look like a hip, monied, aging gracefully, rockstar.

I took my Mom there at Xmas and everyone back home said she looked so much younger. He didn't cut her hair radically different. He just shifted the emphasis to her better features.

As of today, 6/8/10, the shampoo, blow dry and cut for my long hair cost $30, with tips to the shampoo gal and Nicky, it's $40.

A bargain.

Great selection and staff

I went in on a Saturday afternoon with my friend and actually got to use my new Luxe Now gift card (it’s awesome – it’s a gift card you can use at any nail salon in manhattan ) and had no wait for 2 pedis. Large polish collection, assortment of magazines, and interior/staff to serve many clients at once. Bright and clean. The utensils are sterilized in the purple light box (do NOT know the technical name). I always wish they used brand new tools on me, but I guess that's very rare.

Staff were friendly and very accommodating. I was very pleased with the results and LOVED the chair massage. Then, they gave me a frequent buyer card and punched it twice for me AND my friend (since she was visiting from out of town). After 10 services, you get a free manicure or eyebrow wax.

Avoid Japanese-trained stylists at all cost!

I'm referring to the Hester Street location. I've been going there off and on since the place opened, and I can definitely say that the place has gone downhill. I can definitely relate to the user below because I've had a similar experience like that several weeks ago while I was there. I go to different stylists - whichever one is available as I don't usually make appointments. Also, they never give the cut you ask for. Not even close. The stylist will claim he knows what you want but will give you a style different from the one you and the ""barber"" originally agreed on.

They'll always give you the same excuse if you don't get the style you want, ""... it won't work for asian hair."" Blah blah blah. One time I got fed up and trekked over to this salon's Soho location (I've been to their Midtown location as well) and got an awesome style that lasted close to three months! Yes, I did pay three times the V2 price but I didn't have to step into a salon for three months either.

Most Chinatown stylists, including some at this salon, are trained by Japanese, and their mentors who trained them, were most likely Japanese-trained. It's a vicious cycle! I hope these stylists break out of there shell and get some advanced modern hair education.

Great Salon - GREAT price

I stopped in on a busy Saturday afternoon and only had to wait about 5-10 minutes. I only had a manicure but it was just $10 - you can't beat that. The manicure was done perfectly and my hands and nails look flawless still. Very pleased! I will use this salon again

nasty customer service

Nasty customer service! The staff was incredibly rude, and I got this ""stylist"" with a ponytail and earrings who had absolutely no idea what he was doing. In addition, he was picking his nose and sneezing in my face throughout various points in time while he was cutting my hair. All in all, this is a place to absolutely avoid if you value hygiene and/or customer service, which is sad, because I've been to this salon a year ago, and the service was great. things just aren't what they used to be. Avoid at all costs!!!

Great price, great service

I use this nail salon pretty regularly. It is really clean and the staff is attentive and patient...especially to people like me who can't seem to get out of there without smudging a nail. The price is really reasonable - pedicures are done in i-joy massage chairs (sharper image type) and the manicure seats have pillows. The pedicure is accompanied by a nice foot massage (some a little longer if you get the right girl, most are good though.)You can get both for twenty something dollars...throw in a 10 minute mini massge for another few bucks and it is a perfect long lunch break. They also do great eyebrow waxing and have new tanning machines. I haven't tried the other services offered but will in the future. If you live or work in the area you should definately give this place a try. I only wrote a review because I have benefited from others reviews in the past and wanted to pay it forward!

decent hair cut for good price

If you go beyond Chinatown, it'll cost you over $100 for a haircut. Haircut and highlights are only a little over $100 and it looks great! The salon is small and there's nothing posh about it but you'll get what you need.

Excellent Service, Amazing Manicures

I got my manicure for the first time today at VIP Beauty Salon and it was wonderful. The service is so warm and nice. Salon is light and spacious. All manicure chairs have comfortable pillows. My manicurist did a great job, very careful, very neat. It's not very expensive and I recommend this place to anyone who wants to get a little pampered for a little while. I went on my lunch hour and it was busy but I didnt wait at all.

unexperienced ""stylist""

Poor customer service and unfriendly staff. I just needed a simple trim and yet the unexperienced ""stylist"" had no idea what she was doing and overcharged me.

Good bargain, great shampoo

For $25 (excl. tip), I got the wet cut which meant that a fabulous shampoo job was done (gotta love the pressure massage) and cut & then dry. Wow the other reviewer wasn't kidding about thinning - my hair is about half as thick as before. I was a walk-in and was immediately helped out. A bit more than I expected for a Chinatown haircut, but in line with the Aveda student hair-cut and much faster service.

Great bargain, great haircut, language a bit difficult

You aren't going to find a much better deal in the city, and Nicky does a great cut, but bring a picture. Talking is difficult. Also, for us fine hair types, you might want to tell him beforehand- No Thinning! They love to thin there for some reason. But overall I recommend it. They are friendly, the shampoo's feel great because they do pressure point massage, it's easy to get an appointment, and it's entirely affordable.

Skills - Service at an Amazing Value!

Looking to get a last minute blow-out for my abnoxiously curly hair, I called this salon to see if they had any appts. available. Although it took a few minutes to break thru the language barrier, I got an immediate appointment. When I arrived at the salon (15 minutes later), they immediately gowned me & took me to their washing station where I received one of the best shampoos of my life. The Junior stylist (Edison) washed, conditioned & massaged my hair/head for almost 15 mins. He then took me to the chair where Nicky (the Stylist) took over & within 15 minutes had my hair completely straight!! The best part of it all was the delightful surprise I received when I got my bill...my total was $12.00!!!! I would highly recommend this ""find"" of a salon to anyone who likes to have their hair blown straight.
