Outrageously expensive for what you are getting. I purchased 5 sessions for their best machine and the machine was dusty and gross. That's for $36 (plus $10 lotion). Also, when you buy a package, they limit the time that you can use your sessions, very weird. Not the newest equipment either. The place is very shabby.
The rooms have dirty-looking dark carpeting. Staff at a front desk is not very friendly. They have two stations but use one for some reason.

if you have all the time in the world this place is fine. expect to spend a minimum of 10 mins up to 30 mins waiting to put your name in, then waiting another 10-30 mins to get into a bed. They dont have any of the low level beds (so plan on spending more for the higher end beds), and for the mid level there is 1 stand up and 3 lay downs, then there are like 3 high end beds and some spray tan stations. the people that work there are nice, but they will chat it up with every random person that walks in off the street and only purchases a single tan. then the customers that have paid $150+ a month stand and wait for these people's transactions to be over. they have 2 registers but they only use 1. being that they have management issues with the inflow of customers, after waiting for 20 mins to put your name in, all the sudden there are 10 ppl waiting for 3 beds. there is also always a gaggle of hoodlums hanging out in the lobby area who are not customers, but must be friends of the people that work there. so while you wait for 30 minutes for a bed, you cant even sit down.

I've been to many tanning salons throughout the city. When I went to beachbum I was offered lotion. i never knew what lotion was for but after it was explained to me i decided to buy a packet. I went into the iBed. I came out really dark. When i got out i bought a package, which comes out cheaper than buying individual sessions and bottle of lotion

I have purchased 2 tanning packages at Beach Bum (86th and Lex) and have been severely disappointed each time. The staff could care less about the costumers and is more interested in talking on the phone and pretending like they are busy so they don't have to actually provide customer service. The place is not clean, constantly under construction, and a huge waste of money. One time I made the mistake of using the bathroom and really wished I hadn't. It was so dirty and gross - and quite certainly in violation of some sort of health code. Overall, Beach Bum leaves its customers wanting . . . wanting a clean and friendly tanning experience. To summarize, the staff is unhelpful and often disrespectful to their customers, the facilities are unkempt and not hygenic, the tanning beds are antiquated (e.g., no music as is customary in various other tanning salons) and, given the exorbitant prices, not worth the money.

Beach Bum offers new customers a free week of tanning, which is great but I will not continue to go here afterwards. .... Or maybe I would go back after the construction is finished.
- Waited in line for 20 minutes before getting to the register while two other employees were sitting behind the desk and didn't open up the other register to help the long line of customers.
- For the week of my free tanning music did not work in any of the beds that I used.
- Rooms did not have moisturizers, spray deodorant, etc.
- I highly recommend going in the ""S-Class"" bed (Platinum level). It spritzes you with water every couple of minutes and sprays aroma therapy. I prefer this to the higher level Diamond bed. Both give you a great natural looking tan.

I just started going to the Beach Bum Tanning at 86th and lex and I love it! The people are really nice and friendly, and the beds and rooms are well kept. Its a little more expensive than I'm used to, but I think I'm going to have an amazing tan after my 6 sessions!

The staff is so knowledgeable. I told my story to one of the staff, on how I first burn and then I get the tan. He explained to me that your skin must first have a base tan which wills prevent you from getting burned. So he recommended a tanning bed based on my skin and within 3 sessions I had my base tan and when I went to D-R I actually slept through the first night without a burn?thank you Arti

When I went to beach bm tan, I was at first put off by the pricing, but after I used the facilities it felt as if I had ripped THEM off. Never have I received such a great tan in my life. My friends even asked me if I had been on vacation. They have fabulous lotion, which one of the saled people advised me on. It was fabulous. My skin was soft, and it had never been as mosturized ever.

I used to go to Sundara because they had a great spray tanner there. However, I decided to try Beach Bum as the location is great and they had a $20 first time special. I was shocked and so pleased when the spray tanner from Sundara was at Beach Bum. Not only did she give me a great tan like always but I love the Beach Bum products. They are all natural and do not sting at all as other spray tan products have. It also drys much more quickly so you don't have to stand under uncomfortable lights drying for 10-15 minutes. The place itself is nice and clean and accomidating in terms of rescheduling appointments etc. They are also open all the time which really helps and spray tan from 2-9 PM most days. I would highly recommend the spray tanning to anyone from first hand experience and from what I have heard from friends the beds are great too!
