I don't know whether my friend and I just got unlucky or whether these ratings are bs and/or written by people who don't know good Italian food, but the food was HORRIBLE. (And we were there on a Friday night, when it was raining and therefore not too busy, so there's no excuse like ""oh, it was an off night,"" or ""it was just super crowded."")
I know good Italian, and I'm originally from NYC. My favorite Italian includes Roberto's on Arthur Avenue and Lidia Bastianich's restaurant, Becco.
The food was not edible with the exception of the caprese salad and the bread--which was not all that great either. The wine was very good to be fair--I ordered the merlot. The stuffed mushrooms and eggplant rollatini were literally not edible, and we didn't eat the vast majority. The meat in the mushrooms tasted horrible and was not cooked properly, and the breadcrumbs were soggy. The eggplant rollatini (which was recommended by the waiter over the eggplant parm) had this aweful fried grease taste which overwhelmed the dish. The ricotta was also not very good (and people who know good Italian know that ricotta in a dish like that, if done well should stand out).The gnocchi tasted like a mediocre frozen brand, though the tomato sauce was decent and the ricotta and mozzarella made it semi-palatable. I did eat about 1/2 of this, BUT it was my friend's dish and she couldn't eat it, and I was still hungry because I couldn't eat my mushrooms and eggplant.
And just to toss it in there, I got this meal at a much cheaper price than it normally would have been because I used a Groupon, so if I'm this dissatisfied having paid about 2/3 the normal price...imagine if I had paid full price! Literally the worst italian meal I've ever had with the exception of the Olive Garden in Philadelphia and maybe a diner once. Better off at a run of the mill Manhattan pizza place.
And ps: the waiters were nice, so this review is not simply bitter or something like that.

I got the this restaurant several times a week and love the food. The specials are always spectacular and the service is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occassion. It is more like going to a friends house to eat dinner because the people that work there are amazing and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The prices are very reasonable and the wine is out of this world. If you love Italian food, you must not miss this family owned restaurant.

We have frequented NYC restaurants for the past 16 years. This was our worst experience. The host was not welcoming. While waiting for friends to join us, we waited at the bar. The bartender poured my highball glass about ? full. He did not have any more bourbon in inventory but, charged for a full drink. Two others in our party of four also complained about the quality of their drinks.
We were taken to a table in the rear of the restaurant passing about 10 empty tables. The table was very wobbly and unbalanced. We requested a table change. They attempted to brace the legs. Since this did not work, we moved ourselves to a table closer to the front and away from the kitchen entrance.
Table service was very attentive, but, the appetizer and entree were much too salty.
Upon leaving we all had to enter the coat closet and help ourselves.

This is a fabulous classic Italian restaurant--no glitz and glamour, it's an older crowd--but delicious food, excellent service, and low-key, quiet atmosphere. Everyone in our party raved about their food (fried zucchini appetizer is superb, veal, chicken in marsala sauce) and we definitely plan to return to this neighborhood gem.

This is a lovely restaurant with wonderful people. Linda and Louis are both excellent hosts and have become good friends to me and my family. We celebrate many ocaisions there and have always had wonderful food and service.
I can particularly recommend the fish dishes which are always excellent! We always start with fried zuchinni and calamari and which is the best in the city.

Although the crowd tends to be more middle aged than just married, Paul & Jimmy's has been a favorite of mine and my husband's ever since he took me there on our first date. He proposed there, and we had our rehearsal dinner there, and will be celebrating our first anniversary there. The egplant rolatini are standby, as are most of the veal dishes, always tasty.
