finally made it to barolo this weekend for restaurant week! started with the mussels, which were in this amazing spicy tomato sauce, got the sirloin for my main entree. cooked perfectly and came with great potatoes. definitely finished off the meal with the creme brulee which i must say is one of the best i've ever had.

i'd actually been here once before a few years back and remember it being not too great, but thought i'd give them a second chance cuz my date swore it was great. they musta redone stuff or something cuz it was wayyyyyy better. they have a really beautiful garden area that will blow you away. i ordered the rigatoni alla buterra and it was fantastic. the sausages were the perfect amount of spicy to balance the sauce. definitely will be going back way sooner than before.
I recommend checking this place out on a week day or else you're going to wait forever!!! Especially if you wanna seat in their garden patio area (which is completely worth the extra wait--it's amazing). The filet mignon is very very good. Tender and juicy, cooked to perfection.

some of the best italian cuisine in the city. I took my parents here when they came to visit (it's actually where I met and proposed to my fiance...not in the same night lol). One of those places that can be romantic when you want it to be, but also has a party element.

i had such a great time here and don't know how i barely discovered barolo...i'm always in soho. their outdoor seating area is absolutely beautiful and makes for quite the romantic setting! my bf and i had a great night here and there was soooo much wine to choose from. we split the penne alla vodka and roasted chicken and both were great. also, make sure you try their fries. BOMB.

The outdoor eating area is perfect for a romantic dinner on a hot summer day. When you eat outside at Barolo, you almost forget you're in the busy NY city. Tables are really close together, but you're so busy inhaling your delicious Italian to care too much.

I went on Christmas Eve 2010 with my wife and two daughters, 10 and 8. The decor, ambience and overall staff attentiveness were lovely. The food was also excellent. We had the wild Alaskan salmon, the jumbo prawns, the roast chicken and the ravioli with Granny Smith apple filling. All were delicious with the ravioli being an absolute (and unlikely!) standout. So was the special of bow tie pasta with an asparagus sauce. Desserts were also good-we had the fruit tart and the ricotta cheese cake. So why will we not go back? It's enough that the menu is pricey--fine, we knew that when we went. But then they nickel and dime you--my wife and I ordered martinis that were nominally $13, but when we got the bill each had not one but two ""up charges"" of $2.00 each, one for ordering them ""straight up"" and one for ""premium vodka or gin,"" for a total of $17 per drink(!). They also charged $12 for a very small side order of plain spaghetti for our 10 year old--seriously?! And, when I accidentally spilled my just served glass of red wine, our server asked if I wanted another glass and then charged for both--granted, I spilled it, but a more gracious restaurant would have comp'ed the glass. Overall, we felt that we were being squeezed for every penny, rather than being welcomed as guests. It's a shame, because otherwise we'd have loved to return.
