Dr Sane is awesome!

Dr Sane is fantastic!! My dog is petrified of all vets (probably due to some trauma from her days as as shelter dog), but he is soooo good with her! Always greets her as ""hey gorgeous!"", and he is so gentle and kind, she actually stops her trembling once he starts looking her over. As the other reviewers say, he tries the least invasive options first, and never pushes unnecessary products or treatments. My dog recently developed ""cherry eye"", which did not respond to medication, so she went in for surgery last week. While it was very traumatic for us both, he did an awesome job and her eye looks beautiful now! He called me himself after surgery to let me know she was going well, and when I called the next day to say that she wouldn't take her pain pills, and to ask if he had any ""less disgusting"" options, he was even sweet enough to provide a new painkiller free of charge (rather than just telling me to learn to forcefeed them, which I expected. She did great on the new pills).
We had a follow-up appointment this afternoon, to check on her eye, and to go over the biopsy results for a growth he removed last week. When he learned this morning that the growth was harmless, he called me immediately with the good news, which I appreciated enormously. At our appointment, he decided to just look her over in the waiting room rather than freaking her out with another trip onto his exam table. Then smiled, and said ""she's perfect now! Go home and enjoy your happy healthy dog"". :))) Couldn't ask for more in a vet.

First Class Vet

I took my new puppy, Bea the beabull to Dr Sane and will never take her anywhere else again. She got the ""all clear"" from The Heart Of Chelsea Veterinary, hours before I rushed her to Dr Sane who immediately diagnosed her with pneumonia. He was so gentle with her and his knowledge, professionalism and lovely demeanor calmed me. If Bea could talk, I know she would say ""I like that Mr Dr Sane a whole lot Momma!"".

Dog whisperer

Dr.Sane and his staff are the greenwich village angels of veterinary medicine. There is a peacefull and welcoming energy that soothed me as soon as I walked in. My partner and I were the proud owners of a lovely 10 month old red nose pitbull angel who was terminally ill with a horrible heart condition that was exagerated by abuse of his first owners. In the short 2 and a half months we owned him, Dr. Sane and his staff did all they could to keep him comfortable but not overdose him with modern meds. I wish that Dr.Sane practiced human medicine , because I really trust him and believe he is the best clinician I have ever met. In today's digital world....very few doctors believe in diagnosing a patient from a clinical assessment. Everybody wants tests, and when those tests are done they want to do some more tests to be sure. Dr.Sane was an accurate diagnoser from the first visit and was not surprised by anything he saw. Bravo to him and his super friendly support crew.

Great Vet

I first brought my dog to Dr. Sane two years ago, and I have no complaints. He is always calm and caring with my dog, easing her nervous demeanor. He is reasonable and has never once asked me to agree to any course of treatment for my dog that wasn't necessary. I would recommend him to anyone.

Top Notch Vet

Dr. Sane at GVAH is an awsome vet. He's taken amazing care of my cat and my dog for years now. He even started treating my dog when he was still working at a feline only clinic because he'd been my vet for so long. He diagnosed and appropriately treated my now ancient cat for two difficult chronic diseases and she continues to live on, despite her body's efforts to quit. AND she's comfortable, happy and cranky as ever. (That's her normal personality, not a result of anything else.) He seems to really love my cat and dog and vice versa. Gave me excellent advice and suffered my stupid new dog mom questions with humor and patience. Got us overseas and back again without trouble from the authorities. What more can I say about the man? He's great!

Also, the facility is really nice. Very clean, sterile in all the ways a hospital should be, friendly staff, knowledgeable too, easy, low stress environment for my pet. I never feel like he's making recommendations to jack up a price, in fact, has sent me elsewhere for hospitalization because he felt like my cat needed overnight observation his clinic didn't have at the time. All the right decisions. If you're looking for a good experience, great medicine and a doctor with a conscience, I think you've found him.

Best in the West (well, east, actually, but he's the best)

I've been taking my 4 cats to Dr. Sane for over 8 years and they love him. Every time we take them in, he goes over them carefully like it's the first time they've been there. His diagnoses have always been spot on he always takes the time to explain the problem and solution. One cat live to be 19 yrs old, thanks to his advice and treatment.
He also helps us out with our rescues and always bathes them and gives them a thorough check from head to paw. The support staff is very friendly and professional and the office is clean and comfortable. This is a good practice is a fun neighborhood with all the bells and whistles. Highly recommended!

Lovely Place. Top Notch Dr. Very Patient

Dr. Sane is thorough, patient and serious about his work. He is cautious and caring. I've been taking my puppy there for six months and he has put up with all my nervous new mom questions, and never talks down to me. The place is super clean and the receptionists are truly stars! It is a great neighborhood place and I would recommend him to everyone.

Dr. Sane is a horrible Vet. He prescribed some human medicine for my dog. When I asked him for the proper dosage, he told me to look it up on the Internet. I thought this was odd, but went to the internet on my own nonetheless. I could not find the dosage (or for that matter that this medicine had ever been prescribed for dogs before). When I asked him if he could give me the dosage, he said his computer was broken and I should just keep looking. I've contacted the State of NY to attempt to have his license revoked. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Recommended an unnecessary test. Not au fait with the PET PASSPORT SCEME.

""I took my Pug to Mr Tracy Sane in October (2008) to administer a tick and tapeworm treatment on my dog and stamp his ""Pet Passport"" as we were traveling back to the UK on the Queen Mary 2. I had previously checked with him that he was familiar with the Pet Passport Scheme and he assured me that he was. However, on arrival at his surgery on October 15th (24 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE) he informed me that I should have carried out a rabies test on my dog two weeks prior to travel! I told him I was sure this was not the case, as had I not done that when I had used my dog's pet passport to travel from the UK to Paris and back. In fact, I had never heard of the rabies test he mentioned. Despite this, he was adamant that I needed the test. After two hours of frantically phoning DEFRA, JFK and CUNARD I was referred to a vets (St Marks in the East Village) who WERE familiar with the Pet Passport Scheme and duly administered the tick and tape and stamped his passport. In short, my experience of Mr Sane was that he is NOT au fait with something he professes to know about. I certainly wont be going back to him with my dog, when I return to New York in April.""

Excellent vet

My old vet never took enough time with my cat and wasn't able to properly diagnose an ongoing health problem, plus he was always overbooked and running at least 30 minutes late. I am so glad I switched to GVAH! The vet was right on time and he was so gentle and patient with my cat, which made the whole experience so much easier for her. He took his time, asked a lot of questions, listened carefully to my concerns, and gave great advice - plus food and medicine samples. I highly recommend him!!!

Best Vet I could Find in Manhattan/Convenient West Village Location

I am very picky and protective with my rare breed puppy and not only did Dr. Sane put up with my barrage of questions, he also didn't try to take advantage of my paranoia. I am one of those people that can be suckered into almost anything when it comes to my dogs and he just explained everything calmly and reassured me. My puppy loves him which doesn't hurt. The prices are reasonable for a Manhattan vet, the facilities are immaculate and the staff is super nice.

Amazing Vet Sorely Missed

I just moved away from The Village and I'm seriously considering how to continue to see Dr. Sane. The most amazing, thorough, and fairly priced vet I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The Village has so many well-cared for pets because of this man. 4 thumbs up!

Best Vet EVER!

Dr. Sane is truly a doggie/kitty whisperer. I was first blessed to have him treat my beloved Nelson Kitty at the Cat Practice and then followed him across the bridge to Williamsburg. I am so happy he has his own practice and we will be visiting soon!

Kind, knowledgable and helpful satff.

I've been taking my 3 dogs to GVAH for a few years. I found the previous owner to be excellent. She was competent, informative, helpful and kind. I find Dr. Sane to have much of the same Qualities. He's quiet and calm and seems to be very focused on the task at hand.
In all of my experience he's done a great job curing the dogs of an illness, and he informs me of preventative measures and techniques. He also seems very calm and my dogs love him. On one occasion when one of the dogs was very ill, he called the next day to follow up and see if the dog was doing any better. He invited me to drop in any time with out an appointment. Over the next week or two I did drop by for a quick check up. A couple of times. And, whether he gave the dogs some kind of treatment, medicinal or otherwise, he didn't ask for payment for the quick visit. It's times like those when I'm reminded that he really cares about what he's doing. That's just my opinion and maybe I've been lucky. One last thing; I really like the rest of the staff too. They're just as helpful, Pleasant and hard working. Nice group.

Best vet in NYC- and elsewhere!

Dr. Tracy Sane is by far the kindest (to people and pets) and most thorough veterinarian I have ever met. As a life long pet owner I can say without doubt that I would have a difficult time trusting anyone else to provide my two cats with such loving care and concern. One of my cats is asthmatic and has not had one attack since Dr. Sane started him on treatment- before he was having attacks 4-6 times per day. Other vets that I had seen before I moved to NYC were unable to provide me with any answers or hope for my furry baby. Dr. Sane was able to immediately diagnose the problem and provide my cat with a very successful treatment. My husband and I have lived in Greenwich Village for two years and I began to go to this vet out of convenience and the fact that it was within walking distance. We are about to move to the upper east side and I have no plans to find a new veterinarian up there... I will be hopping in a cab and heading to the old neighborhood when necessary to get my kitties the treatment they need.

Comforting vet

I just wanted to add to the positive reviews for Dr. Tracy Sane.
He has a soothing presence and always asks about our dog or stops for a pet when we see him around the neigborhood. He is honest about what he does and doesn't know well (Our dog has to see an Ortho specialist). It is clear how much he adores animals, and he even has a way with us humans!
We definitely recommend him for a consistent, helpful and kind neighborhood vet.

Great vet in the West Village

Dr. Tracy Sane is excellent. He took over the Greenwich Village Animal Hospital from a wonderful, caring vet who had built up the practice in the preceding several years. She had to leave the area unexpectedly due to family. We opted to give him a try and we are very thankful we that did. We take both of our cats to him. He's very knowledgeable, informative during examinations, and forthright when discussing treatment options.

Newish owner Tracy Sane is a friendly, funny, highly intelligent doctor who obviously loves animals more than life itself. I am a long-term client who followed him from The Cat Practice (he saved the life of my cat back in 2003), and I'm so happy for the tremendous success he's having now that he finally has a business of his own! Dr. Sane's staff is incredibly skilled and friendly, and the facilities are immaculate. I encourage everyone to trust the health of their furry babies to this wonderful business.

Dr. Sane is my vet because he's great.

I love Greenwich Village Animal Hospital. I seriously would not trust my dogs to anyone other than Dr. Tracy Sane. He?s friendly, very knowledgeable and honest. I really like how he?s up front about everything and just does what it takes to make your pet better without trying to squeeze an extra buck out of you, which I find a lot of vets in this city are guilty of. I can tell from the way he treats my dog that he genuinely cares about animals. My golden mix is very nervous and Dr. Sane always calms him down right away. His staff is caring and professional as well and were very gentle with my nervous puppy. A couple of months ago, my golden mix had Lyme disease and could barely walk. I was worried I?d have to carry him up the stairs (5 flights) for the rest of his life, but Dr. Sane totally cured him and now he races up there like his old self. I highly recommend Dr. Sane.
