Came there specifically b/c we had a restaurant certificate. We over ordered to meet the minimum requirement. When the bill came they said no certificate allowed. There was no apology or compromise on their part to make amends, they did not care,,,, just said we will not take it. I have lost confidence in restaurant (learned always show certificate first from now on and make decision on whether to stay) and will not eat there again as management didn't care that we were inconvenienced, on a budget and was sold a bill of goods. Not going there again.
FOOD: ok, upstairs was claustrophobic with 3 too many tables there and really low ceilings. NO MUSIC, no atmosphere, no class by management to be customer service oriented. Approach carefully

I eat out several times a week and found my new favorite place. The linguini in a white clam sauce is by far the best pasta dish I have ever had. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was so delicious that I couldnt stop eating it. They should bottle it and sell it - its that good. The mussels appetizer in a white wine sauce and tiramisu are a must also.
My friends equally enjoyed thier meals.
The service was great and the owner was so sweet and welcoming.
Worth the trek from accross town!

Food is not that good. Questions about wine selection - you might get an answer. Service is not excellent.
Maximo a/k/a ""Mr. Continental"" is lecherous old man who may have had it a long long time ago - would like to think he might still have it but his mojo is long gone; yet he still persists on hitting on any young woman he feels he might have a chance with - going on and on about Tuscany though he is a ""make believe"" Italian or a generic one. Unfortunately, this one lasttime we ate there has done it for us. There are so many fine restaurants in New York. Maybe someone else can also point that out to Sam's/
I loved everything about this restraunt... Small, quiet, friendly staff, clean, and last but not least the food was amazing! I can not wait to go back. I told my family after eating chicken marsalla at Sam's Place, I wouldn't be able to eat it anywhere else because nothing would even come close to how perfect it was. :)

I was SO surprised at how amazing the food was. I went on a Tuesday night, easy to get a table. The place is very cute and neat, but nothing over the top. The wait staff is very friendly and jokes around. They made the experience even better. The wine list is affordable (a few bottles between $25-35 and many over $35) and entrees are very affordable at about $15. I had the veal parmagiana and it was out of this world! I brought my parents there (visiting from out of town) and we normally go to expensive restaurants so I was hoping that this was not a mistake. We were delighted with food and whole experience! I highly recommend it.

Sam's Place is a cozy neighborhood restaurant. One of the best kept secrets in all of New York City. I have been eating here several times per trip for the last 15-20 trips to NYC. During a family trip to the city, both my 11 year old and 17 year old declared Sam's to have the best Ravioli on the planet. I have never had anything that I didn't absolutely love at this place. The management is wonderful. I miss seeing Sam (former owner) but new owner is also very friendly and has personally welcomed and thanked us for each and every visit. After explaining the specials each time he declares that he can also make anything else we want. You cannot go wrong. I recommend it to everyone I know who is going to the city. Prices are wonderful.

I love this place! The food is as good as a number of Italian restaurants in the area yet costs considerably less. Perhaps that is why it tastes better. The service is attentive but not fawning. I went to another restaurant nearby today because of a recommendation (Fagiolina), and it was an awful experience. The service was terrible, the food tasteless and the prices are comparable. I can't believe they have the same 9.0 rating!
Go to Sam's Place and be pampered and well-fed. You will have a wonderful dining experience.

I went here on a personal recomendation. Sam's Place is an excellent restaurant. The chicken parmesan was delicious and the chocolate cake was to die for. The prices are low, so a customer can get an appetizer, entree and desert for what most fancy restaurants charge for and entree alone. The staff was very friendly and served us promptly. We will go back again soon.

We live up the block and stopped by Sam's for dinner based on a recommendation. GREAT FOOD! We were welcomed in by the entire staff especially the owner. This will be our new neighborhood spot for guaranteed great food for a great price!! Go there, I promise you won't be disappointed!

Happened on Sam's Place by chance. We had excellent veal parmigiana and veal piedmontese (sp?). Our bill total was only $30 and our waiter threw in a side of linguini (no charge) since the entrees don't come with pasta sides. The restaurant was romantic though a bit small unless they also seat upstairs. The service was amazingly prompt and we were never overlooked.
