I normally don't write reviews although I should however after seeing the review below I felt inclinded to share my experience. Pylos is a wonderful restaurant - the ambiance, food, service. You feel like you are dining somewhere outside of NYC. I've been several times and my favorite thing to do at this restaurant is share a bunch of items. I really like this restaurant and keep coming back.

Worst restaurant experience I have ever had. My group was unable to enjoy the food because the management was extremely unprofessional. Without calling him over the manager made a point to come to the table to yell at my group. You can imagine our shock and distress at what can only be conceived as an attack over nothing that had been done by our group. Also, he refused to answer any of our questions or discuss why he was yelling but simply continued to rant loudly, make derogatory remarks and walk away.
No food is worth such unprovoked ill treatment. Nothing could make me set foot in that place of business again. I will simply continue to patronize other restaurants and cross this one off my list.

Ok, so I guess it might not be fair to rate Pylos on the night I went there, but I'm going to write the review anyway. I went to Pylos on valentine's day, so instead of their usual menu, they had a pre-fixe menu. I guess the problem with this is that they're just cranking out dishes, not really paying any care to what they're making.
I ordered the moussaka as an appetizer. It was good. However, this would be the last thing I would eat for a good 45 min as we waited for our entrees to come out.
Perhaps it was the moron sitting at the very table next to us trying to impress his girl by ordering something else on the regular menu that wasn't on the menu for the night. Excuse me, but didn't you get the memo? What makes you so special? Lo and behold, what did moron man special order??? French fries. Yes, french fries. So not only was I sitting next to the biggest d-bag in the restaurant, but his custom ordered french fries probably delayed my order too.
Eventually, my food came out, but it was just ok. I ordered the sea bass, but perhaps my expectations were sky high after having the best chilean sea bass I'd ever had just a few nights before.
The moral of the story: try pylos on a normal night. I hear it's excellent, and I wanted to love it, but I'm guessing that going on valentine's day just made it an off night for this place.

Came here for brunch with my bf. The service was great, space was beautifully decorated - loved all the mirrors. I liked that they served tea, coffee and mimosa with the brunch special. Ordered the grilled calamari salad for starters and it was to die for, just so delicious. The feta cheese omelette was just ok, however, my bf's salmon omelette was a bit better, but nothing too special about the omelettes. But they also serve yummy, warm pita bread which I liked dipping into my salad.

being married to a guy from Athens, we have a high bar for good Greek food. Pylos is the only place we consistently recommend- and dine - when it comes to this category. In fact it is few and far between we have friends come in from out of town that we don't take them here! Pylos does a great job of having our favorite taverna dishes and others that take an interesting play on traditional ingredients. after years of going here it's now become hard to get a table - even speaking greek - so call ahead! it's worth it

I always have a good meal here, its too bad its not closer to my apt. Pylos is always on point with food and service. The grilled octopus and the greek salad are may fav, I could eat them all the time. They have some great wine but I get a little lost with an all greek wine list but the server can help you with a good pick if you tell them what you like. I like to order the zoe its an easy drinking rose. make sure to make a reservation before because they get busy and its not a big restauant.

A co-worker tipped me off about Pylos and since I am huge fan of Greek food, I took his advice. I highly recommend reserving a table on Weekend nights. Since we called ahead, we barely waited at all. The tables are situated very close to one another, but not in a bad way. We found ourselves conversing with the four-top next to us toward the end our dinner, and it made for a very nice community atmosphere. The restaurant had a European feel to it and was very relaxed. The food was top-notch: authentic and fresh as can be. We ordered the chicken lemon rice soup, stuffed grape leaves, dorade whole fish, lamb chops and ouzo chocolate mousse for dessert. Everything was great. The wine list filled with Greek wines provided great choices as well. I honestly have considered getting a standing reservation at this place and can't wait to go back.

Went there last friday during a visit to the city.. We didn't have reservations, but, they took our name down and promised to call us if one of their parties cancelled.. Well, they didn't us.. Fortunately we were in the neighborhood and checked back with them.. They said that they had a table for us and it still took them some 20 mintues to seat us.. I guess its all part of the New York charm..
Anyway, once we were seated, the brought us some warm pita bread and a white bean spread. Was quite tasty..
We ordered their artichoke moussaka, but, they were out of it, so, we ordered a crisp fried zucchini and eggplant rounds served with tzatziki instead.. Wasn't bad.. And, then for our main course, we ordered, shrimp and sea scallops in a creamy ouzo flavored tomato sauce. served over greek egg noodles.. The shrimps were huge and nicely done and so were the sea scallops.. The sauce was also quite good and remided me of some taste from some of my childhood dishes, but, I can't quite put a finger to it.. For my vegeterian brother, we oredered, the classic spinach rice pilaf served with crumbled feta, lemon and cracked black pepper.. Was quite tasty.. Had a lot of dill in it though..
All in all, a nice dinner.. We didn't order any alcohol, but, they had a decently good winelist.
I might go there again and I'll have to remember to make reservations..
