Great ambienance! We order the 6 course around the world sampler and the sampler course was hit or miss with the dishes. Great way to try everything however the dishes took way to long to come out in between. It's trendy and a sexy place to visit on a date or with friends. But if you're down right hungry and want a good savory meal, conitnue to follow your nose to the place less likely to be on the main road.

The website declares ""scantilly dressed servers"" we found our server, who was a boy who dressed in PJ's to be demanding and very inattentive. The staff was all dressed similarly ...not appealing.
Our waiter TOLD us what to order- the $48 per person meal that our group didn't want. He left us unattended for 20 minutes at a time, over and over.
The wine list was sparse
The food was good- maybe 7 out of 10.
The decor was 7 as well- i worry someone is going to fall down the steep, dimly lit steps.
I won't go back.

Tried the Winter Restaurant Week menu and was surprised to find that dinner is 4 courses. Since we were a group, we ordered everything and it was superb! This is one restaurant week menu designed and executed with perfection and one that definitely tempts me back to try the a la carte options.
We ate at Spice Market to celebrate my 40th Birthday. We had an excellent meal in fantastic surroundings. The decor is amazing and such an interesting place. I mentioned on booking that the meal was a birthday treat and the staff greeted me with a "Happy Birthday" and at the end of the meal they brought us a slice of cake! This coupled with superb food made for a wonderful birthday. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone its brilliant.

This has to be my favourite place in NYC hands down. I've been living here for 4 years now and have tried out a lot of different places and Spice Market definitely stands out. Everything about this place - the decor, the service, the food - is top notch. A lot of high-end places end up service bland cuisine that you can find at any other place. Not Spice Market.
The portions are good for sharing and the flavors are truly spectacular. The chicken samosas and black pepper shrimp are exquisite. As for the red curried duck, that's a winner hands-down. It also has some interesting dessert choices and the vietnamese coffee always hits the right spot.
All in all, everything about this place is just about perfect. Very highly recommended.

The food isn't terrible, but for all the hype you'd think it would be a lot better. The atmosphere was the best part of the meal. The service on the other hand was absolutely atrocious. It took 45 minutes to bring out the appetizers. The waiter had no idea what was going on. He forgot to bring out bread/chips. When we asked, he said he'd bring them out right away. This was before the appetizers, mind you. Of course, he never did, and the next time we saw him was when he came to ask if we wanted the check. Nothing else about the place was good enough for me to go back.

Five of us went to Spice Market to celebrate my daughter Samantha's 25th birthday. We had been there before when they first opened and it was just too popular and crowded (for me) to truly enjoy the dining experience. But we were enticed by the tasting menu and thought it was time to give it a second shot based on the reviews. Antonio, our delicious waiter, suggested we just ""go with the tasting menu and be surprised "" . We just stated the things we really didn't like and he assured us we would not be dissapointed. Only one of us decided to go a la carte. We had already planned to stop on the way home to eat as we usually leave upscale Manhattan restaurants hungry because it's all about "" pretty "" food in large plates with something drizzled for decoration. WOW, were we wrong! For the first time EVER...we had doggie bags. The food was endless...each an exquiste masterpiece....all at the chefs disgression. My husband ordered a la carte. The tuna appy and the duck entree was..."" the best he's ever had "". I wasn't sure what wine to choose and Antonio picked the perfect bottle once I described the type of wine I liked. We couldn't have picked a better place and a better server. I HIGHLY recommend Spice Market for the decor, the food, the value and if you're lucky enough to get Antonio...he will truly make your dining experience memorable. We will be back....
