Dr. Coyne is a great doctor. He is very friendly, thorough, and helpful. He takes his time with you, and even has from time to time taken out a medical book or a chart of the human body and explained various things to me. It was great! Not only that, but one time while living with my brother, we couldn't reach my brother's doctor, but it was a bit of an emergency, so we called Dr. Coyne on the weekend, who went above and beyond the call of duty to be extremely helpful for someone (my brother) who wasn't even his patient! In that situation, I really felt that Dr. Coyne was there for ME. In addition, you never have to wait long to get in to see him, either, and his assistant is friendly and efficient and professional (and forgave me despite the time I didn't show up to an appointment due to a pressing work matter). I would highly recommend Dr. Coyne.

Dr. Coyne is a gem in the city. Friendly, funny, personable, short wait, and more importantly he really cares about his patients. He'll call frequently after a visit to be sure of your progress and to be sure that you get the proper care, which is far far more than I expect in an age in doctors have minimal relationship with their patients whatsoever beyond a number. Highly recommended.

Dr. Coyne is a throwback family doctor in that he seems to genuinely care about both treating a making life easy for patients. I've had other doctors in the city that treat you like a number and make you come in (and pay) them every time you have a question. When I need a prescription refilled, Dr. Coyne actually talked to me on the phone and mailed it to me, rather than making me come to his office. The same was true when he received results of an x-ray. He genuinely seems more concerned with his patients than with padding his profit margins.
I also like that he frequently consults medical journal articles in my presence - it shows that he is always looking for the latest info on cures and doesn't mind debunking the myth that doctors have all the answers without help.
Incidentally, the post from the reader concerning treatment of herpes is completely antithetical to my experience with Dr. Coyne. He is simply a caring and knowledgeable man.

this man is a terrible doctor. me friend recently went to him to get tested for the herpes virus, and was advised not to get the test, for, since he was showing no symptoms, knowing he had it would cause him guilt that he would otherwise not have when he was with women. It is my common opinon that it should be in a doctor's best interest to care about the health and well being of his fellow humans. although my friend was showing no symptoms, he very well could have passed on the virus to a woman, who experienced extreme and painful symptoms for the rest of her life. this doctor's behavior was irresponsible and innappropriate. i feel as though hes worthy of losing his license to practice medicine.
fortunately my friend did not take Dr. Coynes advise, and he chose to have the test done anyway, but this was not without condescention and scrutny of his decision on part of the doctor.
i recommend that everyone stay away from Dr. Coyne. if you need an internist, check new york magazine's best doctors in new york list. my father is on it, and hes a real doctor.
