Steven is hands down the best stylist I've ever been to! I started going there just over a year ago, and my hair was bleached out, breaking off and just in terrible shape. He gradually transitioned me to a beautiful dark shade of blonde with highlights and I love it! My hair is now thick, soft, healthy and fabulous! I will continue to go there forever!

I love love love Steven. I've been there twice, and both times I have gotten amazing cuts. I try to take his advice aka change part/ length, and he is always so right. I wait almost a year if I'm not in town to get a Steven cut, and he is such a genuinely nice person to boot. I always leave feeling absolutely beautiful. If you ever need a pick me up , or feel like you might need a different look, go here!

I agree with NOLAmimi. As a previously-natural redhead, I know how difficult it is to get this color right. For years I've searched for the right person to do just that. After Hurricane Katrina, I had to start over and was very nervous about making the right choice. Not only did Steven convince me to change the brand of color I use, he gave me a new cut.
It's all good! I get compliments daily. The color looks as natural as any redhead you've ever seen. Plus, I love that he keeps you on your toes and suggests updates periodically so the look doesn't become stale. He's very talented as proven by his years in business and many repeat clients. Plus, Reena can style hair like nobody's business....she's great!
The year is 1988, I am 14 years old, and I am going to an 8 O'clocks dance. I have a pretty pink dress and need a nice up-do to finish my look. Somehow, Steven made me look and feel beautiful. He continued to do so through every high school, college, grad school and pre-wife and Mama stage of my life. There are many reasons you go see Steven. He is unbelievable at his craft. He is professional, and makes you feel like you are his only client while you are in his chair. I moved to California and had not been home in 8 years. I came home this past Mardi Gras. No lie, the first place I went after landing in NO, was to the Steven Sobel Salon of course! I haven't felt so pretty in a long time. So me and my hair have been adoring him for 23 years....if that's not a positive review, I don't know what is. Miss you Steven....you can always move to North Carolina just for me!
I tried to write this in the comment section of the previous review, but it was too lengthy - this was hard to write for me too since I have witnessed several incidents where Monique especially has been rude..... In saying that, THIS IS THE WORKINGS OF TWO VERY DISGRUNTLED EX-EMPLOYEES, Monique and Kristen. It is obvious this woman has no idea the dynamics of this salon. She unfortunately witnessed a rude episode yet again caused by Monique that in the end got these girls fired for good. Steven will continue to be at the top of his field and has deservedly won any kudos he gets (we don't pay for advertising). He has been business for over 30 YEARS - these girls are 22 - need I say more.If they wish to make it in this business, they need to respect their employers. I worry for whomever takes them on next....They are not as good as they think they are. VERY COCKY, RUDE GIRLS

After being in New Orleans for 3 years, I decided that it was time to find a hair salon here, rather than waiting to go back to my hometown for hair appointments. In the fall of 2009 I read an article about the Steven Sobel Salon and decided to make an appointment with Monique, and am SO glad that I found her!Monique cuts and colors my hair, and I can honestly say that my hair has never been cut and colored so well. Not only is she a great hair stylist, but an equally awesome person to be able to talk to while doing your hair. The salon is always nice to walk into and everyoen is bright and cheerful.

After relocating from Washington DC this past summer, I was convinced that I'd have to return there every six weeks to update my fabulous (albeit faux) rouge tresses. I was convinced that no-one could match, nor out do my color. That was before I met Steven and his amazingly talented staff!!!
Not only was my color updated to better suit my golden glow from the summer sun, but Steven updated my cut to be more fun...even adding bangs! I also updated my brows by adding tint to better match my new look--WOW--what a difference brow tinting can make!
Redheads unite and rejoice--this ginger highly recommends Steven Sobel Salon!!!

Shortly after I first moved to New Orleans in August of 2009, I realized that I could no longer justify the brown root growth from my blonde hair as being stylish, so I rushed to make an appointment anywhere I could get in. The result was disastrous! I had horizontal stripes across the side of my head from the foil lines. After rushing home and spending hours at the computer reading review after review of the various salons in New Orleans where I could get an immediate correction, it was made clear to me that Steven Sobel across the board had the best reviews. I made an appointment for the following day. When later I mentioned the appointment to a friend who had lived in New Orleans for a few years she said, ""I don't know a fake blonde who looks like a natural blonde that doesn't go to Steven Sobel,"" and I knew I had made the right decision.
Steven corrected my color PERFECTLY and I've been going back since. The whole staff is so friendly and fun to be around and their work is impeccable. I've had my hair done by both Steven and Eric (when I make appointments I just ask for whoever is available to fit my tight schedule because I trust them all!) and would highly recommend them both to anyone needing a cut or color.
The last time I went in, there was a promotion going on for a discount that I was unaware of, but Steven offered it to me anyway! Even if my loyalty to this salon were not already established, that would have certainly sealed the deal!
Great salon, great people, great products, great everything!

I have lived in several major cities throughout my twenties and have never been inspired by the so-called best hairstylists in each city (such as Chicago). I have very curly hair and am, unfortunately, risk-adverse. In other words, I have had the same long, layered (aka BORING) haircut for most of my life.
This all changed after my visit to Steven Sobel Salon! I found out about him through the article in Elle magazine recently, so I thought I'd take a chance. I walked into his salon, which was completely unassuming, and asked him to do something different with my long, boring curly hair. I hated being one of those girls who wanted something different but didn't have anything in particular in mind, but I was hoping for a miracle. And a miracle is what I got.
Steven was very patient and talked through my likes and dislikes until he had an excellent suggestion on a new style that played up my curls. I was scared by the change at first, especially when I saw him cut off nearly 9 inches of my hair...but I quickly came to love the new look. And everyone, including my husband, loves it too!
So, thanks to Steven, I have a sexy new look (and have even started to branch out a little more with my fashion). He is a wonderfully talented stylist, and I highly recommend that you visit him. I convinced my sister, who lives in Florida, to set up an appointment with him the next time she's in town.

I have been to Aveda (Paris Parker) a million times, also John Jay and any number of other salons in the city but Steven Sobel is the absolute best haircut I've ever gotten. I was completely sick of being treated like a second class citizen because I'm only twenty and apparently don't look like I have a credit card to my name so inevitably I'm treated rather shabbily at high-end salons. Not so at Steven's. Everyone was kind, i had the best wash of my life and being a little scared to chop of a good 6 inches of hair, was absolutely thrilled with the result. THRILLED. The price is right and the customer service is faultless. If you go anywhere else and they mess it up, make sure you go to Steven's to get it fixed and then next time don't make the mistake of going anywhere else.

I moved to New Orleans a year ago and this is the only salon I have ever been to. I am very picky and Steven does my highlights so that they look very natural.
I try to go during the weekdays when I know Midnight will be there. You'll have to go to figure out what I'm talking about.
Anyways, if you are looking for great cut, color & blowouts.. everyone there is great. Kristin does a phenomenal blow dry.. and Steven does great highlights!!

I can't believe I have not tried this salon yet. I've been in the area way too long to not to! I finally found a colorist (Steven) who actually listens AND delivers. What I wanted was simple enough, to look like a VS model. But seriously, when I left, my hair had that sunkissed look with beachy layers. I wanted the ends lighter and a gradual fade from the root, which I got, and I LOVE it!! This is as close to VS as I'm ever going to get! Thank you Steven!

Since moving to New Orleans four years ago from Massachusetts, I have placed all my hair-trust in this salon. I have been coloring my hair for almost ten years, and have grown to be picky about my blonde locks. Steven Sobel was the second salon that I have been to since being here, and I haven’t ever wanted to go anywhere else. That being said I have recommended the Salon to most of my friends, and we all have returned repeatedly to have our services done.
I am a student at Tulane, and need to get my hair done once every six weeks or so...very do-able at the salon.
The salon is very affordable for someone like me who’s a student for what you get when you walk out of the salon. Appointments are relatively available—usually if I have an event to go to within a day or two they will find someway to fit you in. They truly put the customer first. All the stylists are excellent in making sure that they have an exact picture of what you want, and will ask you specifics so that they can do their job efficiently.
The stylists and the owner make you feel very comfortable from the moment that you walk in the door to the moment that you leave. When one time I thought that my color hadn’t processed correctly, I wasn’t afraid to call and explain the situation because I knew that Steven would be concerned and make sure that the next time everything was perfect. I don’t have one specific stylist that works on me each time—I have found that the talent level of each one is high, and I trust each of them. They are also extremely personable! Out of all of the salons that I have tried both at home and here, I still would recommend SS as my top choice for a cut, color, or anything else you may need.

I started school at Tulane and was hoping to find a good salon nearby to cut my hair. I had no idea I would find it so close to campus though! I have been back to Steven Sobel's salon many times since and have never been disappointed with my cut.
My stylist, Rina, is very professional and does a great job with styling and cutting my hair. I love the friendly and casual atmosphere of the salon too, though it may be too small to fit in as many appointments as larger salons may be able to. I would say that the wait is worth it though, and have recommended many of my friends to go as well.
Another con may be that sometimes the phone will ring and one of the stylists will have to pause to answer it. But, even that isn't too distracting!
I'm unfamiliar with some of the more complicated functions of the salon, because I am a guy and only get a basic style and cut each time. But, I have friends that go to Steven's as well and they are always satisfied.
I am glad that I finally found a salon in New Orleans that is filled with professional, talented, and friendly stylists! Thank you!

Steven is amazing! I had long hair and wanted to keep it long but be healthy, he listened and did a perfect cut! Most places cut wayy too much off! I am a brunette and had never gotten highlights but wanted a highlighted subtle lighter look for the summer. He did a great job, not streaky at all and very natural and after he finished and I decided I wanted more done and I went back the following week and he did them free of charge. Steven is amazing and the rest of the staff couldnt be more lovely and professional. LOVED IT! THANK YOU STEVEN!

I can't say enough about how amazing Steven and his salon are. I went in not knowing what I really wanted for my cut or color and Steven was so patient and kind in explaining my options and what might be best for me. Getting my color done was so relaxing - Steven and his whole staff are so friendly and fun to talk to, I was comfortable immediately even though it was my first time there. Eric helped with the color and cut my hair - he gave me a cut that I couldn't have picked out better. I don't care how low he wears his pants or how many colors his hair is - I would always trust him to do my hair. And he made me laugh. A lot. I loved everything and everyone at this salon and am SO happy with my hair now and will not be going anywhere else or trusting anyone else to do my hair in NOLA.

I hadn't colored my hair in years when I came in. Eric does my hair and he's done everything that I asked and more--I'd suggest him to anyone. The whole staff is really great about being accommodating. The prices are much cheaper than a lot of places for the quality. It's on Maple, so it's close for anyone uptown. I would definitely advise anyone to check it out--the atmosphere is incredibly friendly, so not only do I leave with great hair but I have a great time as well!

I have had some very bad cuts and color from other salons. I had not been to a salon in about 4 years. But it was time to try one more time. SSSalon was the place to calm my nerves and hair. Monique and Steven helped me stay cool. I wanted a big change & we decided from blond to red would be the answer. A wild cut to match was perfect. My color is freaking beautiful. The red with blond highlights is just what I needed. The cut is wild and messy. Who couldn't love that. And if you want something more subtle they can do that too. Bottom line is, STEVEN SOBEL IS MY NEW PLACE. Thanks MONIQUE, STEVEN and BRANDI(for making me feel at home).
