This place seems to get a bad rap on some other sites because they sell puppies, but I do not have anything to complain about with this place. My wife and I bought a pomeranian from here about a year ago and she is the best dog we have ever owned. We live close to here and the employees are happy to see me and Betty when we come in to buy stuff. I have recommended some friends to buy dogs from them and they seem to be happy with their dogs also.

Pets On Lex has been reported to the ASPCA.
This place should be shut down. All the animals look sick, crusty eyed, listless, stressed out. Many of the puppies were chewing on their water bottles as they're teething but instead of being able to gnaw on a toy, something made for teething, they're cutting their mouths open and breaking what teeth they have.
The staff is rude, and unconcerned for the MANY animals in their care. No doubt their puppies are from puppy mills.
Please do not buy your pet from this store.
The only reason i've given it a 1 star, not 0 star, rating is because this site won't allow you to publish a review without a star rating. This place is shameful.

My girfriend and I bought a mini dachshund puppy from here this past summer and we were a little overwhelmed when we first got the dog home. My girlfriend probably called the store with questions about 10 times during the first 2 days. Lisa helped us every time and gave us some housebreaking tips that made things much easier. I still go in every once in a while to say hello and buy some stuff when I am in the area. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends who are looking for a puppy.

Listen, people either love them or hate them. For my wife and I, we came here one time a couple of months ago and almost baught a puppy. Then we decided to look into breeders outside the city. The dog breeders are either crazy, rude, arrogant, overpriced, or a combination of all.
Elyss helped us, and two months after our firtst visit we went home with a great Weimaraner puppy.
The entire staff was friendly.
Believe me, we visited many breeders and the conditions at most of them were deplorable. This shop takes care of their inventory.
ALSO, we contacted the Kansas breeder of the Weimaraner we purchased. They are absolutely reputable and are professional family breeders.
We love our dog and are proud to say Pets on Lex helped us with the adoption process.
Most negative reviews come from people who have either never purchased a puppy before, or people who just walked by the store and decided to express their views on the web.
A good place. Safe to pourchase your puppy here. They are professionals.

this is the worst store for dogs in NY, we bought a puppy on 11/29/09 and when we got home we realized the dog had fleas, she was itching like crazy so we went to riteaid and bought flea shampoo. it worked but the itching continued so we brought her back to pets on lex,the older gentelman who works there denied the dog had fleas and was very unpleasant,he tried to make me feel like i made the whole thing up,why would i do that? the story gets better, we took the dog to the vet and the fecal test came back positive for giardia which is an intestinal parasite and could kill the dog at her age. i called and tried to be nice but both people i spoke to named bob and jack were complete a---holes and answered me discontent with words like""SO"" and finally i was told to ""DO WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO"" and was hung up on.

I think I would recommend Pets On Lex to someone looking to get a puppy. I purchased a Havanese puppy Trevor here about 6 months ago and I love this little guy! He was expensive, but I think he was worth it. He is very playful, smart and has a great personality. I had a good experience with Lyssa at the store. She gave me pretty much everything I needed to train the puppy and was available for me when I called with questions and issues about Trevor. I still buy most of my supplies there because it is convenient for me, but I do go to petco when I need to save money on some things.?

I am happy to recommend Pets On Lex, we even named our dog ""Lexington"". He has been very healthy, happy, and we could not be more pleased. The staff were very nice and helpful. It was my first dog buying experience and it was a good one!! I'd go back!!!

I have posted on other City sites...and just wanted to post here as well...this is THE best shop in the City!!!
I have bought 2 gorgeous and fantastic pupppies from Pets on Lex and couldn't compliment them more! The staff is knowledgeable and caring and just a pleasure to deal with. While I bought my first one Yorkshire Terrier (Trudie) at the 86th Street store (now home to a future high rise ), I purchased the second (Max) at the new location at 77th Street. Both locations have always been kept extremely clean and the animals VERY well cared for. What's more is they are so loved by all the staff, that was one of the reasons I knew I was in the right place. They didn't push me into anything while I was deciding and they allowed me to find what was right for me.
The support they offer is by far the best any pet owner could ask for and they have made me part of their family and had given me veterinarian visits to be sure all was well. Both puppies were in excellent health and still are.
This is the place to go, as I have heard from other dog owners in the city (not just the neighborhood) and I would reccomend it to anyone that would want a healthy, well cared fr new addition to their family.

I purchased my shih tzu puppy, Toby, from Pets On Lex last year and I had a wonderful experience with them. I had the puppy checked out by a vet a week after purchasing the puppy and he was in perfect health. The day after I took the puppy home, I received a phone call from the vet tech that works there and he inquired about how my puppy was getting used to his new enviroment and whether I had any questions to ask about caring for him. It was a nice gesture on their part. I still shop there for supplies and stop in to see the cute little pups. Everytime I stop in I get a nice greeting from the staff and when I bring Toby in with me he always gets a treat from the woman behind the counter. Overall, I have to say that I had a great experience with this pet store and would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a puppy and/or supplies.

I used to pass the window at this store everyday on my way home from work and look at the puppies. My apartment building allows dogs, but I didnt think I was ready for a dog just yet. Then I went inside one day and saw the cutest little dachshund and fell in love. I played with her and held her for about 2 hours and asked a million questions to the saleman Kal. Finally, I decided to get her and it has been so much fun having a puppy around. I named her Molly because I just thought the name fit her. After I took her home I was so nervous that I must have called and spoke to Kal at least 15 times in 3 days. He just told me that the first few days with her will be the toughest and just remember that i need to be patient with her. He was right. Now I just laugh at her because i find it funny funny to see how such a little dog can be so feisty. I don't think she realizes how small she is sometimes. I am extremely happy with the puppy and service I received from Pets On Lex and I would recommend this store to anyone looking for a puppy.

This weekend I walked by Pets on Lex (Lexington, between and 87th and 88th). I went in to get some cat food and was totally APPALLED by what I saw. A man ( the owner I believe) was handling the puppies violently and abusively.
There were cats in plexiglass boxes way too small for them to move. Most of the felines were nearly full grown - I'm beside myself thinking that they may be in those tiny boxes for up to a year or more. One of the cats was rolling in its litterbox, probably out of boredom and stress.
Something should be done about this place. How can such a store operate in NYC?

The positive reviews must come from the owner or his friends because this store is deplorable. The owner should go to jail for how he treats animals in addition to being extremely rude.
If you buy a dog here, you are supporting the very cruel industry of puppy mills. NO celeberties buy their pets here (as stated in a previous review). These dogs come from puppy mills and all look sick with coughs and crust in their eyes. By buying a dog here, you are creating space for another dog to come in from a mill and perpetuating the viscious cycle of animal cruelty.
NEW YORK CONSUMERS, PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THIS STORE . READ THE CUSTOMER REVIEWS. DOGS ARE SICK AND OWNERS HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS GETTING THEM THE HELP THEY NEED.
If you are looking for a dog, do NOT come here. The workers here are arrogant, and mean. The puppies here look clean, but are too big for their small cages. My family was looking for a dog, and the man who was there was totally impolite and wouldn't answer any of my questions. I politely asked him if my children could pet the puppy we were interested in (a Shih Tzu), the man yelled at us, and ordered us to leave the store. The puppies aren't socialized, and judging from this employee's attitude, are abused. Don't buy from here unless you want to save dogs who are suffering from neglect.
