I will give it a few positives, the service in impecable. The horseradish sauce for the Ribeye was excellent. My wife had the asparagus which was also good. After that it goes downhill. The ribeye was tough and not very flavorful, mashed potatoes were bland. I would put my Butter-garlic Ribeye and my wifes garlic mashed potatoes against Bobby Flay's any day of the week. I would expect to be awed for $200.00 not just served a forgetable meal. Save your money for the food carts around town and you will be more satisifed. Unless your the type who eats someplace just because someone famous owns it. Good luck and good eats.

The restaurant is clean and beautiful and the service was excellent.
Having said that, let me get to the real review. I ordered the hot brown and it was like an intense salt stick. The salt was so intense I couldn't even taste the other ingredients (the turkey) in the the dish. This was soaked in salt.
It was difficult to eat because it was so salty. With all the news regarding health and salt, I question why this restaurant would prepare and serve food that is so salty. It certainly does not make the food better. It's just wrong.
My companion also said his cobb salad was too salty. I will not return to this restaurant or recommend it.

But why do they charge me $9 for fancy french fries, and $9 for Asparagus with sauce and capers. They should be included as part of the entree.
I've had better $180 meals for two - with 2 craft beers and 2 red wines (smaller thasn normal portion). As anyone heard about the NYC economy!!!

I recently planned a business dinner at this restaurant and I just can't say enough about the expert customer service I received. Everything from reservations for a large party, to the attitude of our waiter was simply superb. Oh, and the food wasn't too shabby either!!

The restaurant is in the heart of bustling Manhattan, and I decided that a great splurge would be to try one of the restaurants owned and operated by ""Master Chef"" Bobby Flay.
I ordered a delicious but overpriced onion soup. My main entree was a lobster sandwich, as was the case of my guest. We both thought it was the worst $28 dollar sandwich we had ever eaten. The toast was burnt and the lobster meat was ruined with a dressing that made it almost more liquid than solid.
Bobby Flay needs to stop being a celebrity on television, and spend more time overseeing his restaurant. The meal made me sorry that Emeril Lagasse does not have a restaurant in Manhattan.

Despite the rest of these reviews, I would recommend Bar Americain as a good find; however, don't expect world class dining.
The menu is broad enough to fit anyone's taste and some unique items are pulled from the Bobby Flay TV Shows & Challenges.
I would certainly order the prok chop again, the shrimp/grits were solid for a shop in the north, and the flank steak was prepped just as I like it.
The wine list fits most price ranges and I picked an outstanding Rioja in the 50-60 dollar range.
The dessert menu helps round out a good meal and the sides were complimentary.
Overall, the front staff & bar could be a little warmer; however, my wait service and bus staff gave good tips, were funny, and asked for my opinion on each item.
In 5 trips, I've never seen Flay there, but have heard he stops in every now and then.

We went with a party of five for New Year's Day 2010 dinner. We all love to watch Bobby Flay cooking on t.v., so we were expecting the best. I eat out for lunch every day and for dinner 3-4 times a week at very nice restaurants, so again, I know what to expect and pay for a place like this. When we arrived for our reservation(By the way, the gentlemen were dressed in suits and the ladies in cocktail dresses.), I was looking for the rest of my party at the bar area. The host became belligerent with me about checking in our coats. I said to hold on I'm looking for someone, and he was miffed. I finally gave ""mister personality"" my coat and met the rest of my party. At dinner after ordering a nice bottle of wine and 5 appetizers for the table, we asked the waiter for several small bowls to share the pumpkin soup appetizer with the rest of the table. The waiter seemed puzzled and had to go ask permission. Why does he need permission to bring out bowls!!! The waiter said no, so we called for the manager. The manager also gave us a hard time about stupid bowls. I've never seen such a thing. I go to a restaurant of this supposedly caliber for the food number one and the service number two. If I'm going to spend $800 on dinner, I want a damn bowl if I ask for one. This made the entire table angry, so we canceled our entrees and left. This place is ridiculous. I've never seem such a stuck-up staff of employees. Bobby Flay should be ashamed to have such a place with his name on it. Who cares if the food is any good, if you cannot enjoy your time there...

I recently went to Bar Americain with my family on Sunday December 6th at 5. We were a party of 10. No one checked our coats upon arrival. So we carried all our winter coats scarves etc... to the table.
The waiter seemed bothered he had to serve our table and while trying to order - mid order he left our table several times.
Every time we needed a drink we had to flag the waiter or someone who could help us. Our waiter continually rolled his eyes at us and seemed bothered we had three girls age 5 and 6, who were very well behaved.
I had the asparagus salad that had way to much dressing and only three tiny pieces of asparagus.
For my entree I had the horseradish crusted Halibut and it was drenched in salt. My daughter had the skate with out the spicy sauce. Also way to much salt. When I asked the waiter to bring a little melted butter I was informed there was butter on the table for the bread and to use that! The food came out at different times as well.
There also seemed to be a lot of drama between the maitre d' and the staff and saw him yelling at people through out dinner. They need to keep it behind closed doors. Maybe the drama works on TV but when I am paying I would like a serene dinner.
Needless to say it was not a positive memorable dining experience. This was my first and my last time at a Bobby Flay restaurant.
