Disagree with previous reviews

My husband and I are simply amazed to read all this praise about Tyrone, who, in our estimation, was arrogant and knew virtually nothing about the wine he recommended. We almost always got home to find it barely potable. I wonder why he was fired. No one has asked that question. I can only say that the way he carried on at the store in his big cowboy hat so full of himself, bossing other staff around, leaving customers (like us) in the lurch as we were in the middle of discussing wines with him irritated us enormously. We were overjoyed to see him gone and feel far more comfortable going to Martin Brothers now than we did during the long years he was there.

Agree with three previous reviewers

I no longer shop there unless I absolutely have to. It's a pity because the selection is good. The new owner/manager was not only rude to me in an unwarranted way, but spoke to a wine rep in a tone and style that said more about her than I cared to hear. I bought my first wine there when I came to NYC over fifteen years ago. I was a loyal customer. No more. And I take my company's reception orders elsewhere now. Pity the poor staff who remain.

Unfortunate Decline

Have to agree with the two prior reviews. Tyrone was a great person and had excellent taste in wine, from high-end vineyards to everyday bargains. You can see a marked decline in the wine selection since he left, and nothing close to the high level of customer service he provided. What a shame.

Vile, Horrible store, Used to be great.

Martin Bros used to be a GREAT store. Tyrone, the extremely knowledgeable sommelier, treated you the same if you were spending $10 or $299, and never gave you a bad recommendation.
Then the new owners came in. A woman with an English accent was not only cold and unhelpful, but took me (I am white) before two other customers who were ahead of me, and black. I was appalled, and insisted she serve those ahead of me, before me. It was blatant racism.
I will never shop there again, and the word is, they FIRED Tyrone, after 20 years. Please do not patronize this store. They know nothing of wine or customer service. But firing Tyrone is reprehensible. I hope a decent place picks him up. I would go out of my way, to be guided by a truly knowledgeable sommelier, and a decent man. The South Asians (I'm guessing here), would be better served where the caste system works for them. It doesn't work for this little white lady, NY born and bred, who won't stand for it. Boycott Martin Brothers, please! They don't deserve the dirt Tyrone waked upon.

Horrible owner fired best worker of 20 years

Do not go here! Tyrone worked there for 20 YEARS! He was dedicated and cared about every customer. Well, this new owner just fired him for no good reason! She just tossed him out! What kind of a human being does that?! Please boycott this store. This woman does not deserve your patronage! Please, if you are working class or care about them, share this with everyone.
