As frequent visitors to NOLA, we were used to Joe cooking as head chef at another restaurant over on Royal Street, and we were delighted to see that he had opened up his own place over on St. Louis a few short blocks away in the French Quarter. So we tried it out and it was FANTASTIC! As we were seated, Joe & his wife (who was Hostess that day) came over to make menu recommendations, and they even took us on a tour of their wonderful restaurant.
It is in a very old (classic New Orleans) building and the upstairs bar that they use for events is amazing. Joe is a product of many generations of New Orleanians, and I tried out his manicotti - his grandmother's own recipe. My wife tried their gumbo, and a few other creole dishes that Joe prepared off the menu just for her. All dishes were well prepared and delicious. The price point was very economical for the quality and the great portion size.
Joe's also has one of the best Bloody Mary recipes around town, a real spicy treat! My personal favorite there.
I must admit, I haven't tried a steak there, like one reviewer has commented on here, but we've travelled back on a regular basis and are always glad to have a place like K-Joe's to go for a great meal.
You have to work pretty hard to find a bad meal in New Orleans. If you want a good steak, I recommend Morton's - that's their specialty. Want good Creole? K-Joe's. Want good Italian like Mama used to make? K-Joe's.
K-Joe's is one of the best Creole and Italian food places that we've been to in dozens of trips to NOLA, right up there with K-Paul's and Emeril's NOLA.
Also, if you just want to hang out at the bar for a cool drink and relax, it's a great place to stop while shopping. The staff there are warm and friendly.

We went to new Orleans to enjoy part of our vacation, on our last day we wanted to have a special Steak Dinner so we ran across this restaurant stating on their door they had a former celebrity chef, we never saw him and if he did cook our food he was probaly a chef in the state pen. The waiter(BRUCE) was attentive to our needs until he had a table of sixteen he did not ever come back to our table, sent other waiters to check on us. We had to return the steaks because they don't know the difference between a well cook steak and a rare., mash potatoes were cold and vegetables looked like they were drained out of their nutrients. Remember they have a celebrity chef, WHATEVER, the only time BRUCE did come to our table is after we had to ask someone to bring us our check. We always payback on their tips we gave him a 10 percent tip , he immediately came by to pick up the check as we were leaving we heard him tell his buddy's that all he got was a ten percent tip. Joe immediately spoke to the MGR and told him about the service he stated that do whatever you have to do .
PROS Beautiful restaurant
CONS Bruce needs to go, Manager needs customer service classes, high price food, really hire a celebrity chef, DO NOT EAT THERE SUPPORT UR street vendors on Bourbin street .
