A friend and I went here at 2:30 a.m. on 11/01. It wasn't crowded, but we decided to sit at the bar. We sat quietly, looking over our menus, for about 10 minutes. No staff had approached us at any point since we arrived, and we decided to try the place across the street instead. As we were walking out the door one of the waiters asked us if we were leaving. My friend, who is in the service industry, politely told him that we had been waiting a while and nobody had helped us. He apologized, we said no big deal, and we left. As it turns out, our ""plan B"" restaurant was closed, so we decided to give the St. Charles another chance. As soon as we walked in, an older man (short in height, grey hair, wearing a scally cap) approached us and told us we had to leave. We were a bit taken aback by this, and the only explanation he provided was that we had to leave because he doesn't want ""that kind of people"" in the restaurant. That's a direct quote, and i have no idea what he meant by it. We stood outside, dumbfounded, wondering what the hell just happened. After talking to some friends, I believe this person was probably the owner. This was, by far, the rudest, most disrespectful treatment I have ever received in any business establishment, dining or otherwise. If a bartender or server had approached us as quickly as the rude owner did, we would have never left in the first place.

I'm a local whom has never tried the St. Charles Tavern but decided it was good enough for my Christmas dinner since it was the only thing that was open in the area. I go in and wait. It's christmas day a little packed so i understandingly sat for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. I noticed that no one was interested in feeding the black woman at the counter simply for that reason. I am a young woman in america and like to think that I'm equal so I sat a total of 25 minutes because I tried to convince myself that it was some sort of mistake. But as I continued to sit, being ignored, I realized that the conclusion I so did not want was ultimately the case. I was shunned on Christmas Day because of the color of my skin!

NO question the WORST food I have EVER had in NOLA, or pretty much anywhere! I ordered hash and received a plateful of nondescript cubed potatoes along with sausage that tasted like it had been kept around WAY too long and some really dried out, OLD chicken. Topped off by slimy, undercooked fried eggs. I'd rather go hungry.

We've been there several times and have had varying experiences. Tuesday night all you can eat crabs and potatoes and hush puppies are good. We've done this several times, the seasoning is very good - the crabs are mostly ""skinny"" - I guess they get a good deal - no complaints. The place is a dump - but in a good way. Tuesday nights in crab season are usually packed and worth $10. Best meatball poboy around - so says my husband. I've only had the boiled crabs and I have no complaints. We've brought others on Tuesday nights and no complaints. I had a steak there one night and it wasn't steak night - so the steak was about $20 and was NOT a $20 steak - I said so to the waitress and they gave us a discount on the steak - which was acceptable to us.

Probably the worst place to eat in New Orleans. Don't let the location on St. Charles Ave fool you, this place is a dump. My boyfriend & I had to suffer in that place last Sunday night since it was the only thing around open at 11 pm that wasn't too far. My napkin stuck to the table, only 5 other people in there with two servers yet it took 8 minutes to get a soda. The bread from the po-boy was soggy by the time it got to the table, the fries were good but greasy and don't order cheese on anything because it's poor quality shredded cheese that did not even melt when on a burger. The plus is they did have boca burgers. My boyfriend went to the bathroom which said should have been used for a horror film, on the way down the narrow path to the evil darkness which was the broken bathroom he was almost smacked in the face by someone leaving the kitchen, since the door swings out without any kind of sign warning to watch out. The bathroom was broken, seat & toilet tank were broken & for some horrible reason people instead of not using the rest room just wiped then threw it out in the trash. He came right back out and almost threw up it smelt so bad, we left right after that. The final thing happened days later after that horrible meal, we get a bank statement back only to find that what was charged was not the $25.0 with tip we left but $61.20, someone else is table. We had to call and argue to get the money they over charged us back. This place was worse then a Denny's in Trenton
