OK. So, I see here that I'm not the only one that loves Brian. Not surprising. I have been going to Brian since 2006 and have never had anything other than an amazing hair cut and overall hair care treatment. I have long thick hair that has changed for a variety of natural and artificial reasons over that period of time. Through it all, the one constant is that it can be tamed and beautified by Brian.
Some of the things I love about getting my hair cut at Antonio Prieto salon by Brian:
(1) no matter what my mood going in, I always leave feeling like a million bucks;
(2) Brian manages to give me a cut that looks fantastic but is also incredibly low maintenance. I don't blow dry my hair nor do I use product; nonetheless, the cut stands on its own, requiring no maintenance on my part between cuts.
(3) Brian is totally no pressure and creates a very calming, relaxing experience. Brian is down-to-earth, interesting, nice, funny, and smart. While it's lovely to talk to him, there's no pressure to have non-stop small talk for the entire 90+ minute. It's very relaxed and I can totally zone out and just enjoy the treatment if that's the mood I'm in.
(4) Brian is totally professional. As noted above, my hair has changed a lot over the past 5+ years. I can count on getting unbiased, accurate, experienced advice no matter what my issue. And, it's *never* about trying to sell me whatever new product is being sold in the salon.
Generally, I love the salon but my experience at Antonio Prieto is all about the professional services provided by Brian Zinno.

My sister was Brian's client before me, she recommended him when I moved to the city. I can be a little ""thrifty"" so I hesitated, but since I began having him cut my hair 5 years ago, I feel there is no other hairdresser that compares and I've been going (back) to him ever since!
I have swayed here and there over the years trying a cheaper, trendy, more local salon, but I always find myself going back to Brian to have fixed what another stylist tried...
I have long wavy hair and my hair always feels healthy and beautiful when I leave. Not sure if it's just in my head, but I feel like heads are turning my way after an hour with Brian! His cut also grows out well, which serves me well when I struggle to get back on schedule and am tempted by those more local deals...
Brian is a wonderful hairdresser...a keeper!... and I worry what will happen if I ever move away from him... :)

I have been a client of Antonio Prieto Salon for several years now and for the most part, I have NEVER had a problem and have always been satisfied beyond my expectations. The salon is gorgeous, comfortable, well kempt, and the staff is awesome!
I specifically get my hair styled by Brian who is the MOST AMAZING stylist I have ever had. I am ver particular about my hair and it is not easy to work with (very long, think etc), and every time I leave there, I feel like a new super model lol. Although unemployed at the moment, I will not make an exception when it comes to the salon. If need be, I will give up some things in order to go to the best salon in NYC!

I'm so happy I found this place. It's a beautiful, well run salon with a wonderful associate's program. For a discounted price, you can see stylists in training who are MUCH more talented than most professional stylists in the city. I've been seeing Ben for highlights and Brenna for haircuts for about two years. I wouldn't go to anyone else. (They'll both graduate from the training program soon, which makes me sad--but they deserve it.)
Brenna consistently gives exquisite haircuts and blowouts. She's also crazy knowledgeable about the best ways to care for your hair. She convinced me to upgrade my shampoo and conditioner and to use a Kerastase hair mask every two weeks or so--and my hair is no longer a dry, unruly mess.Thank God. She also happily shares styling tips with you, going above and beyond what's required of stylists. It's clear she's very passionate about what she does.
Ben is fabulous--my highlights always look perfect. He came up with a beautiful combination of blond tones that looks incredibly natural, which is important to me. He's also so much fun to talk to. I've never been one to chat with my stylist, but I have a great time with Ben and always look forward to seeing him. He also goes above and beyond, and will do whatever it takes to make your hair look just like you want it to.
Everyone at the salon is nice and friendly and extremely well dressed. In response to previous comments: I always get a little massage when my hair is shampooed, and a hair coloring does include a rough dry. Once, I tried to blow-dry my hair myself, and Brenna saw me struggling and came over to help me.
They also offer free cappuccinos, tea, and coffee!

I've been going to Antonio Prieto for about a year now. When I was first going my hair was in really bad shape and pretty fried (thanks to another salon). Jen was great and respected that I was still trying to maintain length even though I needed to get the dead ends off. She is the only stylist in NYC that I've been to who listens to what you actually want. The cut always looks great. Most salons just give you the same cookie cutter bs cut but Jen is patient and makes sure she gets what you want. She introduced me to Danica for color and I'm obsessed. They both recommended kerastase for my hair and it has totally worked. I wouldnt go to anyone else in the city.

I've been going to Antonio Prieto for over 5 yrs. I had great luck with the colorists in the apprentist program (discounted price!). That said, once Kristine N. began coloring my hair, I knew I was giving up the bargain prices and paying full price!
Kristine does a wonderful job on my highlights. She takes her time, and it's like a beautiful painting of hues when she's done. Kristine is a great listener, and I always end up leaving with exactly what I wanted. Not to mention, she's someone kind and interesting that you'll enjoy getting to know during your visits.
I must acknowledge that I'm super picky about hair color...let's just say there are way too many bad dye jobs in the world. I've only let a handful of people color my hair, which often necessitates travelling to other states!
To acknowledge previous comments, my one gripe is the blow dry. Can't they include a rough dry your hair before you leave?! I hate to pay so much for my color and dry my own hair. In fact, I often choose to leave with it wet much to the staff's dismay. Kristine has offered, but I'd prefer a policy change.
If you have nightmares about a bad dye job, go to Kristine N and you'll have no worries!

All I can say is stay away from Brian . I saw him for a haircut and not only is he rude, pretentious and unwilling to correct his mistakes, but he has no idea how to cut hair! And he is a senior stylist! I can't imagine how the apprentices cut there then...
The staff overall is not friendly either.
One of the most expensive and worst haircut of my life !
Please do not waste your money.

My entire life I have battled my long, thick red hair to the point that sometimes at times in my life, stylists have turned me down to work with lol. I have been to A list salons, b list salons, and I have found the ONE that will I will never leave. I have been going to Antonio Prieto Salon on and off for 5 years. I have been out of work several times during this period and hence on and off. I ALWAYS get the best the utmost professionalism, hair cuts, service and care every single time I am there. In fact, I thought I was scheduled for a cut and color this Saturday and it turns out that my hair stylist (whom I LOVE, Brian) was out on vacation. For the mix-up on whomever's part, they offered me a free treatment ($45) and a free blow out after color. Please let me note that usually wherever you get a color, it is usual that you do not receive a blow-out on top of that. I cannot express my opinion strongly enough about Antonio, his staff and his salon. THEY ROCK and I would never say anything other than that! Thank you Antonio Prieto Salon for making me feel beautiful, cared for and on top of the world when I walk out your doors!!!

I am not sure what the hype is.. with such raving reviews versus the outcome of my haircut..
It's a very trendy hair salon, but not very friendly. No massage at all while getting the shampoo. I had Nick to cut my hair, who was a nice guy. He seemed to listen to my request but I didn't really like my haircut.
With so many deals offering from various websites, I doubt I would come back.

I had no idea what to do with my hair. It would become frizzy in the summer and straight in the winter. Luckily Brenna at Prieto Salon was able to advise me on the right style and the proper products that would prove that my hair could look good in any season. I've had 4 or 5 cuts and she has always made my hair look great. I sent my sister to her and my daughter. They are both thrilled with their cuts as well. I really appreciate that Brenna can immediately see what style to give each of us, based on our faces, our ages, our hair textures, and our lifestyles.

I used to go to this salon for my haircuts, they were good, until I showed up one day for a cut from an apprentice hair stylist who literally had an eye infection and as a result had to remove one of his contacts. His eye also continuously watered (to the extent that every 10 seconds he had to wipe away a tear). This stylist was actually going to cut my hair! He couldn't see! But, he assured me everything was 'ok'.
I thought it was a joke, but no, he was serious. I cancelled the appointment, and left. If the salon would have called me and explained to me the situation, I would have gladly rescheduled! Instead, I wasted my personal time trekking down to the salon, only to have to cancel. So unprofessional!
Not learning my lesson, I went back, a few days later and saw a stylist (not an apprentice) for a haircut. Despite saying I didn't want short layers, he gave me them. He put layers in my hair that were 2 inches long (total length), while the rest of my hair was down to my chin. I couldnt believe it. I understand artistic license if the result is going to look good, but the haircut was so bad that I wanted to hide for 6 months. Needless to say, I haven't been back.

This little barber shop has the nerve to demand additional money to dry your hair after charging over $100 for a single process (coloring of the roots). If, however, you opt out of the shake down and do not want to pay for the ""extra service"" you can either (a) dry your own hair or (b) just simply leave the dump with a wet head.
Don't be fooled by other reviews on how nice the rat hole looks. It is just another replica of that ""bathhouse new you"" look. Additionally, instead of assigning 3 employees to serve tap water and luke warm coffee, it might be a better business practice to direct those idling extra bodies to blow out clients hair. I mean, clients go to antonio prieto's ""salon,"" not cafe.
Clients should also be hesitant to go into the bathroom. The humongous square sink is a host to millions of black rocks. And those black rocks likely host and then breed countless STDs.
Last reason to AVOID this dive- the staff push too many products on clients.

My hair looks, and feels amazing! I'm a blonde with very thick hair, and have been getting highlights done to my hair for 10 years now and have never had them look so well blended, with so many dementions.
Today Benjamin Everin at Antonio Prieto Salon colored my hair. He brought it to my attention that I have a lot of golden in my natural hair color; with this he added high and low lights blending in with a golden color(not just bleach) and my hair color looks so great! It's perfect for the fall, not too blonde, but still pops. I love it! He has such a fun personality, I had a blast.
Next I had my haircut with Brenna Fletcher. She truly is such a wonderful person, so sweet. In the past no one ever knows how to shape my very thick hair. I feel it's always weighing me down. I have to say, I've had so many compliments on my haircut! Brenna knew just what to do, to keep the length, keeping it healthy, and to add so much life and lightness to my hair. I feel like I've lost pounds of hair with all of the texturing she's given me.
I've never been more satisfied with my hair! I can't wait to show it off!

I cannot say enough positive and complementary things about stylist Dan Islava. I have had various experiences at NYC salons, but never have I received such accomplished, creative, attentive and personal service until my association with Dan. He was recommended to me back in January, as I had been growing my hair out for a few months and had wanted to create a new look for my challenging head of hair. He has been extraordinarily genuine in consulting with me and shaping my look for the past few months, as I continued the growing. He has allowed me flattering texture and shape all along the way, recommending excellent and affordable products and styling techniques throughout – and, just this week, we have finally cut my long-enough hair into absolutely the best haircut I have ever had. I have received a ridiculous amount of compliments and, best of all, I feel so good about it all. I wholeheartedly recommend Dan to anyone seeking simply the best couture salon service in NYC; impeccable, courteous, invaluable. I will never go anywhere else again.

My hairdresser recently moved away, so I was on the hunt for a new place. A friend suggested Antonio Prieto Salon, and I am forever grateful.
I made an appointment to see Brenna and she did an amazing job. I didn't give her much direction but she knew exactly what I wanted and gave me quite possibly the best cut I've ever received. It's been almost a week since she cut my hair, and people at work are still raving about my new do.
Not only did Brenna do an amazing job, but the customer service is above excellent. Brenna recognized I was losing my voice, and immediately brought me camomile lavender tea. She was extremely friendly and attentive. I also loved that she gave me styling tips while she worked. An incredible salon experience that I highly recommend!

I have been coming to this salon for more than 6 years and consistently get great service.
Jasellynne is the best stylist I ever had. She has a great sense of style, talented hands, and amazing capability of making my hair long, healthy and beautiful.
Salon itself is very well organized, stylish and very clean. Everyone who works here are very professional and helpful. Just love this place.

Since moving to New York 5 years ago, I hadn't had my hair cut by the same person twice until a friend recommended Jacelyn at Antonio Prieto. I have naturally curly hair and Jacelyn gave me a cut that looks great curly or blown out. Of course, I was very pleased with the immediate results, but then noticed that the cut grew out really well too. My friends noticed too! An added bonus is that you get a free bang trim between cuts, which really helps, because even though it's not super pricey, no haircut in New York is cheap.
After being so happy with Jacelyn, I started getting color there too. They offer an apprentice program for the colorists with extremely reasonable prices. Danica does a great job- I love my new color!

As any of you might have experienced, changing stylists can be a very scary thing. With great trepidation, I made an appointment to have a haircut at Antonio Prieto, relying on the receptionist to assign me a stylist. When I walked in, I was blown away by the decor and the friendliness of the staff. It did not feel snobby or intimidating at all. Dan came up, on time I might add, and introduced himself and I steadied myself, hoping that this would turn out to be at least an ok experience. Well my expectations turned out to be too low - Dan was wonderful. We had a thorough consultation by which he offered suggestions, specific to my features and he made me feel at ease with his display of knowledge and skill. This was one of the very few times that I did not run home to wash my hair and restyle it myself. I ended up with a stylish, sophisticated style with long fringe that shined for weeks (due to the Kerastase treatment). I highly recommend the salon and particularly Dan.

This is the best salon in the city. I highly recommend it The atmosphere and decor are great and it is a very relaxing and friendly environment.
Jasellynne is the greatest hair stylist. She is so talented and I always love my hair. I come every 2 weeks for a blow out and I am always happy when I leave. Her blowouts and cuts are absolutely flawless.
When she is finished my hair is left silky, shiny, and full of life.
She is very friendly and down to earth.During every visit she is attentive and meticulous. She is very efficient with time. She is a great listener and always gives you exactly what you want. I am never afraid to try a new haircut because I know she will always make it work for me. She will never give you a ""one size fits all"" hair cut like many other stylists.
She has a diverse set of clientele. I have seen her do an amazing job on all types of hair and she is great with African American hair.
I have been coming here for 2 years and can say that Jasellynne's clients always walk out of the salon satisfied. Her clientele continues to grow because her talent is unmatched. I highly recommend Jasellynne, You will love her!
