Racket!!!!

It's a damn shame that the company would let such a prestigious locate fall into disrepair. The pool has yet to be fixed...and this has been awhile.... and the place needs a makeover. Will someone in the company please listen!!!!

I have very curly hair and my colorist, Eddie Hruz, manages the color, makes it shine and gives it depth. It even feels great!

Stole my bike lock

The 56th Street location stole my bicycle lock. I returned from Labor Day weekend to find a sign posted over the bikerack outside saying they will clip locks left overnight, and my lock was gone, leaving me standing there foolishly in the middle of midtown with a bicycle and no lock.

I have been a member of the NYHRC, and have been leaving my lock there overnight, since 2004. I commute to midtown by bicycle, and shower at the gym.

When I reported the theft, the manager on duty simply shrugged and said, ""We are not responsible for locks."" It is one thing to disavow responsibility for locks; it is another thing to clip them.

I am now canceling my membership. Be forewarned: it is an arduous and expensive process. You cannot cancel in person; you must send a registered, certified letter to headquarters 30 days before your next ""collection date."" The $350 annual locker fee I just paid is non-refundable.

Between the non-refundable locker fee, the lost bike lock, and the useless extra month, I'm out more than $600 to the New York Health and Racquet Club. I cannot recommend joining them. There are plenty of other gyms in the area.

at nyhrc $$ comes first, not client !

These people are greedy. This week I went there with a guest and they charged me $20 for my guest although I am supposed to get several guest passes each year and have never used any. They said they would reimburse the $20 if I can get them a guest pass within 7 days. From where ?? I immediately canceled my membership. Avoid this club. Priority is the money not the client. Go to equinox, LA sports club etc...

A NYC Legend

This salon is my favorite because its staff is so incredible...try any one of their colorists and you won't be disappointed. Nelly does the best brows in town and I highly recommend a cut with Linda. Everyone is very friendly-none of that "attitude" if you know what I mean. You'd never know that they work with some of the best-known people-they never brag about it and always make you feel special. Hoi does my friend's hair because he works so well with curly hair. Try it-you'll be happy you did!

run down

annoyed, I went there today after speaking to the receptionist saying she could get me in for a $25 day pass and how did I find out the sundeck is closed during the wk? after I called 1, to ask if they had one and 2, told her that was the only reason why I was coming. although she charged my card, she apologized and was nice enough to give me 2 free guest passes for when I want to come back on the weekend to use it so that was a little better. as for the 57th st nyhrc, it was old, smelly, and a little run down so I don't think I would come back other than to use the guest pass. I think I would ck out the 23rd st location since it looks newer

Bad BreakUP

This place is the hardest one to cancel my membership. (they accept only a certified mail) No real person to answer or to confirm at the cancellation department of ""the Corporate Office"", never pick up the phone and never return your call. I have joined Bally's and NY Sports Club before and the cancellation procedure was much simpler, i.e. Face-to-Face with no hustle.
BE emotionally prepared for the bad ending.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

HRC is a good gym if you're a sucker for the latest technology, but if you're focused on the basics, look elsewhere. The hefty $119 pm (vs $75-85 for competing gyms) unfortunately doesnt give much besides fancier workout machines and extraneous internet access at cardiostations (albiet with disfunctional touchscreens). Service was bad (I've left 5 messages over the last week about cancelling my membership and haven't had a single call returned, of course no one physically present at the gym has any authority), there are hidden fees ($450 pa for locker+laundry) and their ""free"" hour of fitness coaching is only a sales presentation for their $85ph training sessions. Don't buy their pitch about having a pool or 6 floors - their pool is really an oversized bathtub and its really 1 floor and 5 lofts. Thumbs down overall.
