Depending on the normal ceiling top bar and depending on other opinions, my think is that if I were composing a evaluation for a Sunday evening, it'd be very inadequate but that's real of most locations, no? Such is why I'm a satisfied time young lady only. No collections, less douche-bags, and low objectives makes for a more enjoyable evening.

2 words, bottle. service. If you are from NY, and know how to have an amazing time, it wouldn't even be a question. Some save it for a special occasion, but if you're like me, every chance I get out is a special occasion. Bottle service for 6 people is about 300 bucks. Thats $50 a person. Why would I go somewhere and pay 30 cover and have 2 drinks? I had my own table on the ROOF, yes the rooftop with the amazing view. and HELLO! No line. 1 bottle was enough for my and my girls with the addition of ordering off of the bar menu. The wontons, are ADDICTIVE. My server, i think her name was Laura was as great as she could be with the other couple hundred people there that night. Oh, and the sparkler that came with the bottle, made my night out even more special :)

My company had a happy hour there tonite. It was very contemporary and the fact that they had red robes for you if you became chilly was a nice bonus. The drinks were the standard price for NYC.
The views were incredible which is actually why you would go. This place is definitely worth your while.

Gorgeous view and bar. Came here on a Wednesday night. Lots of after work people - I'll give it another try as I'm hopeful I can find a night when it's quieter so I can enjoy the atmosphere as I feel it was intended by the designers.
5 stars for the view, size, beautiful people.

I got right in.... no cover. Drinks are kind of pricey...but it is NYC. I was drinking champagne and I think they cost $14 a glass. We probably had 20 drinks sent to us by men, if not more. Also, I am not a model, actress or anyone special and I do not think I am attractive, but whenever I go to NYC the men treat me like a Queen. I am thinking I need to move to NY!! HA! The men are very, very generous here. I think the men in NYC are just a better class than they are in DC.
Huge mix of people from all over the world and different ages. The funniest man up there was a guy named Henry apparently everyone knows who he is and comes by every night! He makes his own clothes how cool is that! He was wearing this very colorful outfit it was outrageously cool.
Met some guys from Spain and the the guys from Spain are hot!
The view is the number 1 factor here. The crowd number 2, size number 3, no cover number 4 , red robes are you kidding me red robes!

First of all, I never write reviews of places I go. Some places are better than others but I don't need to take the time. I actually signed up for a Citysearch account and am writing my first review ever because of last night.
I went over to 230 fifth to meet a group of friends there on Saturday night. I had heard about the rooftop bar and was looking forward to it.
When I got there I saw a line of about 50 people and asked the doorman how long the wait was and that I was meeting a group already up there. He said, without making eye contact, ""First come, first serve, I need you to go to the back of the line."" So, ok, I waited in the line for like two minutes the line moves fast!
They just make you wait until people leave and then allow more people in. and they have plenty of elevators unlike other rooftops i have been to that looks like an underground basement entrance. This entrance can be confusing as well looks like an office building
When I arrived to the inside floor i wasn't that impressed but walked up the stairs to the rooftop and i was shocked how amazing it really was. I could not stop thinking about when my friends visit they would totally love it.
1. Palm trees on a rooftop in manhattan.
2. Red robes!
3. many many flowers
4. The crazy view, i mean i have never seen a view like this.
music was ok but atleast wasn't loud that you can't have conversations.
food looked good didn't try it.
but i would def come back.

After having had a bad experience my first time at 230 fifth, I have to say that the customer service here was top notch the second time I went. The managers clearly want their patrons to have a good time at their venue. This was made very apparent to me by how nicely all staff treated my friends and I when I returned here this past Saturday night.
Any place that cares as much as thsi rooftop about pleasing their customers is worth a visit.
It is definitely a fun place for a birthday party (if your friends are into a busy scene on the weekend!)! My waitress a) had the biggest boobs I'd ever seen and b) was one of the nicest people I've ever met. She was extremely helpful with my party, constantly checking in to see if we needed another bottle, more chasers, more ice, more anything more smiles. At some point, I half expected her to offer up her body to me (jk!).I would be lying if I said I didn't have an amazing time here this past weekend!
If you want an awesome view of the Empire State Building and a unique view of the city go to this place during the day. It is truly breathtaking!!! To sit and enjoy a drink all year long (they have heaters and robes in the winter). Or just relaxing from a day of sightseeing it is truly amazing. If you like the nightlife this Rocks! This a must see for tourists and the tourist at heart!

I just wanted to write and say how much I love 230 Fifth.
I've been going for about 3 years now and it's my favorite upscale bar/lounge in the city.
I bring all my friends from out-of-town here and even bring my in-town friends here, and they all love it.
This is the list of reasons I love 230 Fifth
No cover- I'm cheap, what can I say? And, I hate paying for cover.
Not overcrowded - Despite not charging for cover, you don't overcrowd the place. Even at the very worst I've seen, there are still plenty of places you can move to to get some space and air.
Great view - so I can bring my out of town friends for the view, but even for myself and in-town friends, the view is just nice to see.
Prices are in-line with standard NY pricing - Despite you guys not charging cover, not overcrowding the place, and being on a rooftop, you guys aren't charging $20 for a drink. Your prices are very in-line with standard NY pricing. Maybe you guys are actually expensive since I'm comparing you to club drink prices, but whatever, you're reasonable to me.
Line is never long - the very longest I've ever waited was 15 minutes in line. I think once on a particularly busy night, you guys stopped letting people in and the rest of the line, including myself, had to go elsewhere unless we wanted bottle service, but that was once in my 3 years of going to 230 Fifth.
Bouncers aren't a##holes - Forget that, your bouncers and security are actually very friendly. I never thought I'd use the words ""friendly"", let alone ""very friendly"" in the same sentence as ""bouncer"". This past Saturday night, there was a fat security guy up on the rooftop, bald, very friendly.
Clientele isn't trashy - I've seen one or two trashier patrons get in, but for the most part, the crowd is ""upper middle class"" to upscale, which is my kind of crowd.
As I tell my friends, it was like God knew what I wanted in a upscale bar/lounge and created 230 Fifth just for me.
The only way 230 Fifth could be better is more heat lamps during the winter and more fans during the summer for when it just gets really hot.
Anyways, you may not really care, but I brought my flight attendant friends who recently got based in New York to 230 Fifth a few months ago and they just told me when I was hanging out with them on the rooftop level this past Saturday night that they tell every passenger who asks them for recommendations about 230 Fifth.
In conclusion, I can genuinely say that I hope 230 Fifth is around for the long haul.

Where can you meet lots of drunken foreigners looking to hang out with some ""real"" Americans?
Where can you gaze upon the beauty of Manhattan from the heights of a balcony while being repeatedly approached by various strange guys utilizing the most creative pick-up lines you've ever heard in the most obscure accents you've ever heard? (e.g. **Italian accent** ehhh excuuuuuse me, are you the von (one), who goes e-rrrrrunning, on ze fifth avenue every morning? I like it when ze vomen go running, it makes me want to do ze sexually after) -- verbatim, true story.
Where can you dance while still having the ability to go up to the roof and have a normal, or even interesting, conversation with someone without having to shout? And where can you be provided with complimentary snuggies to cuddle under while you're shmoozing or running away from male predators on the roof?
Where can you go to hang out with your friends and accidentally end up on TV afterward as the target of a pick-up-artist seminar? Why, 230 5th of course.
230 5th is the kind of place you go to when you want a really silly, ridiculous night out on the town. I have never gone to 230 5th without having hysterical tales to tell the following morning, because there's just so much random shiz going down at any given moment. It turns out that 230 5th is one of the leading places to hold pick-up-artist seminars, which explains why many of us get struck with the veritable gems of the pick-up-line world. It's also fairly easy to get into for guys, and the crowd is generally pretty good-looking and fun.
The drinks are overpriced, but the view is phenomenal, and though there are probably many places that beat 230 5th on a whole array of levels, 230 5th gets 5 stars from me for being reliably hilarious every time...and for providing me with the opportunity to accidentally be on TV for two embarrassing seconds.

We had a great experience visiting 230 5th on our recent trip to NYC. It was a Thursday night and there was no cover and no wait for the elevator or to be seated on the rooftop patio. Although it was cold and windy, almost every seat has a personal heat lamp and they provide complimentary red robes with hoods to help keep you warm. The red robes give the patio a unique atmosphere - like sitting in the middle of a cult ceremony.
The view of the empire state building is awesome but you can't see too much else from the roof given the high walls and plants. The patio was full of people - mostly couples and small groups. There didn't seem to be much socializing going on and there is no dance floor. We ordered a couple of drinks and the service wasn't fast but not too slow either.
After hanging out on the roof for a bit, we went down to the lounge to warm up. It was pretty empty but the window tables were marked reserved. We settled down at a table in the middle but still had a great view over the city. No waitresses ever stopped by but we already had a drink so we didn't care.
I definitely recommend checking this place out for drinks and a great view - at least on a week night!

I had a group of around 100 people for the holidays. AccessGotham suggested 230 Fifth for the view, the cool drinks and the status. They didn't even charge to book it and I got free bottle service.
The sun was coming down and everybody had their iPhones out and were shooting HD video. There were so many people who wanted to get in and I just sipped my margarita and waved to the little people.

I came to the rooftop while it was snowing very lightly.
It was so amazing and beautiful to be sitting under a heater while wearing a cozy robe and drinking a hot cider drink.
Views are unreal! the buildings of the NY skyline lit up while watching the snow fall from the sky was the best experience I could have asked for.
I hope you have the opportunity to check this rooftop out even in the colder weather.

Let's get the downsides out of the way first:
- the Red robes everyone wears make the place look like a Snuggy Convention
- the cocktail list is pretty meh
but those minor inconveniences are dwarfed by the fact that :
"" WOW ! I'm in NY on a ROOFTOP BAR DRINKING A MANHATTAN AND I'M LOOKING THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING RIGHT IN THE EYE!""
Well, not quite the eye, maybe the navel, but still, a fabulous experience, and the more manhattans we had the more we enjoyed it.
An expensive night out - but a very good one.
I can't think of a better place to bring friends from out of town to show off NYC. the views are the best i have seen from a rooftop that serves great strong drinks.

Came here last night for a work function. Had over 500 people and i was very impressed with the venue.
The staff seemed very ontop of every aspect of service.
I have attended many work functions in the past and this tops it all.
They pay attention to detail from the check in process that was very fast and efficient. To the food distribution. Not only the size and quantity of the trays but number of staff and presentation esp quality of the food as well.
I figured I should right this review even though its open to the public as well and not just an event space but had to give them the 5 stars they deserve because of the amount of work they must have invested for this amount of people.
So i would personally like to thank everyone on the staff for last nights events myself and many of my co workers were really impressed.
I will recomend this venue for any future events my company may host.

1 - The view. My god, the view.
2 - It seems like all the guys are complete douches and the women unreasonably attractive. So if you're with a fun group, there's ample opportunity to hang out at a table with some beverages, drink in the view, and either ridicule the sloppy I-banker or sneak glances at the fiery 6'8"" beauty from Brazil.
3 - It affords me the rare opportunity to pretend like I'm a wealthy socialite living the dream in New York City for one evening, when in reality, I'm a broke-ass medical student that won't earn my first dollar until I'm 30, married, and picking out funny names like ""Dagoba"" for my firstborn child.
Try it out at least once, you won't regret it.

If you're a tourist, this is a definite 5 star place to go. The rooftop bar is open 365 days a year through all sorts of weather. Even now when the high winds freeze your face and make you wonder why you're drinking on a rooftop bar, they will keep this place open and provide you with red robes and heat lamps to keep you warm. I guess tropical paradises also have monsoons.
The biggest part about 230 fifth is the status and the experience, so if it's your first time in the city, go during the afternoon and just sit on the roof sipping some $4 coffee or $8 Irish coffee. The night scene is just way too crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. You'll need to dress up and wait on line around the corner to get in.Even though i have heard it moves fast just not for me. If you're into that type of thing, be my guest, but it's not meant to be a club or anything. It's just a rooftop with a nice view and expensive drinks.
That being said, if I wanted to go somewhere to drink, I dont' think I would personally choose 230 Fifth unless I had someone to impress or I was showing someone around from out of town/country. It's definitely an interesting place to go for some eye candy, but who are you fooling - it's not like there's anything extra special about their $12 cocktails. Personally, I would go to to a local bar for many drinks and wont be super crowded.

Came to the Rooftop Garden for an early dinner with an old friend. Gorgeous setting, warm sun, beautiful view. This is what NYC is about for me! We stayed for a while after our meal just chatting and enjoying the vibe. Great place to come with your sweetie!
Vegetarian Kari ""curry"" Puff: Crispy pastry stuffed with curried vegetables
- fantastic, but couldn't finish!
French fries: Nice and crispy, could barely finish!
Pineapple Coconut Martini: yum!
Calamari: Large portion - good!
Passion Fruit Martini: Strong!!!
A bit pricey (I was being treated-yay!), but the portions are plentiful! Enjoy the view! Menu
