Incorrect Prices and rude management

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, nor ever eat at it again.

Our server was friendly but slow. There were five of us eating, and we all were ready to order entrees before the waitress arrived to take our drink orders. Still, we were at Shimmy Shack for 2.5 hours. The food came out cold, 40 minutes after we ordered. yet no one complained. However, when we got our bills, we were shocked.

The waitress had misquoted prices. I asked if a certain beer was a domestic (because the menu said that domestics were about $3). At the end of my meal, she tells me that of course Rolling Rock is a domestic, but its a special domestic that is premium priced (really, 4.50 for a bottle of rolling rock?). Also, I ordered a side entree, the price on my tab significantly more ($3-4) than listed on the menu. When I showed her this, she refused to change my price by walking away and ignoring me. Another friend experienced a similar situation with his bill. However, another had prices that were randomly correct. It seemed that their pricing was arbitrarily and randomly matched to the menu. Finally, we found out as we were closing out that paying with a card adds an extra dollar to every bill. If this policy was posted anywhere in the restaurant, it was inconspicuous. I know that it was NOT posted anywhere on the menu.

Overall, I spent 18 dollars on two rolling rocks and a small order of cold french fries and was treated poorly by management. As I said, I have worked in restaurants, I know how rude customers can be. I went out of my way to be polite despite my frustration. We were still treated like our questions were ridiculous.
When I called the next day to speak to the manager, she told me that the waitress had indeed quoted me the wrong prices because she was new and inexperienced. She offered no apology, and told me it was my responsibility to make sure that the menu prices were correct (which was what I thought I had done by asking the server). She told me she would call me back later that day, which of course she did not ever intend to do.

I decided to never dine there again, nor let any of my friends do so.

Great Burgers and Ambiance

The Shimmy Shack is owned by the same guy who owns the Rivershack Tavern which is considered to be the best bar and live venue outside of Orleans Parish.
The bar/grill has a relaxed, mildly upscale feel that fits right in with the neighborhoods of River Ridge surrounding it.
I've only had the burger so far and it was good enough that I went back two days in a row because I enjoyed it so much. It was a half pound and had that soufght after naturally smoky flavor that brings to mind those classic burgers from Port o Call in the city.
The Bloody Mary is expertly mixed with a heavier dose of Worcestershire than usual which works really well with the hand mix they do.
They had a nice selction of Pinot Noirs y the glass and the waitress, who bears a stunning resemblance to the actress Catherine Keener, and she was a delight to deal with - friendly and very efficient.
And after only one visit, she already remembered the wines I had already tried and the way I preferred my drink mixed.
Large flat screens on the walls and a nice, uncrowded space make it ideal for game watching. And there is a large deck outside where, if the weather is right, tends to be quite crowded with couples and singles.
Rier Ridge has a really nice grouping of restaraunts and bars in the Dickory/Citrus/Hickory triangle and this one is worth stopping in on - they also have a very fast and strong signal free WiFi as well.

Good, but overpriced...

Nice little place. They mainly serve bar food. It's rarely crowded and they have a nice outdoor patio deck and bar. The staff is nice, and the service is good. It's just overpriced. The po-boys come in one size (8-inches). Most of the sandwiches are served with fries, which are seasoned with cajun seasoning. They charge 50 cents extra for to go orders, which I am not a huge fan of.

Slow Service and Bad Catfish

Very slow and poor service. The waitress could not describe what the special shack sauce served with the fried mushrooms tasted like when asked. My beer was empty 5 minutes before she noticed, and then I waited another 10 minutes for her to bring a new one. I had to ask twice for a glass of water with my meal. The catfish platter came without tartar sauce, which I then had to ask twice for before receiving. The breading on the catfish was thicker than the actual filet of fish. The fried mushrooms and outside seating were wonderful, however.
