UPDATE! Hi all, I just went to Gio again for my opti.smooth retouch and I wanted to let everyone know how it went. I initially had opti.smooth done about 2 years ago by Gio. Fantastic. Then I got my first retouch done at another salon (J christopher) one year ago bc they were really cheap. But you get what you pay for. Seriously. He left out a few chunks of hair that I had to straighten daily (defeats the purpose of straightening!). I was livid. No one at that salon cared. So, another year passes and it's time for my re-touch. I didn't even hesitate about going back to Gio. I will NEVER go anywhere else for opti. My hair is PERFECTLY straight and smooth. I literally let my hair air dry and it looks great! No damage. Gio puts so much time and care into every strand. Trust me. I have something to compare it to! She does not miss a piece!!! And I really like everyone in the salon. They're cool. Not pretentious. very accommodating. I'll be going back in another 10-12 months for sure. PS- she fixed the mistakes that they made at that stupid other salon that I've been living with for year. If you're doing opti.smooth, do NOT consider another salon. Gio does opti.smooth's all the time (another woman was leaving after her opti.smooth when I was coming in) so she has the experience. She's so sweet too and will happily answer any questions you have. I'm happy to answer questions too - from a non-hairdresser/expert perspective if you're feeling nervous. I've sent one co-worker and one friend to Gio for opti.smooth (one cold and one hot process) and they've both been as happy as me. Hi everybody, about a month ago, I had the Opti smooth hair straightening (the thermal smoothing) at Gio...and I couldn't be happier!!! I had wavy hair with tons of frizz, now I can leave the house without any product or styling and look half way decent! IT's not perfect (the ends still have some body- but I didn't want stick straight hair and that's why I didn't do japanese straightening). My hair was "virgin" - no other chemical processes or coloring in years, so it took to the process very well. The only thing is you cant shower for three days (so do it on a thursday night that way you can shower before you go to work monday morning). I've gotten tons of compliments and I truly couldn't be happier!!! It's expensive ($400 at Gio Salon in NYC) but worth every penny! I'm very cheap cheap cheap, but again I'd do this again in a heartbeat. I can't believe how soft and manageable my hair is now. If you're considering and have any questions, let me know. I did so much research before hand because I was SOOOO nervous (I've never done any straightening or chemical processes before) but I know I chose the right process. For me, japanese straightening makes your hair look damaged and too stick straight, BKT brazilian straightening uses either formaldehyde or ether, or I don't want to breath in either! So opti.smooth was the right pick for me, but everyone's hair is different!! Just PLEASE MAKE SURE you have an experienced hair dresser that has been doing the process for years and has regular clients that get it done (you can even ask for a client reference if you want). I went in for a complimentary consultation with Gio before hand and she answered all of my questions and made me feel more at ease. Bottom line, get an experienced stylist and be UPFRONT about anything that could affect the process (any meds that you take, any highlighting, henna, coloring, if you swim a lot, if you're in the sun everyday, etc). GIO is a great salon to do it at! (P.s. you can ask for a first time client discount!) Thanks! :o)
No appointments are needed because there are enough women there to take you without too much trouble. Yes, there can be slightly extended wait times during the peak days and times but they're not bad enough to warrant creating an appointment system. They open every day and have long hours. After you find street parking (which may take a while), just walk right in and head to the back where one of the women will wash your hair with some sort of wonder-shampoo and conditioner. Feel free to bring your own shampoo/conditioner but it'll cost you a few extra dollars. After the wash ritual, someone else will set your hair in the magnetic rollers and sit you under one of their VERY HOT driers. A word of warning for those who are intolerant to the heat...don't be afraid to ask to turn it down a couple notches because you will be uncomfortable the entire time and that is no fun at all. Grab a magazine or dig for the book you brought with you and hunker down for the next 45 minutes to an hour. I would recommend checking the dryness of your hair to make sure that it's completely dry when the timer is near its end because there is nothing worse than sitting under the drier, thinking that you're all dry and then when the stylist gets you 10-15 minutes after the timer has ended, she sits you back under the drier for another 20 minutes. When you're finally dry, be prepared for yet another hot blast where the stylist blows out your curls and roots. Yes, you'll want to cry when the heat is on your scalp but your hair will look so good. :) If you want a doobie (hair wrap), have your pack of bobby pins ready for your stylist to use as she works her wizardry of wrapping your hair around your head. If you forgot to bring hair pins, they'll use their own but that will cost you a little more but not much. Oh what I would give to be able to go to Lila's every week! Why don't they have these kind of salons on the west coast??? Lila's is one of the top local spots I miss the most about NY (yes, I'm easy to please). It's cheap enough to go every week if you have the time as it costs no more than $25-$30. And that is after tips...and please do tip the women.
That was an interesting and costly experience. First I'd like to be clear that it sees the employees at Antonella's seem very well-trained and professional. I was immediately invited to the shampoo station. Received my shampoo. Received my haircut. That was fine. The shave was what was interesting. I've never had such an elaborate and time-consuming shave in my life. First, he put shaving cream on my face. Then he put a hot towel on my face and wiped most of it off. Then he put more cream on. Then he began to slice. After he sliced most of it off, he put another hot towel on my face. Thought I was done, but nope. He put more cream on and began to slice more. After many minutes passed, he rubbed some type of gel on my face and began to shave every single solitary hair left on my face until my skin was aching and raw. This must have taken 15 minutes in itself, and there was no shortage of him pausing to give me other treatments, such as placing another hot towel on my face (OUCH!), putting talc powder on my face, then rubbing it off and putting some sort of ALCOHOL based on treatment on me. That REALLY stung. Finally, he rubbed some more stuff on and finished off with more talc powder. I also got a gel treatment. I've never had someone so intimate with my face before. The cost? A cool $67.00 total. I was shocked. I just wanted a hair cut.I gave a $15 tip because they did good work, but that's salon-like pricing. Fortunately, my face never felt so good before :-)
My Mom gave me a gift certificate for a colonic for my birthday. I couldn't believe what a terrible present it was and thought maybe she had started to hate me - lol :-). I decided not to let the money go to waste and made the appointment. I was surprised: the whole experience was pleasant and relaxing. The therapist was really friendly and obviously very experienced at making people feel comfortable. The hour flew by. After the treatment I spent a little time in their waiting room sipping herbal tea (felt like I was in the tropics) and picked up a flyer on a new therapy called the Metatron. I have a chronic circulation issue that's caused me to be on medication for several years and I've been looking for a more holistic approach to understanding the underlying cause. This afternoon I went in for my first Metatron appointment and was utterly amazed. The system scans your body and gives information about biological imbalances. It immediately picked up on the precise location of my circulatory problem and pinpointed specific pathogens that were contributing to the condition. In short, it confirmed a lot of what I already knew from medical testing, but in addition gave me information on the root causes so that I can treat them. I've had 2 great experiences so far. I wouldn't recommend the place if you can't do stairs (there's no elevator and the stairs are steep) or if you're looking for a high-end luxurious place. Guess what mom's getting for her next birthday...
I had problems with my skin since I was a teenager,For years I went to a number of dermatologist just to receive some temporary relief but never satisfactory. I found Le Cachet Day Spa on Line, made an appointment just for a skin consultation, they examined my skin and suggested the facials I would need. Honestly I expected a facial around $75.00 I was told that I would just waist my money, since the facial I need is a customized facial, specially designed for my skin with two different treatments, the price is $300.00 after thinking a bit, I agreed. I have to admit that I am glad that I decided to proceed with my facial treatment . I remembered my father used to tell me, you always get what you pay for in this life, he was right like always. The facial I received was an intense treatment like I never had in any doctors office nor other spas. The aesthetician cleaned my skin using some kind of European deep cleansing techniques, it was a little bit painful, I could feel how my skin is being really cleaned. After she begin with a second treatment using an organic papaya and apricot enzyme peel. My facial lasted over an hour, with relaxing music in the background. I don’t believe in miracles, but after the first treatment my skin had a tremendous visible improvement. It’s over a week now, at work everyone realized that my skin got better.I am looking forward to my second appointment in 4 weeks. O Yes, I definitely highly recommend Le Cachet day spa.
I am an African American women, who was always told, that since our skin color we cannot have a successful laser hair removal. I also seen some news report where African American clients have been scarred by lasers during hair removal, and that kept me a way from doing it. I am so glad that I found Le Cachet Laser Hair removal center, I knew that in order to perform Laser hair removal for our skin it has to be laser specially designed for black skin. It is my last treatment and I have no hair nor any scaring. As a young women I had a problem with facial hair which contributed to my acne problem. At Le Cachet I felt from the very beginning that I am in good hands, I had a strong impression, that they knew what they are doing, they made me feel comfortable and secure. I had 5 treatments and I am pleased to see such a wonderful result. My laser hair removal being done by Larisa who is using a special YAG laser for black skin. I already recommended Le Cachet Laser Hair removal to my girlfriend. I also like the fact that the place is spotless clean, the staff is professional, I found them very ethical since they told me from the very beginning that I will need at least 6 treatments. In many other places they tell you, that most is 3 treatments you will need, don’t believe in that , they just want you to start. I also very much recommend Le Cachet Laser Center.
I've been to several different spas in Manhattan and around the world before I found 212 spa. I read all of the reviews before visiting the spa and was a bit nervous about what my experience would be like. I was very, very pleased with the service! When I arrived 30 minutes early, I was greeted by first name and shown around the spa. I changed into a comfy robe, some great massaging sandals and relaxed in the steam room where I met a very nice young guy from Texas. My first treatment was the body polishing a dead sea salt glow (actually, i first started with a body shampoo) followed by the swedish massage. The male massage therapist was very attentive to pressure points, scents, comfort, etc and would have to say the best massage I've ever had. I finished with a one hour facial which included the extractions and a nice mask. The products were all explained to me, but there was no push to buy (which i appreciated)! As a side note, I had a booking conflict and the spa was very accommodating to change certain services in lieu of another; as the host put it "you're the guest and we'll do what you want". I have to say the customer service, knowledge and expertise at this spa has been some of the best i've ever had. Definitely highly recommended!

Bright Skin Care Salon it is great! Very clean and professional Estheticians, right on middle Manhattan! First waxing i ever had and first ever Brazilian bikini wax and I am extremely happy with the experience and with the results. Annie is amazing! She made it very comfortable and has painless as possible for me. This place is extremely clean. I was greeted with a beverage which was pleasant. She have super comfortable table that has a light aromatherapy to it which I loved. Annie also has all these extra oils and ointments that left me with an amazing looking bikini area. -- it didn't hurt! I had no rashes, or bumps or missing spots... I was simply flawless the rest of the day. I'm never going anywhere else. She uses a different type of wax that I'm used to, and there was really little to no pain at all! What I also loved is how knowledgeable and informative Annie is regarding hair growth and the waxing technique. It put my mind at ease that I was under the care of an experienced master esthetician. HUGE TIP...
Dear Julia, you were recommended by a dear friend of mine, I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed your facial. I have been going to other spas in New York City for years, but after receiving your facial I felt like this was my first facial comparing to other facials I have received in my life time. In the beginning I was a bit hesitant to have two treatments as you recommended after our consultation, you offered the Blueberry Enzyme peel and the special facial for dry skin. I thought it was a bit expensive, but after seeing the result.., I am your client for the rest of my life. Please note, I recommended your spa to my co worker Caroline, after experiencing your facial she was talking about it the whole day. I am so glad that I find you, unfortunately when you reach 40+ we girls need people like you, to take care of our skin. The phone number of Le Cachet Spa is in my cell phone so I will not loose it. Thank you, and I am looking forward to see you again. Monica
