After pricing several carpet repair shops, I settled with Carpet Culture. It is really the owner's (Javaid Bhat's) personality that sold me on entrusting him not only with cleaning but also repairing my two smaller size hand made rugs. He happened to be free on one winter Sunday and came by personally to pick the rugs up and I was taken by his breadth of knowledge and sincerity. The price he quoted for everything was totally acceptable considering the hand work that must be done to the rugs. All rugs would be hand washed and hand finished to ensure that the colors would come back up. Suffice it to say that my rugs came back with the colors more brilliant than when they left me. I am thrilled with the work Carpet Culture had done on my rugs and would highly recommend him to those who care about handmade rugs. Carpet Culture will do right by your rugs and you, of course.

One of the hidden gems one can expect to find in Soho is the store Carpet Culture. Housed in a former garage, Carpet Culture offers an interesting array of rugs and kilims whose origins span from Western Europe to Northern Africa to Asia Minor. The prorietor, Javaid Bhat is extremely knowledgeable and offers first rate service. I first me Mr. Bhat when I had returned from a Middle Eastern odyssey with some handmade Egyptian Kilims and was in desperate need of a place that could clean and store them for me. Unlike traditional Persian rugs, which any vendor on 5th avenue would gladly charge several thousand dollars to clean, Kilims pose a greater risk of ruin because of the looseness of their weaves. Mr. Bhat explained the process by which he cleans and stores the rugs and gave me every assurance that my prized possessions would be well looked after. He did not disappoint. My rugs were completely re-vitalized. Through the careful cleaning, the original colors were restoored beautifully and the fibers received no wear and tear from harsh chemicals. I was extremely pleased with the experience and have since returned to have all my rugs cared for by Mr. Bhat. I can wholeheartedly recommend this business to anyone who wishes to restore their old and valued floor coverings or is perhaps in the market for something new and unusual

Carpet Culture provides unparalleled customer service. As an Interior Designer I have had many vintage and new carpets repaired, modified and/or cleaned. All of my experiences have been nothing less than perfect. Javaid is always accommodating and gracious. Pricing on services and inventory are very fair as well. It is a comfort to have Carpet Culture as a reliable resource.

I have two cats. The cat pee has a very distinctive odor--- I called for a quote and the response was quick. I was pleased that these guys were able to get the smell out. They did a fantastic job ! My rug not only had cat pee but was covered in dust, dirt and cat hair. It looks almost new now. Very professional, reasonably priced and knowledgeable. I can truly say that I didn't make the wrong decision. The positive reviews here have to be true. I would absolutely hire them again and recommend them to my friends and family.

Nice place to shop. I love this store and I have been shopping Carpet Culture rugs for years. I furnished my living room and dining room with rugs mostly from Carpet Culture. I recently got one old Moroccan and gorgeous antique Caucasian Kilim rug. They have a great web site. You can look at the rugs before you visit this cute rug store. The rugs they carry are pretty exclusive and reasonably priced. The big plus they even do deliveries on weekends. They also clean and repair rugs. I will definitely come here again for my future rug shopping.

I looked around for places to clean my antique Moroccan rug and settled on Carpet Culture. I am very happy and ecstatic that I did! The rug came back looking much better than when I gave it to Carpet Culture and I finally saw the two different shades of the carpet, the dark and light side as all rugs should have. The frayed edged was expertly repaired and looks as though it was part of the original weaving. Thank you Carpet Culture, you will definitely see me again and would be definitely recommended to friends!

I am delighted with my experience at Carpet Culture. The owner, Mr. Bhat, is knowledgeable and courteous in the extreme --- a true gentleman --- and his taste is exquisite. There are no hard-sell tactics, and walking around and looking at the great quantity of beautiful merchandise is stress-free. Mr. Bhat is sincere and appreciative. I brought to him a century-old rug that was unraveling at the edge, and the repair, which involved reweaving, was so expertly done that it's impossible to see where the old work leaves off and the new work begins; and since the rug's re-washing the nuances of color and design stand out beautifully. I also gave Mr. Bhat a very dirty kilim that now looks like new. Most highly recommended.

Javaid is very knowledgeable and extremely courteous.
I had two antique rugs that he cleaned beautifully.
Javaid is incredibly passionate about rugs and is very happy to share his knowledge. I like to go visit his store to see the beautiful rugs he has on hand. You will get the personal attention, without pressure to buy, at this store, that you will not get at other places that sell rugs. Highly recommended for the collector or for someone, with limited knowledge, who just wants to buy a great rug. Thanks Javaid!!

This is the only review I have ever written on city search but felt it was merited. Working with Javaid and his staff was a truly unexpectedly awesome experience. He was extremely courteous, friendly and went out of his way to find the right rug for my apartment (visited the apartment a few times to come up with suggestions). He personally brought 8 rugs to my apartment to try over the course of two weeks for trial periods. There was no pressure and he offered extremely reasonable prices for the quality. Couldn't be happier with the selection and the effort from the team. Remarkable.

I was recommended to Carpet Culture through a friend who already used them a lot and was thrilled with their service. A+! We had a Moroccan rug that my boyfriend literally bought from a Berber in the mountains, and wanted an expert and careful cleaning and we got it. The gentleman were kind, communicative, helpful and very reasonable. They gave me even more info about our piece just by looking at it. Their knowledge runs deep, and its clear they care about the pieces. So nice to find such a place, thank you!
Having lived in Saudi Arabia, we own some beautiful carpets, in wool, silk; Isfahani, Gabei, Pakistani.....long or short threads. Over the last five years, I have had some of them cleaned by about every big-name carpet cleaner in the area. ONLY Mr. Bhat at Carpet Culture has handled my rugs properly. He soaked them, then gently cleaned them, and properly rinsed them. They arrived dry, beautiful and very clean. No more dog residue, no more dirt - withnd a beautiful, even pile on each valuable rug. I'm super grateful to have found Carpet Culture!
I have been looking for the right carpet for my house for two years now and found Carpet Culture on google and I was amazed at the prices and services that they offer. The rugs are pilled up like grand bazaar of Istanbul. They have gorgeous rugs and the store looks beautiful with sky lights and wood beams. Excellent customer service ! I got one old Russian rug and the prices are reasonable. They personally delivered the rug to my house and recommended the right rug for my living room according to color scheme of my house. They let you try carpets out until you find what's best for you and they also restore rugs!! I love my new rug and I no longer have to worry about my dog messing up the carpets because they really do good restoration.
Beautiful shop ! Good selection

Carpet Culture, directed by Javid, is a professional service used to handling complex problems. My very old Persian rug was worn and torn. rather than lose its value I reinvested in its restoration, it took more than a year which was a painful delay but apparently the only capable restorers were in the Middle East. Though its beauty is in its age and patina, at least now it wont tear more. Javid is very caring and attentive to your needs.

Hands-down the most beautiful carpets in the city ... Owner Javaid knows his business, from the region and history to the current market, and will work with you to find exactly what you're looking for and ultimately make you very happy.
This isn't a shameless plug - I've bought a few carpets now from Javaid and have also had cleaning and repair done to an older carpet. Five stars*, without a doubt. Not to mention Carpet Culture is located in one of the most beautiful, single story, wood baem buildings in SoHo.

Yes, of course, we went to Home Depot to look for a rug.
But something was sorely missing. My wife and I discovered what that was when we happened upon Carpet Culture located at 95 Crosby St.
It was Javaid. A charming and delightful gentleman with an encyclopedic knowledge of rugs.
Every question was followed by a thorough and thoughtful response. We bought two rugs and are very pleased with each one.
Additionally, we had an old rug restored. Looks like new.
