Love the Haircut, Hate the Place

I would like to start off by saying I have received some amazing haircuts at Eiji Salon. The dry cut works perfect for my hair and I would reccomend everyone try it. My stylist is fabulous and knows exactly how I like my hair. With that being said I am terribly uncomfortable every time I have to go there. The woman who is manager makes my experience unforgettable in a HORRIBLE way. Last time I came to get a haircut the manager made my experience frustrating and uncomfortable. She walked by me in the waiting area and asked me who I was seeing and if I would like something to drink. I told her who I was there to see and asked for a coffee. Ten minutes later she walked by me again, completely forgetting my drink and asked me again who I was there to see. I told her my stylist's name and again asked her for coffee. About fifteen minutes went by NO COFFEE and the manager continued to walk past me muttering to herself and cursing under her breath. I do not want to spend my money at a salon where I feel threatened by the manager. I will think twice before I book my next appointment.

The most amazing hair experience of my life.

I've been trying to find a stylist in the city who cuts fine, straight hair. No one in the city seems to write reviews on hairdressers for thin hair. Here I am to break the mold! I saw my good friend had recently had her hair cut and highlighted. I asked for her stylist and she sent me to Johnny. He had me come in at the end of the day so he could spend as much time as he needed on my hair. Since he had never met me before and didn't know what he was walking into. He spent 2 1/2 hours sculpting my hair into my vague description of what I thought I might want. And the end result: I love it! My hair is light it has body and volume! I woke up this morning and brushed it and left. It looks like I spent hours with a blow dryer. I don't need to go back but I want to go back just to re-live the experience.
He kept the conversation going the whole time like he wasn't even trying.
I don't know how he does with the thick curly hair everyone in the city but me seems to have. But if he can sculpt texture and body into mine I'm more then confident he can help anyone.

Cynthia Varon is a true talent

I saw Cynthia Varon for a haircut and she is fabulous. It was my first time getting a dry cut and I like the process very much because of its precision (I am a bit neurotic when it comes to precision in general, so this technique was ideal for someone like me!) I have fine, straight hair, and she gave me a beautifully layered cut that looks just as great the next day (after I washed it and let it dry naturally), as it did after I left the salon. Cynthia is a lovely, warm person on top of being a talented stylist. Yes, you are warned the cut takes an hour and a half, but to be honest, from the time they shampoo you to the time you leave the salon, it's not that much different time-wise from any other place I've been for a haircut. Do yourself a favor and see Cynthia. You won't be disappointed!

Eiji Salon is simply the best!

I started my day with Ilya. He was friendly, yet professional and a real artist. He thought my hair lacked dimension as it was all one color. He spent over two hours coloring the base and then doing highlights and lowlights. My hair looked sensational.

I then went to Jiset for a haircut. I was nervous because so many people take off length and do what they want without really listening to the client Jiset has a true appreciation for curly hair and for length. The best haircut ever. She is an absolute doll. Friendly and very knowledgeable. My 50 year old body has 30 year old hair.

Erin, the manager is fabulous. The salon is gorgeous, contemporary, relaxing and very clean.

I can not recommend it high enough.

Best COLOR by Eunju

Eunju Asher has been doing my color/highlights for 2 years now and every time I leave the salon I'm extatic about my hair!!! I've been to many different salons around the city, paying lots and lots of money but I've never walked out with full satisfaction like I do now. Eunju listens to you and makes suggestions about what would look good on you and the end result is always perfect! I highly recommend this salon if you want quality work done. Try it once and you'll see the difference.
EIJI cuts hair to perfection. It is the best experience I've had in the city. Perfect haircut every other words. His whole team is trained by him.
Great midtown location, professional team that is ready to make you happy!!! The salon takes things seriously so they will do anything you desire and you'll be satisfied 100%.

Eun Ju Asher + Color = GREATNESS!!!

I am writing to express my complete satisfaction with Eiji Salon and most especially with Eun Ju's work! She is a wonderful colorist! Eun Ju is not only a delight to talk to, she gets the job done quickly (even though I have the thickest hair ever.) I wouldn't trust anybody else in NYC to touch my hair. Everytime I have gone to see her, I tell her what I would like done and she nails it on the head. Going lighter for summer or darker for winter, not a problem. She is a real gem! I have been coming to this salon for 3 years now and they have always treated me like a princess.

Eiji is the master of perfect haircuts. I feel so special when I sit in his red chair for a cut!

Hands down, I would recommend this salon and my favorite Eun Ju!!! I just

summer special

From Las Vegas and California, to New York and Philidelphia, Johnny has had the privilege to work in the cities top salons. Using a dry cutting technique he had established while working at John Sahag, he is able to create a more couture feel for your hair. Cutting and carving shapes for the desired look of every one of his clientes.

His home now is here at Eiji salon, where the dry cutting technique still continues to grow.

From August 23, to September 30th, new clients who bring a copy of this page to the salon receive 30% off your first cut with Johnny.

Poor First Impression

I called for a stylist recommendation as this salon is well recommended here on Citysearch. The receptionist - a young lady with an Japanese accent - picked up the called. She urgently needs training on professional phone courtesy. She wasn't focused and put me on an unmuted hold twice while she chatted with someone else for a total of 3 minutes. After she gave me a quick answer to my question, she ended the call with ""Alright, dear"". Personally, I find that inappropriate as I am a potential client, not a friend, family or pet. A receptionist is the first point of contact for most new clients - this experience made me question how unfocused or condescending the rest of the salon team would be if or when I go in to get my hair done.

Kash Spang

I am almost afraid to share this with fear of not being able to get an appointment when I need to get my hair cut but Kash Spang is hands down the best stylist in all of NYC and those who knows me knows that I am NEVER satisfied with a cut let alone a blowout and since I found Kash Spang, I will never let another person touch my hair. His dry cut approach is flawless.

Eiji Salon

I have been a client at Eiji Salon since it opened. I followed Cynthia Varon, my stylist, to Eiji Salon when she moved from the late, great John Sahag's salon. Cynthia is an artist and a wonderful human being. I have what one might call ""trying"" hair. Cynthia and her assistant patiently spend 1 1/12 hours cutting it to a degree of precision that allows me to get away with about three haircuts a year. The salon itself is very soothing and the staff is courteous and helpful. I could not recommend Cynthia or Eiji Salon any more highly. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment!

Don't See Angie Cha

I answered a CL advertisement to be a hair model for this salon. I received a response from Angie Cha who wanted me to come at 5:30 the next day. I confirmed my appointment and she insisted that if I couldn't make it to let her know because she could have other models take the spot. I told her I would be there.

I canceled a date and a gym appointment to make this hair modeling gig and I showed up at 5:20 for my 5:30 appointment.

I was shown to the changing room, got myself ready, sat down and waited for Angie. Finally she came over, gave me a hug and a kiss (I've never met this woman before) and she insisted that she was soooooo sorry but she had to leave for a doctors appointment at 6 that she forgot about.

She told me that she could reschedule me for Monday at 12 when I told her I was working during the day and could not make that time. She told me to come at that time anyway and she would make me beautiful. I just agreed and proceeded to leave. She walked me to the elevator and told me how sorry she was and would buy me lunch on Monday. She never called me to cancel, never called to check about her promised Monday appointment.

Needless to say I will not go back there. I scheduled a hair modeling with Cutler Salon in Soho and got impeccable service from Rebecca. Go see her!

The BEST haircuts in NY!

I've been going to Eiji since 1988, I think. A long time.

Their ""dry cut"" is ideal for anyone with thick, curly, frizzy hair. The shape is always perfect and never round. Stying is a snap with a little lotion and a diffuser.

I love Eiji!

johnny wojtanowicz

I saw Johnny in Atlantic City at a hair show I accidentally stumbled into, and was so amazed at his work. Turns out he does not work for the salon he was at for the show, but now is working here. Well wherever he works, I will always make sure I go.

He is total rock n roll and has this way of cutting that, makes me fall in love every appointment. The hair cut is precise, beautiful, and lasts for ever! I come in every two months, which is perfect for my wallet, and tells a lot about his cut.

I would follow Johnny everywhere! Once I found out that he left John Sahag I had to find out where he could have gone, or it would be the end of the road for my hair! I'd just let it grow till I found him. LUCKILY FOR ME, I have found him here and I couldn't be more happy! The salon is beautiful and the staff is very friendly!

Amazing Salon

I found Eiji under New Yorks best salons and scheduled an appointment. My hair is long and thick and finding the right person is very difficult for me, but I took a chance on this salon especially with the celeb names they serve and I wanted to have the ""New York"" salon experience. When I arrived the women at the front desk was so friendly and had someone show me to the coat area where I changed into a gown. Then I met Joseph, a stylist who knew right away what I wanted and offered some great advice on how I should cut and style my hair. I was offered a choice of beverages, and felt like a queen. My haircut and style turned out as I hoped and imagined...perfect. Although I was there for three hours, not one minute was spent waiting and I'd rather have someone take the time they need to make my hair feel wonderful then rush through it. I recommend Eiji 100%. The staff are friendly and watching Eiji ( the head stylist) cut hair was like watching Picasso paint. The cost might be pricey but I felt my hair and I were worth spending that much and at the end it was worth every dollar. Can't wait to go back!

Best Haircut I've Ever Had

As a woman with curly hair, it is very difficult to get a haircut that looks good when it isn't painstakingly straightened. Sure, it looks good when they first cut it but the next day!? Thanks to this salon, I'm having ""good hairdays"" every day! My appointment was with Kay and he was amazing. He spent a lot of time examining my hair and talking about it and how it should be cut. After the shampoo, Kay blew it out and commenced cutting. That took about an hour and I could tell he was really concentrating on every was interesting to watch. After he was done he wanted to wet it again and see it curly, but I insisted on leaving it straight - you always want what you haven't got! :) Instead, he said that when I washed it and it curled up again, if I wasn't satisfied or felt anything needed to be changed, I could just call him and he'd fix it. However, it looks great curly too so that's not necessary.
One thing I noticed was how friendly and welcoming everyone is at Eiji. There's no snobby atmosphere, even though this is a high-end salon. I'm definitely planning on going back for my next haircut - it's worth the money for the personalized and skilled haircut.

A dry cut

Normally, my hair looks nothing like what the stylist did after I leave the salon, but not this time. My hair has great movement and lays beautifully and that's thanks to having a dry cut with Cynthia at Eiji.

This was my first time having a dry cut and going to Eiji Salon. I wasn't sure what the experience would be and I heard it would take about an hour and a half to cut my hair.

First, Cynthia and I spoke about what I wanted and then I got shampoo'd by her assistant, who went on and blow-dried most of my shoulder-length hair except of the top sections.

Cynthia then took over, separating my hair and straight-ironing a section my hair to cut. Each section was first ironed straight, then cut. It was very interesting to watch the amount of focus and precision Cynthia put into the cutting and styling of my hair. The technique is completely different than what occurs during a wet cut.

Afterwards, Cynthia told me that I wouldn't need to show up for another cut for about 12-14 weeks if I wanted to maintain the length, but that my hair would retain the shape of the cut if I chose to grow it out.

It looks great and I'm really happy with the cut. Try them out!
