Despite a tasty menu, the service is absolutely horrible. During a lunch today a waiter actually placed dirty dishes from another table on our table for a short period of time. When questioned by my co-worker, he told her that he only put them here for a couple of minutes and took them away. More importantly, at the end of our lunch a huge cockroach wondered out in the open on the wall among the tasteless painting they use as decorations. As cockroach was making his way to our eye level, we pointed him out to a waiter who seemed not at all surprised and killed him with a napkin.

I tried this place with co-workers and didn't expect much in terms of quality since it was lunch time. But the dish that all of us got were satisfying (veggies w/chik, beef and veggies, general tso, garlic chik, black bean). For me to say the food was phenomenal would be a far stretch since it is kind of pre-prepared and so cheap but it does the trick when you're looking for a solid place to get some American-Chinese food. I haven't ventured over to the more authentic dishes so can't speak to that.

I have become a regular since my last review on this establishment, and it really pays to become a regular at this place. One of the perks is I am constantly awarded with some little dishes (so yummy!) from the lady manager's own dining table. :-) I've never been treated like a family member at a restaurant b/4 my experience at HB. Anyway, I visited the restaurant again this weekend because the lady manager told us a few wks back that they would be putting out a new signature dish from Shanghai area called Lion's Head in white source. Hmm, I had eaten Lion's head in Joe's Shanghai, and a couple of other restaurants specialized in Shanghai cuisine. Be honest, I was not impressed with this so called Lion's head dish at all, though, it's supposed to be one of the famous dishes from Shanghai area. But, the Lion's heads I'd tried b/4 all came in dark brown sources. So I decided to give this Lion's head in white source a try(lady manager is foodie herself, as a foodie myself, I trust another foodie's recommendation). The Lion's head was actually a dish of 4 oversized pork meatballs braised in a white source & served over a bed of greens. The meatballs were very tender and flavorful. The source was broth like and so delicious(I drank every bit of it at the end). It was well worth the $14.95 I spent on this dish. The lady manager told me that it took her head chef about 4 hrs to prepare this dish, so I instantly killed the idea to learn to make it at home. I guess I will have to come back soon to HB for another tasting of the Lion's head ( so visually cruel, imagine eating a lion's head, but so bloody delicious!).
I feel so sorry for the reviewer below who had a such a bad experience at HB since my experience with HB has been so different. I have to say I've never dined at HB during lunch time(always go there for dinner when I am in the city). The staffs have been friendly to me. So far I haven't had any cockroach encounter experience. The place seems decent to me in terms of cleanliness.
As far as the"" tasteless paintings"", I've learned that is actually the lady manager's way to help some of her aspiring artist friends by providing them a public space at free of charge to display their artworks. I have to say most of the paintings are not to my taste, but I do appreciate the warm-heartedness behind them.
This restaurant serves great Cantonese & Sichuan cookings. I've eaten there quite a few times and I absolutely love their food. One of my favorite dishes from this restaurant is their steamed stripe bass. If you like your seafood fresh, tender, and flavorful, this is the dish you must try. Another dish i would recommend is the Sichuan Beef w/ dried chili pepper sauce. To enjoy this dish, you have to like spicy food! I definitely would go back. Maybe next time I would go for the steamed flounder... yum yum :-) Last but not the least; I am just glad that for authentic Chinese food, I don't have to go to those crammed restaurants in Chinatown anymore!

We order General Tso-Chicken. this chicken was so hard. We ask the waiter that we didn't want this because it's so hard. And he reply NO REFUND. He call the manager and said what is wrong. We replied this chicken is to hard to eat, maybe it's old food. Of course now he can't talk English. Now this manager what's us to payment this bill. Nowing that we don't touch that food. I would advise all PLEASE don't eat at this place PLEASE. Next time some one will write a bad review in the Hospital. Thank You All.

I always come here for Peking Duck. It tastes better then Peking Duck House. I have been here three times and still not tired of it. Althought there are some fancy stuff on tables around me and I am always very tempted to try them, I always end up with Peking Duck and have no more space in my stomach to fit more food. I didn't know before about the old duck soup that's made with the bones from the Peking Duck. Once I overcame my shyness and asked about it and the manager said they could make soup out of those bones for me with no extra charge. Wow! It tasted great and made a good endnote for the duck meal. Nothing wasted. It's always a pleasure to come with friends for a Peking Duck super meal here.

I went with a group of 8 and we all enjoyed ourselves and the food was great. Once our order was taken, the dishes came out hot and fast. i suggest reservations if you are going with a group because the dining room filled up fast. The price was very good for what we ordered too. Try the spicy vermicelli dish!
My only negative was that we were not asked if we wanted dessert but were just handed the check at the end of the meal. Large menu and more convenient for me than china town.

Great service, great food!! I definitely recommend this restaurant. They even have karaoke til 2 a.m!! Great price too! It was only $10 per person...not HOURLY but for the whole time from 12-2 which includes food. Drinks are separate. Make sure you call and set up an appointment. I will definitely come back next time I'm in NYC!

I have had several meals here - both large ones for 30+ people and smaller ones of 2 - 6 people, and each time the food was delicious, beautifully prepared, fresh and interesting. Friendly service and a casual attractive atmosphere as well. The Butterfly Shrimp, Penking Duck, and Crysal Shrimp Dumplings are fanastic.
I have been to this place several times and enjoyed the great selection and variety of Chinese dishes. They recently added a sushi bar and serve fresh sashimi and sushi as well. They even have creme brulee now, which is as good as what I have tasted in some French restaurants. There is also plenty of beers to choose from, and during happy hour 2-7pm it's only $2.50 a bottle. Given the price range and convenient location this is probably as good as you can get, if you want to have it all. Funny though, today I went back and even found a palm reading stand right at the entrance. That is not part of the restaurant, but if you want to check out your luck...
I often eat take out at home because I don't like the cramped, rushed environment of many New York restaurants. Heavenly Bamboo is spacious and unrushed. It has more the feel of a French Cafe where you can sit as long as you want. My partner is Chinese and knows Chinese cuisine well and rates the food as both excellent and authentic. We've both traveled in China and the food reminds me of great meals in China and Hong Kong. Shanghai style dried bean curd makes a healthy, unique appetizer and Sezchuan Chili Chicken is great for people with a taste for spicey food. The owner is happy to make recommendations and the kitchen accomodates special requests. Good Chinese food in a relaxing environment--just what I've been looking for!
